Diseased Shippers, Anti-Shippers, and Shipping Wars - When fictional characters fucking each other is a political statement

I'm kind of glad that a lot of these more annoying shippers only cling to the most popular shows, meaning that they largely pass up on any mecha shows. Most of them already feature a lot of either intentional or unintentional homoerotic undertones so there's a lot of shipping that goes on, but never to the same annoying level as shippers from shows like Yuri on Ice or MHA. There are still cases depending on the show but I find it a lot tamer.

I also don't know if it turned out to just be rumors, but the shipping drama around the development of Gundam SEED is an interesting situation that sometimes gets brought up on /m/. Rumor has it that Fukuda (Series Director) was originally going to put Kira and Cagalli together but his wife (Script writer) liked Lacus a lot more, forcing the change to Kira and Lacus. This kind of makes sense for people that watched the series given how close their chemistry was, seeming like it was building to them getting together, until the entirely random reveal that Kira and Cagalli are technically siblings with the forced second ship quickly following. It sucks because Lacus is just really boring compared to Cagalli because she's way too "perfect" which might have been due to her being the favorite of the wife. Hell, she might have even been her self-insert.

All this drama isn't even going into what might have happened during Gundam SEED Destiny between Fukuda's wife and Cagalli's VA where the former decided to entirely butcher the latters character in show because of behind the scenes drama. I don't know if it was a carry over from SEED but the two of them didn't seem to get along, so much so that Cagalli's VA refused to work on later projects with the two or voice Cagalli again until they weren't involved. Destiny also suffered from the amount of focus that Kira and Lacus got rather than any of the newer characters, the reason maybe being that those two were the preferred ship of Fukuda and his wife. Shin's character might have also suffered due to his VA standing up for Cagalli's VA behind the scenes.

I wonder how much of these rumors are true, considering how GSEED/Seed Destiny fandom was infamous for making up at least one whole fake "translated interview" that oh so coincidentally made the scriptwriter (Chiaki Morosawa) look like a hideously stupid and tyrannical bitch without any redeeming qualities. The Western fandom's hateboner for that lady was so big that not only they came up with fake interviews, they even made fun of her when it was revealed that she had cancer throughout the whole GDS production (and often said that it was a sort-of punishment for "destroying the Gundam series"), and CHEERED when she passed away.

What IS true is that there WAS a mess behind the scenes. Fukuda has been confirmed to have been pretty demanding and even bitchy at times to several seiyuu, especially Lacus' VA Rie Tanaka who said that Lacus was a very hard role for her. It's also known that the GSDestiny plot had lots of problems because Morosawa was perpetually late with scripts due to already having the cancer that ultimately killed her. And last but not least, the whole "Lacus and Kira steal the show" stuff was because Kira and Lacus were FAR more popular than the main character Shinn and Co. in Japan so stuff was written around to make them return to action, not necessarily because Fukuda and Morosawa wanted to make them their Mary Sues. So there WAS trouble, but not necessarily the kind that the GSeed fandom says it happened.

I'd take these rumors with a grain of salt, then. As you can see the GSEED/Destiny series had huge messes attached to them, but it's not unlikely that butthurt Cagalli fans either invented shit about Morosawa as some kind of autistic "revenge" for Cagalli's lack of screentime, or twisted whatever actually happened between her and Naomi Shindo (Cagalli's seiyuu) - again, maybe as an autistic "revenge" against "that Morosawa whore".

I haven't watched SEED so I didn't check the spoilers, but what the fuck? They slandered this woman and were happy she died from cancer all because they didn't get the ship they wanted? :stress: What a bunch of psychopaths, this fandom is just filled with them, isn't it? And I thought SEED was considered one of the weaker Gundam entries.

