Looks like Russia is getting worse and worse.
Sounds like it is time for a citizen's arrest of Michigan's governor.
Saw several big screens leaving Costco the other day and it was amazing to me. It wasn't basketball Americans buying them, either.
On a similar note, I wrestled for weeks with whether or not I should buy a new computer. Different case, though, because my current one is 13 years old and starting to have issues. It's also how I pay the bills doing contract work, so it's not a frivolous purchase, just totally fucked timing as I got laid off a month ago and have zero income.
It's also important to note that are NONE currently on the shelves at Costco (higher end desktops). Out of stock signs instead. If you read a bit further on this, nearly all the major manufacturers are fuxated because of what's going on with Covid and China manufacturing in general. The supply chain is broken. IT guys I know that had to supply computers en masse for everyone to work at home said their orders aren't being filled and have been given 6 month or more wait times. Their personal advice to me was if you can find what you need, get it NOW.
Considering that China produces so much of the world's consumer electronics, this makes absolute sense. South Korea, Indonesia, even Vietnam can step up their manufacturing game, but even they rely on Chinese components. There is definitely a ripple effect coming that most have no idea about.
Anyway, a new high-end Dell found on Amazon will be delivered tomorrow. I will be ready to go when the feces stops getting shoveled into the Corona Chan fan. I hated to spend the money right now, but for those like me that depend on a keyboard to make a living, you'd be wise to consider what I've said here carefully.
Where IS Antifa, these days? Hiding in their parents' basement, or under their rocks ?
I'm basically convinced that 90% of Antifa are apolitical and just wanted to beat up old people without getting arrested. They're sitting at home collecting their trump bux. They'll come out of their caves once the NEET money dries up. They're just opportunistic idiots.
Big agree here. don't have any opinions on a vaccine, but clearly governments and their big business chums are not going to miss the oportunity for a land grab.I'm sadly not seeing an outcome by the end of this where it's a net positive compared to how things were before. For example, if these exceptional lockdowns continue on much longer, small/family businesses will be almost entirely annihilated while some of the already gargantuan mega corps are actively thriving from this (namely Amazon). And even if some do fall, they'll just be bailed out like they have been every other time. No such luck for the already-on-death's-door mom and pop stores.
To say nothing of the very last remnants of this thing called "privacy" being swiftly eliminated worldwide as we speak. Get ready for China's social scoring bullshit to be a universal addition to daily life. Hell, I actively dread the very idea of a COVID vaccine because that gives them the extra excuse to do who knows what to track our very bodies everywhere we go (Mark of the Beast microchip anyone?). And they'd make sure everyone gets tagged by fearmongering the vaccine into law.
When this all started I was optimistic that the whole pandemic situation would get people to wake up and finally turn the tide against the absolute toilet swirl everything's been rapidly flushing down, but now it's clear that the programming was done just effectively enough by this point that people are staring 1984 directly in the face and opening their arms wide to give it a big bear hug.
I know I know, doomer posting but, this shit's been eating away at me for weeks now. I just don't have much hope left in the grand scheme of things...
IMO we need protections in place that state no one can prevent you from doing something if it has no measurable effects on anyone else. You couldn't say, dump toxic sludge in a swamp, but you could build a shed without jumping through hoops at city hall because some asshole calls in about an 8x10 box 20 feet from his property line. Unfortunately that asshole is the one more likely to run for council, and subsequently run for mayor and then MHA and then get appointed to cabinet or become Premier, so we're never going to get out from under his boot.
TERM LIMITS.
TERM FUCKING LIMITS
I know I am god damn autistic about it but we should have did it when we did it for the Presidency, we should have fucking done it from the start.
But just because we didn't doesn't mean we shouldn't now.
Ask yourself, if crazy aliens rained down pallets of cash and lightning bolts of death on your home town, seemingly at random ; would you study? would you work? No, you'd live one day at a time partying and spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave.
