The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Reminder that Neil warned everyone about this 3 years ago. We should've listened him back then.

Someone should tell this retard that there's a difference between "personal politics" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean) and ones own personal fetishes. He hasn't been writing for very long if he thinks that.

Apparently Fallon Fox volunteered to do the mocap for free.

Also, it seems that even though ND staff watched a bunch of snuff films, they can't seem to comprehend that a small woman having her face worked on by a creature with muscles that big would probably knock out a bunch of teeth, if not accidentally break her neck from the force of their blows. Maybe I'm wrong though; I don't make a living off beating up women.

Looking on the footage, I have two questions to ask:

1. Do we know when Abby gets shots in the stomach and head? Is there any possibility that it is an end sequence where players can be satisfied in killing off a psycho bitch? Or is there scar details on the character model to show they miraculously recovered from a gunshot to the head?

2. Is there any footage around of someone attempting to just peacefully circumvent the Fireflies at the end of the game, in particular this creature's Dad? If not, could some former TLoU sycophant please replay that part and record it? Got a feeling that detail might be important when saying I have no sympathy for Abby or her dead NPC dad.
1) So that death sequence of Abby is when you play as her in a boss fight against Ellie (similar to the boss fight between Ellie and David in the first game), Abby is unarmed and Ellie is armed. The death scene is merely you getting caught by Ellie and she kills you.

2) Man I'm so sad, just seeing where this franchise is going... Mainly because of this scene in the first game. When I busted into that room and saw Ellie laying there with these creepy surgeons who were about to cut her open without her consent, I blasted all 3 of them without even thinking. I didn't care that they were whimpering. Later on I found out that the only person you have to kill is Abby's dad and you can leave the other two unharmed. But just the fact that Naughty Dog got me to kill them made me realize how invested I was.

Someone should tell this exceptional individual that there's a difference between "personal politics" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean) and ones own personal fetishes. He hasn't been writing for very long if he thinks that.
I know I'm beating a dead horse but everyone keeps mentioning J.R.R Tolkien and LOTR. We all know he was a Catholic and this can be seen throughout the books, but if you didn't know about his personal life you would just think it was commentary on good vs evil.

There's a similar moment in Spec Ops where the game works you up so badly that mowing down a horde of Iraqi civilians is second nature, and done in an organic manner - the difference is there are other ways to resolve the situation that don't force you into murder lest you be killed.

The phosphorous scene sticks out, but this part of the game always struck a chord with me.

The whole circumstances of this leak explains why they and Naughty Dog can FRO, frankly.

You may not remember this but in 2014 someone leaked a whole mess of Witcher 3 development documents including quest and enemy details, a full rundown of at least one of the main quests, the map of Ard Skellig, and also the three main endings. I downloaded them and paged through it, and came away feeling even more charged up for the game to come out. CDPR's response was not to have an inquisition into stomping the leaks off the web, but simply to ask nicely that people not spoil it for others. The fact that they had quality content already in place made them come over better than before. This... is different. That Sony are trying to stomp every reference to it off the web and sue people for spoiling it implies that they are embarrassed by the fact that this is what they have to show for it all.

You know what, here's how I would have done the story with fungus, monsters, transexuals, and cultists

Make the cultists troons

View attachment 1266449

Seriously you have a real rogues gallery of what to base enemies off of. I want some unsettling creepy troon motherfuckers. Since society has collapsed nobody can afford things like advanced medical drugs or razors. You now have a bunch of fanatics obsessed with vanity similar to how Bioshock's enemies went from normal people to freaks of nature trying to improve themselves. So these troon motherfuckers still want to be women because since society has collapsed they can now remake it in the image of a woman. So lo and behold the zombie fungus is viewed by them to be a way to complete their transformation and take their withered men bodies and turn them into beautiful forest nymphs who are one with nature. But they fuck up and the few who became zombies lose their minds and other shit so the troon cult leader wants ellie so they can try to have all of the positives of becoming fungus people but without the negatives, basically trying to make a female super solider of the mushroom kingdom and becoming princess Toadstool queen of the new humanity because fungus reproduces asexually so gender will be erased. So they make ellie out to be some sort of messiah and proof that men must be erased and the Troon leader wants to control her as leverage for the cult.

So not only will you have creepy looking and memorable scary bad guys, it would tie into all the elements of the previous game but it will give it a new twist. You now have a bunch of selfish motherfuckers obsessed with vanity and who want Ellie to give them something real shallow in a world where far more serious needs must be met. it's about as good a starting point as any to give everyone involved a drive that will last towards the end. not only that but some good ass body horror and disfigurement.

