The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Decided to go back and start reading the original Game Informer cover story for the original Last of Us to see what's now bitterly ironic.

For starters as soon as I saw Druckmann's name for the first time I heard sinister, evil music playing in my head, also evidently he got his start "designing menus for Jak X", go figure.

Here are some choice cuts.

"Naughty Dog neither wants to shy away from gore nor exploit it"

Yeah, you can say that again.
Oh shit I remember that issue. However like 60% of my old game informers it appears to have fallen into a void of no return
t I just realized that Abby looks like Human Shreck from the good shreck sequel

I think what has triggered people the most is how the game is going to force you to take control of an ostensible villain to fight and possibly kill the hero of the previous game. No doubt Naughty Dog thought they were being clever here. How subversive! This however violates a major tenet of story telling, particularly interactive story telling. You cannot force the viewer to identify with the villain over the hero. Especially after firmly establishing the two.

It would be like if in Return of the Jedi we barely got to see Luke and instead followed palpatine around until the throne room scene and the entire sequence was played out as if Palpatine was the hero all along. And then Palpatine kills luke with the Force Lightning while Vader clapped. People would have been very pissed. It's even worse in a video game as you will essentially force the player to harm or even kill a protagonist they identify as a quasi stand in for themselves.

That is emotional masochism. It's the kind of thing only a person who fundamentally does not understand human emotions would do. The fact that they do this using some poorly shoe horned in tranny is the icing on the cake, and shows yet again that the people who subscribe to this weird progressive cult either dont understand what it means to be human or else give it up as the cost to entry.
In my opinion, this is just Neil Druckmann following the phenomena of water cooler talk and forced shock value.
Taking examples from other Media like The Walking Dead, Game Of Thrones etc, most discussions are about „that scene“ or „that moment“, most of which involve graphic abuse.
Anybody who hasn’t consumed this media tends to feel the fear of missing out.
„Oh, you haven’t seen X yet? Oh boy, you should! It’s so good!“ is what I constantly hear when I mention to someone that I haven’t watched a single episode of GoT or stopped watching Walking Dead around the time Negan first showed up.
Most of the „best moments“ compilations involve either cliffhangers or shocking graphic scenes too. Hell, even reaction channels get most of their views on those episodes. Just type into google „reaction The Last Of Us“ or any lets play with a webcam, most of the views are either at the strong storytelling moments or at the beginning when Joels daughter dies.
My personal, autistic problem with the way Druckmann decided to chose the old protagonists fate is that he based it entirely on this water cooler talk concept/reaction channel bullshit.

Creepy Druckmann is not getting the reaction to his Social Justice Masterpiece he planned on:

I can imagine some heads are going to roll once sony thinks they've suitably damage controlled (even if that in reality means throwing more fuel to the fire and waiting for it to burn out). Naughty Dog screwed up the launch of the last big ps4 game, during a time when sony desperately needs playstation to pick up slack for the movie division, and caused a massive pr nightmare for sony and the playstation brand in particular months before the ps5 is supposedly launching still.

These leaks are disheartening to say the least, Naughty Dog was one of my favorite publishers but to see them fall, and produce woke garbage and silent their critics, and treat their employees like shit is a tragic trainwreck. I didn't mind if the sequel was more Ellie focused, I don't care if she's a lesbian, I just hate that now I have to kill Joel and play half of the game as said killer, who may or not be a tranny who also beats up Ellie at the end.

Watching this with it in mind that there's a good group of people with Ellie as their unironic waifu has me in stitches.
You know what’s even better? I personally know two individuals who named their children Ellie and Joel. As if giving your german children American names and basing those on a video game wasn’t autistic enough, I can’t wait for them to play the sequel. My sides.

Overrated interactive movie gets shit sequel.
My heart bleeds for ND.

It's a reflection of 2013 versus 2020.

In 2013 most people still had some goodness in their hearts, these last 7 years have sucked a lot of that out and a lot of people are full on evil now.

It's actually kind of eerie that in The Last of Us 2013 was supposed to be the year of the start of a dystopian situation for the world and in a way the game was right.

What is it with you and 2013?
You keep bringing that year up over and over as if it was the last time you were happy.

cod stories get a lot of shit, but most of them are actually pretty solid where matters. still salty IW bombed, it deserved better.
I was thinking about this the other day. The WWII game that came out recently handled the story in what I considered a 'tasteful' way and didn't beat you over the head with stuff. I usually don't care about the characters in an fps campaign but I actually found myself feeling they had more character than some story focused games.

One the topic of TLOU I thought the first game was just 'meh.' The first one wasn't terrible but to me it was just a decent story so I never got the 'greatest story ever told' hype a lot of people gave it. My biggest take away from this whole thing is how far the games industry is removed from making games at this point. I was a kid playing Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and it was the first game where I pretty much knew it by heart. If someone told me to name the first fun game that comes to my mind it would've been either a Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank game, and might still be to this day.

What in the hell happened? Where is the fun Naughty Dog?

To be fair, 2013 was pretty much the last year before western pop culture was entirely consoomed by dumb SJW shit and media goons in every industry had decided en-masse to become hyper aggressive puritanical scolds over shit they were happily guffawing over mere weeks prior.

Dont believe me? Look at this drooling retard from back at the very beginning of 2014 and how little he knew of what was soon to come...
