So I'm waiting for shit to shit the fan in the housing market in the next few weeks.

10 homes on my street have had a primary breadwinner laid off in the last week. People in office jobs who businesses are downsizing or just cutting their workforce. Their kids were mostly retail workers who got hit weeks ago.

The morgage branch workers at banks have to be on suicide watch right now.

I know things are ready to pop off in our neighborhood because the HOA is straight up panicked about property values now and being quite open about it -- our lawn sucks ass and needs re-sodding, and they mailed us a letter to that effect, but there was no mention of kung flu or any hint they were willing to entertain any delays or excuses in getting it done.

In our eight years here the only time the HOA ever worries about property values is when several properties go up for sale all at once and the sellers start bitching at them over every little flaw they can find throughout the neighborhood that might lower the sale price.

I've told the landscaping company we hired to be sure to take their time waiting for the old lawn to die off before they drag it off. Sure hope a solid dead-brown lawn doesn't put off any would-be buyers for my neighbors or anything. Would be a real shame, that. HOA can't complain either -- "we hired a company when we got your letter and they've already started, what more do you want?"

R0 is the number of people infected by each person. If it is below 1 the number of infected will drop with time and if it is above 1 it increase. Well look at this graph. The number of infected to me looks like it is falling, though not very fast. This implies an R0 below but close to 1. And that's with lockdown that most people regard as unsustainable.

Greece has extended the lockdown in migrant camps to the 21st of May. The dense population in camps means the virus would spread rapidly if it infected them.

Cases linked to night clubs in South Korea. He is not worried because South Korea does Test/Trace/Isolate.

It's almost like the Taiwanese and South Korean approach of TTI at the border and inside the country works and the UK one of leaving the borders open and locking down everyone doesn't.

Paris has found someone had COVID on the 27th December by antigen testing sampes. Same with Spain and Italy, probably in the UK too. Paris case infected between the 14th and 22nd December, wife worked at Charles De Gaulle airport and was possibly infected by someone there.

The UK is lifting lockdown restrictions, he predicts cases will rise but not enough to force a rollback. He says cases in Germany are going up, but not by much. Can't see it here

And that's why I'll never get this monofamily home bullshit. Everything's too damned far, you need to take care of a fucking garden, you have *stairs* on your own home. The trick is to never be openly hostile but always call out the stupid shit they say in the nicest way possible (and never directly respond to their threats -- that gets them hard and I relish denying them that pleasure). It absolutely boils their blood and there's fuck all they can do about it.

The worst thing about HOAs isn't necessarily the HOA organization itself. It's the shit neighbors who narc on you for various meaningless bullshit that feeds the HOA the vital nutrients it needs to thrive. Like I said in my previous post, I'm sure the latest "fix your lawn or we'll sue you" letter is a direct result of our next door neighbor's landlord wanting to sell their property and having a weed-infested lawn next door is probably attracting some low-ball offers.