A shipment of Chinese Horsepiss was contaminated with a weakened strain of the cordyceps fungus, which put the troons' immune system on high alert, so none of the trannies in a city/area turned, only got a partial infection. With "proof" being a tranny is the only way to survive, the cult is 100% tranny - converting otherwise sane people as they see that the trooned-out leaders get bit and don't get infected - and believe that only way the plague stops is by killing all the normies, something that has become extremely pressing as their supply of tittyskittles runs low, and its very clear simply putting on a dress and uptalking isn't enough to keep the fungus from making you homocidal.

Doing that is proof that they know this will get destroyed by fans and casuals, as in they actually know that the game that they wasted years on due to Druckmann kicking a woman out of the industry is a pile of flaming shit that no one will like. But rather than just take the fucking loss and redo it, they'd prefer to try and grift you the potential customer by lying blatantly with its marketing beyond some woke bragging. Abby was not in any ads; Joel was not known to be killed brutally. It was all Ellie in everything.

This is the desperation of a grifter whose scam got exposed. Druckmann is already giving screeches of defeat that hacks do to try and guilt you into buying it. "DON'T AGREE WITH MY SHITTY POST MODERN GARBAGE THAT IS STUPID FUCK OFF REEEE~" is just a scream of defeat, and he can't sugar coat that. No one beyond corporate shills is falling for that shit. Not after the several times this happened already.

Naughty Dog is fucked.

This thread is moving at the speed of light and I'm like 15 pages behind now. Plus, it's looking like the firestorm is only just starting with the DMCA meltdowns and Sony investigation.

Also:
>Null gets a DMCA from Sony over the game leaks and promptly blows it the fuck out.

>Secret Asshole has entered the thread.

I'm going to need to get some booze/cigarettes because this thread has just entered prime time.

Ramble, ramble, ramble.

You know, these claims would actually be fine... if the people peddling this message could write stuff worth shit.

As much as Burch is a fucking moron, he almost almost had a valid thought and then pinwheeled off into the usual hyperbole of pushing the idiotic agenda that they think needs pushing but most don't give a shit about. Namely that you should be able to randomly pick a few characters are gay and reveal that via dialogue.

You should be talented enough to write it so not only does nobody really give a shit, but that it still feels natural at the end of it.

The problem is, writers who can do this? Likely don't exist with the shit taught in universities these days, or if they are out there they're not going to fucking bother with video games.

So instead we get people like Burch and Drekmann who when you place their works next to say, Henning who as others have noted themselves isn't the greatest, but she's a fucking Bronte Sister compared to those two heavy handed chuckle fucks.

The other issue is it's a poor, poor shield against critique generally and as said, is used to just pounce a mob on because it's the first! It's got to be people complaining about X and not Y!

But we're not, we're all shocked and appalled by this awful writing and genuinely hackneyed tropes in a world that had a lot of interest and potential.

They're probably too far gone to redo anything. With Corona-chan delaying the release date indefinitely and with the amount of work already put in because nobody has told the management that they are doing it wrong, given that Druckmann probably defenestrated said woman for telling him that he was doing it wrong, he's probably surrounded by yes-men and brown-nosers and with the amount of payola Sony throws at the access media they think they can get away with it.

Reminds me of an incident about 20-25 years ago. A lauded and well regarded game developer was going to produce a hugely revolutionary game with no expense spared. He set up his own company with the ethos that design is everything and there are no obstacles and with a compliant and well-payola'd media on his side. The game was delayed multiple times, but it's okay, when it comes out it'll blow your mind. Then, when the game does finally materialise, it's a mess. A horribly, muddy mess of bad ideas executed badly, a plot that makes no sense, and fundamentally broken features.

That game was, of course, Daikatana.

When I read this thread, I can't help but see full-page ads proclaiming "Nathan Druckmann's about to make you his bitch."

I'm afraid I have to agree that it's too late to save this game, from what little I know about design and building games.

I had a initial thought that the game was near a respectable (i.e. a good story,) completion before sarkeesian or a SJW got into the mix, and they did a stat revamp to put things...like this.

At least in my mind, it would explain the high turnover rate at the studio, and the rumors of soul-crushing crunch, as the team worked on something that was not what they signed on for.

I keep thinking of Captain Kirk in Star Trek VI: "Let them die!"

They made the bed, now let them lie and die in it.