It wasn't necessarily just because of shipping, but it WAS a factor. Cagalli had a boyfriend named Athrun (alias Kira''s best friend, Lacus' once boyfriend, and the archetypical "sympathetic antagonist who turns a new leaf and becomes a hero " kind of chara); the Athrun/Cagalli fans were absolutely terrifying in their loathing of both Morosawa and Fukuda for breaking them up (in a pretty stupid manner plot wise, but still) and they also absolutely hated ANY girl who ever dared look at Athrun or crush on him in-story.

But yeah, I saw shippers and non-shippers being utter bitches to a woman with cancer for not writing a series the way they wanted and seemingly being bitchy to others. One can criticize such things without doing... THAT.

I mean, I heard them off /m/ over the years without much proof so the validity of the rumors were already quite low. Probably the actual drama that went on with Destiny will never fully come out because there are so many conflicting rumors. It just seemed like a mess of a production not just limited to Morosawa's cancer, might have had sunrise also sticking its fingers in for the sake of increasing gunpla sales or forcing production to include the old cast due to popularity. Like Kira constantly topped Newtype polls for most popular guy for who knows how long.

Think it was more to do with how bad Destiny turned out and fans wanted to slap the blame onto someone, it didn't help that she was already targeted by so many rumors that gave a negative impression of her. If you disregard those rumors, honestly I'd put more fault with Fukuda since he seems to have more confirmed drama around him. That just the reason for her hatred among normal fans, shippers probably do hate her for "ruining" their ships.

Really, the only good thing that seems to have come out of Destiny production is the really cute story surrounding Shinn's VA (Kenichi Suzumura) and Lunamaria's VA (Maaya Sakamoto) of how they first meet during the show. Married in 2011 and have been together since, one of those cases where the seiyuu fans for both were very supportive of them getting married rather then getting nasty about it.

While SEED might be seen as weaker it had massive popularity because for many it was their first entry into Gundam, at least it was for me. It's also massively popular in Japan, enough that it got a remastered release for its anniversary and the tease that production had moved ahead for the SEED movie that stalled after the death of Morosawa. Depending on the quality of the script she left behind, since she said it was completed, I'm hoping they make use of it still.

thanks to Volton thread I officially found a thing worse than Sherlock fandom. Choose your fighter

If you think about it, Seith is just Johnlock 2.0. in terms of how delusion their fandoms are. You know, with the fandom hating the final season of its respective show because of "qweerbaitin", accussing the writters of being nasty homophobes ("after everything the fans did for them") and going to the point of no return by thinking that there was a secret episode/script that made their ship canon.

It’s queer baiting because its not their ship.

Even though, you know, Shiro actually kissed and married another man on screen.

"But that man doesn't count, that wedding was HOMOPHOBIC and MADE ONLY TO CATER TO KLANTIS!!! AND TO STRAIGHT FANS!! wahahahahahaaaaahhhhh!!!"
Which is hilarious, because if anything Klance was shot down just as hard as Sheith was. After all, former flirt Lance swore that he'd stay in love forever with Allura and wouldn't say that if he didn't mean it. . .

Still, rabid Sheith fans turned out to be among the worst in the already bad VLD fandom. They kissed ass endlessly and arrogantly assumed that it'd bring them The Ship on a platter, and when they didn't get The Ship handed to them they became as bad as the same rabid Klancers that they screeched against.

I love when FE fan morons try to claim (with either biased AF “translations” or zero actual proof) that the canon bi girl is nothing but "a lesbian with comphet". Anything to keep the Designated Lesbian Queen away from the ~impure cocks~ that soil and taint her, huh?

Hahaha the former. The author's self-aware about it and tells stories of her husband (lovingly) teasing her about writing Godzilla porn. Honestly, anthropomorphic kaiju freak me out (though I've seen some interesting designs on Tumblr), but even though it's not a human!kaiju series, it's still weird for these readers to be so fixated on kaiju sex that they bring it up a lot when it's only shown in its entiretyyyyy I want to say 10-15% of the entire story, foreplay included. It's pretty scant for a mainly-M-rated series.