I mean I overall agree with you but its something like 0.2-0.6% lethal infection rate in all honesty, at least for the time period where its still "novel". So it is deadlier, at least for Year #0 sans herd immunity sans strain diversification worse than the flu.Big agree here. don't have any opinions on a vaccine, but clearly governments and their big business chums are not going to miss the oportunity for a land grab.
After the initial panic has gone, I'm really worried about what they'll bring in under the cover of "The New Normal" . Like, wtf, "New Normal" ? I've heard this phrase everytime I've mistakenly caught the TV news. Why should anything be different? The only thing I want to see different is better emergency pandemic planning and repatriation of key supply chains.
I've seen some planning of a promo campaign for a UK organisation, using the black and yellow colour scheme the UK gov is using, but hashtagging about "Make it all worthwhile" or "Make something good come from this" . Can't remember exactly, I'll see if I can get another look. It had sinister vibe to cynical me though.
They got the whole population running scared of what is now quite clearly just a fairly nasty virus with at most a 0.1% Case fatality rate. And that includes all the old, fat, unhealthy people who always die from this stuff. In response to this, people have happily had their businesses and normal lives destroyed, been locked in their houses for weeks, and seen government enact population control measures not seen since the war. The UK gov is selling this as a Dunkirk / Battle of Britain moment. "We were nearly wiped out, but all pulled together and made it through". Made it through what? Your own deliberate crashing of the economy? It's not airbourne EbolAids , it's about as dangerous as a bad seasonal flu. So who's buying this shit?
Never let a crisis go to waste.
Somebody I was listening to says we'll have to walk the line between loosing people and loosing livelihoods/ect. Neither will get away scot-free, but hopefully we can find a middle ground. That seems like good advice to me. Honestly, I tend to assume all politicians are power-hungry skunks, but I would not want to be in their shoes right now, having to handle all this and make the best of bad choices.I mean I overall agree with you but its something like 0.2-0.6% lethal infection rate in all honesty, at least for the time period where its still "novel". Once people start getting antibodies and new strains evolve/mutuate it will shrink.
It is worse than the flu (for now); but the question is: is it that much worse that it's worth destroying ourselves over?
IMHO its not.
Dude, it was my very first sentance:that assumes anyone getting welfare immediately turns into a couch potato wasting away a day at a time - which obviously isn't the case else welfare wouldn't work to begin with.
or to put it this way: #notallneets
CFR rates are still a big guess, because of the different testing regimes between countries and states. The asymptomatic and mild cases are still largely guesswork. The Spanish health care workers had 30 odd deaths and 30K postive tests, which is what I was thinking of, assuming that anyone with any symptoms got a test.I mean I overall agree with you but its something like 0.2-0.6% lethal infection rate in all honesty, at least for the time period where its still "novel". Okay, that's fair. I was referring to the studies from the UK (0.66%), Germany (0.37%) and California (0.17% & 0.25%) which tried to estimate/test for asymptomic/weak-symptomatic/undiagnosed carriers.CFR rates are still a big guess, because of the different testing regimes between countries and states. I was comparing the effect to a bad flu year, not a normal year. I was basing this on the excess deaths number seen in the UK, which I think compares roughly to bad years. Though I haven't checked this.
I maintain that excess deaths will be the key data point to analyse this across different areas when the dust has settled, unless we dig up and test every corpse...
I can't decide what's the most stupid. Internet leftists wanting to use the quarantine to accelerate a economic collapse. Or thinking they're going to win the ensuing conflict because a dozen of them wet their pants in Syria.

UK Daily:
1,023,824 Tested (+122,347)
177,454 Positive (+6,201)
27,510 Dead (+739)
Hancock's Fine Hour:
Despite "Experts" once again claiming the UK was unlikely to meet its 100,000 tests a day target, the UK's smashed it.
Even the BBC seems to be glad through gritted teeth for a change as it's well above the target set.