You know, i really don't get why Sony themselves are claiming the leak is from someone outside the Companies (Sony and Naughty Dog). It makes no damn sense. The leaked footage is clearly from a dev build of the game, complete with the developer console and everything and doing things that only a developer could do, like moving the camera to unreachable areas and making characters invisible.

localization, depending how it's handled. for example german is on average 30% longer than english, so you need to check if/where it possibly breaks stuff, and not just visually. like an umlaut crashing the game because the font you use has no letter for it and other fun stuff.

Even if it was true, their opsec is so bad that they allowed a developer build of their entire game to leak to someone outside the company, which is the type of incompetence people get fired and sued for. Its also utterly implausible that someone "outside of the company" would get their hands on something like this

shortcuts aren't uncommon, and that was long before corona forced everyone to work from home turning security into a nightmare. given the crunch ND devs apparently are under it's hardly surprising, on top of security hardly ever being at the top of the priority list (since it isn't something managers see a lot of value spending money on and other things deemed more important, like hitting a deadline no matter what - till shit happens).

ME 3 wasn't as bad or disrespectful as this and it still cratered into the dirt. And that was basically just the ending, not the entire game. Even Bioware was killed by it. You just can't survive this damage. No game that's ever done this has. And people are still salty over ME 3 to this day. Imagine that times a thousand. How do you survive this creative abortion? I simply think its impossible. Especially with Druckman and Sony leading the charge, masters of competence that they are.

me3 being shit starts right in the beginning and stays there except for some high points. it also didn't kill bioware, it killed mass effect. bioware went on to make dragon age inquisition (which apparently sold well enough to get a sequel) and anthem. andromeda was never a real bioware game, the studio just got named bioware beforehand for marketing (which EA does a lot) because EA wanted to see if they can still squeeze some money out of the IP (hence the "reboot but not really we're just somewhere else lawl"), and for all the memes people still bought it after 3. the final nail in the coffin was that it was also shit. in any other case we probably would be laughing about the sequel now.

ND will probably survive in some form since the name itself still has market value, and most won't remember this current drama anyway when their next game comes out 2026 with a big enough marketing budget. however I don't expect to see a TLOU3 or certain people working there in the future.

Oh you don't get it. I know the game's dead. But much like RE 1.5 or RE: Gaiden back in the day... fucking end it. Utterly nuke the project and start over.

You aren't going to be able to use that IP again if you release it with this shit in it, god no it'd just be Andromeda again, so it'd be a longer term money saver than the short term "Release pile of shit that kills IP" that gets you the trickle.

At this point, nuking it would be a death sentence. This game's been in development for fucking years. This thread started about 3 and a half years ago, and development likely started well before that. And given the game's fidelity and the fact they hired Hollywood animators to assist, a metric fuckton of money was put into this over the course of years. I don't doubt that Sony's already sunk millions and millions into this with how expensive video games have gotten, and trashing it to start all over at the eleventh hour would be crushing.

So either they nuke it and all that time and money goes down the shitter or the game releases and loses money and prestige after bad word of mouth spreads. It's a lose-lose situation.

Sunk cost. They were going to lose millions anyway the moment word of mouth was out; ME3 fucking proved that and that was just the ending that dick punched the audience. They just hoped it would last long enough that it'd even out and it's look good for this quarter. But in this case with the leaks out as it is?

It hurts a lot more short term, but fucking end it. It saves the IP from destruction and means you could potentially make more games down the line in this franchise since it wouldn't be demolished and apathy and hate don't set in. With this fucker, you ain't getting that; you get a short term blunted pit that will never really be fixed.

they won't nuke it, they'll release it and it will massively underperform (which given what we know would've anyway). like I said before sony was probably blindsided how bad it really is which caused all this corporate level damage control.
another thing that might be an indication how hard that shit blew up is that the damage control doesn't feel like sony commifornia, but straight out of the japanese HQ. nip corps are notoriously bad at grasping how the internet and the western online world works, in large part due them basing it on how it works in japan, their influence on ISPs and the law being on their side. just look up how they handle piracy.

Six years.

Initial development began in 2014 with the mad dash beginning in 2017 after The Lost Legacy wrapped up. Meaning some members of staff had been working near flat out for three years solid as Lost Legacy was a genuine rush job, starting development in 2016 and wrapping by about June 2017, an insanely short development window.

This is compounded by the game getting delayed from its initial september 2019 release, and they just kept the crunch going for well over six months, which is horrifying.

I got an idea. Maybe this is radical or something, but maybe companies should actually deliver products people want, instead of deliberately pissing in their face.

I remember when spoilers were bad because they ruined your experience of the actual movie or game or whatever.

Now apparently spoilers are bad because they reveal the movie or game or whatever is absolute trash you don't want to buy.
