"Post your Art" Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I was browsing my deviantART and I found one of my old pictures that I had been very proud of (and still am tbh).

It was before I had (somewhat, tbh) mastered hands, so there are a few things that I'd go back and redo, but overall I'm still pretty proud of it.

Relatively old art, but I finally mustered the courage to post it here, so woohoo! :story:
Made some silly designs of the cyberbullying sites quadfecta (GuruGossip, PULL, lolcow.farm and Kiwifarms) and wanted to draw them interacting, a la ye olde social media gijinka designs. I like to think of them meeting up and discussing their favorite lolcows.

I assume the last 2 are newer than the first couple? I can see a pretty significant improvement in the line art and anatomy between them.

My one tip for you is to start using different hues for shadows instead of just a darker shade of the same hue. I thought the drawings of Rei and Asuka were completely unshaded until I took a closer look. I’m not too great with color theory myself so I can’t give too much specific advice off the top of my head, but just as a simple example I’d make the shading on her dress a shade of orange instead of a darker shade of yellow.

All of them were within a week of each other. The first few were some quick doodles I did in a more simple style, I spent like 30 minutes max on each. I agree that the shading could've been a bit darker, it is kinda hard to see if you don't look closely. I'll be sure to keep color theory in mind and study it some more, especially for more elaborate drawings. In the meantime, please enjoy the finished version of the last image I posted

I recreated an alien chick from a Simon Bisley painting. She's polymer clay with wires stuck in, there's a few wires inside her for stability since she came dangerously close to breaking in a few places and it was terrible and I almost cried. Polymer clay is hard u guise

I've been drawing catgirls for most of this year because art block + stress has killed me. Does anyone have tips as to how I can get back to normality?
To find your new normal, you'll want to exercise your willpower and develop the skill to work on art whether you have motivation or not. This is a critical skill I think all people who want to achieve any high skill level at an artform should develop. A habit like that might take you 90 days of making art for at least 15 minutes a day. When a daily habit like that is developed, you feel wrong if you don't work on art daily.

1) Find yourself drawing exercises to warm up with that also improve your draftsmanship.
I love https://drawabox.com/

2) Identify your weakest art skills
Focus on the fundamentals of art. What are the fundamentals?

3) Stay engaged with your artistic journey by consuming content related to skills you'd like to obtain and keep obtaining new levels of skill

I firmly believe that every artist will benefit from a formal art education. Even if what I linked isn't the style you want to draw in, you need to understand that all great representative artists to some degree followed the formal art education path and built a foundation of skills on which they could develop their own styles. I hope this helps.