Really, it's just sad for people to get into fights over fan fiction. I'd actually see this happen in Pokémon from time to time, and of course A:TLA is infamous for fan fiction ship wars, but I never thought I'd see it in the kaiju fandom. It makes me disappointed in humanity, but I can't stop looking, I find it strangely entertaining.
Well I hope it's as graphic as your avatar. Cause any more, and no amount of angst will make me not cringe.

Ha, it's not like it ever describes anyone's genitals (Rodan's blood is actually magma btw, so enjoy those implications hahaha). I walked into this series to pass the time and test the waters, not once did I expect there'd be bursts of anonymous "review" slapfights over whether Mothra should continue fucking Rodan or not, and I can't stop looking.

So Trigger made a show about animal people called Brand new animal which ended now and this individual is very salty that the Tanuki girl and the Fox girl did not smooch. Mind you, in canon there was no implication that they were anything but friends, but you know how it goes.

Apparently there was also shipping drama towards people who wanted the Tanuki girl and the Wolf man to hook up cause of the age gap but I haven't actually seen any juicy drama of it myself.

They also like to say Ingrid is a "repressed lesbian" for rejecting Dorothea's incel-like advance of "you're so pretty I couldn't blame someone for wanting to fuck you without your permission, I would ask permission though haha" so it's crystal clear where their priorities lie.

How starved for companionship does one have to be to get to the point where you consider it a personal offense that not every friendship between two anime girls turns into a romance?

I've seen them call Ingrid a bitch and an homophobe for that, though. She doesn't like being flirted on by ANYONE, though; when Sylvain tries it in the Blue Lions trailer, she punches him away for that. It just means she's not that focused on the flirty side of romance in general and it wouldn't change if she was bi, a lesbian, or anything else.

(Dorothea does she she'd ask permission and since the support is finished when Ingrid says "LOL NOPE", I guesses she backs off and decides to find someone more receptive. An incel or a lesbincel would be far worse. :/a )

So rejecting a pretty girl's advances means you're a homophobe, a bitch, or repressed. Very healthy way of thinking these people got going on. Makes you wonder about their interpersonal interactions.

And yeah, you got a point, at least their supports end there. Not that the fans were happy about that. Every lesbicel FE fan I've met adores Dorothea and I've seen plenty of wishes for an A-support between her and Ingrid. After all, backing off from a girl who rejects your (sudden and fairly creepy) advances is just not Nice Gal™ way.

I love Dorothea, I ship her with some girls (namely F!Byleth, Manuela and Edelgard), and I hate, hate, HATE what so many "fans" do to her. Fucking sick of them downplaying her canon bisexuality to try shoving her into the "man-hating lesbian who only wants men's wallets and would use just use them to get all the gold she wants" corner where she does NOT belong. She doesn't flirt solely to get money, she wants a companion who won't toss her aside when age makes her voice and her beauty fade! And yet her supposed "fans" focus only on using her as a self-insert to project their creepy view of the women who for one or another reason won't date them.

With fans like these, Dorothea Arnault needs no haters. (:_(

Isn’t there a canon lesbian in FE that’s already like that? Heather?

why don’t they go stan her instead???

Probably because she's from the Tellius games, which are too old for them. But even in the oldschool days I saw people focusing more on how GAAAAAAY Soren was for Ike than on a canon lesbian like Heather. @Daisy may be able to tell you more, tho.

Actually, the only time most of the fandom cared about Heather was when they made all kinds of arguments about how she COULD totally be straight and how her lesbianism was caused by trauma brought on by daddy issues and how clearly the one to cure her of liking vagina was, of all people, goddamn Volke. Whom she never even talks to.

Any yuri fans were more concerned with bashing Boyd to prop up Jill/Mist or shlicking to Elincia/Lucia. Which to be fair was pretty damn subtexty, but like I said above Geoffrey/Elincia was more or less canon and Lucia could also bang Bastian, who had a crush on her.
