My guess is they probably find him through various compilations of his many gaffs and failures over the years (I didn't even really hear about him till Down The Rabbit Hole did an episode on him) then proceed to watch him ironically but find some kinship with a loud angry tard and get settled into the community surrounding him and before you know it they are throwing $500 a stream at him because their mental illness compels them to vote for the underdog.
Obviously the bankruptcy ending was a bit anticlimactic, but when you think about it in the larger arc that is Phil, it was never going to be what people here were hoping it would be. People want a definitive end, some cosmic punishment for Phil out of a movie, but Phil's life is one long story of him trading every piece of his life for money. Him "winning" the bankruptcy is him trading his future and any chance of moving on to continue his current life indefinitely. If he had lost the bankruptcy, he would have loved to some smaller place and done the same shit with a different backdrop, maybe we should have got a couple streams of salt from it, but he'd be back with the same shitty games and a new sob story and the paypigs would throw more money at him that he'd dump back into WWE, and people here would be disappointed anyway.
And in a couple years if Kat finally comes to her senses and leaves his ass, he'll act the same and beg and cry. If Twitch bans him, he'll move to YouTube or Mixer and act the same and beg and cry. If you want him to get his comeuppance, to follow a different cow, because if there's one thing that makes Phil Phil, it's that he has no shame and no rock bottom and will trade everything to be able to keep begging and that's what makes him fascinating.

There has been a large amount of posts of people professing their disinterest in this shitshow lately, so I'll throw in my two cents.
Bankrupcy saga has been hyped to hell, understandably, but also crashed as quickly. We all need to take a step back from the financial aspect of the shitshow since I feel, that people got too obsessed about it now. I know that the "end is near" feeling was great, but you have to be realistic, there was always the possibility, he would just continue as usual. I'm guilty of the above just as anyone.
Go watch some older TIHYDP's as a background, play through some games he did and get back the groove. We're in the eye of the shitstorm, so enjoy the silence, there is a lot of shit to get your daily dose of chuckles anyway.
And lastly, don't forget why we ever came here in the first place. Money doesn't matter, it never did. Stop expecting anything and surf the waves dood.
I'd also like to point out to the ones thinking there is no hope and Phil can easily go to retirement on streaming. It's been mentioned before, but Phil has a really rough time making changes and changing with the times. Video games/streaming has advanced in his 11 year legacy and each time, Phil was one of, if not the last to make changes popular streamers were able to perform. VR has what, just got finished with it's 3rd, 4th wave of fad popularity? And this last time, they got really close to replacing the older medium. They just need to reduce cost, like a wii for VR, make it relatively easy to program for, and find a better solution for movement... then BAM, Phil will be left in the dust.
Some may still watch for a flailing guy in VR glasses, but as as soon as a more immersive environment becomes reality, how many of the DSPigs will honestly rather watch a guy play games for them, when they can live in one? The may dislike playing games for one reason or another, especially those who dislike simple challenges - but the truly disabled? Plopping into a virtual world while IRL being in a wheelchair has to bee infinitely more appealing to waste money on.
Now if they combine gacha games with it... Phil will be stuck in the new VR Ultimate WWE Champions ogling oiled men wrestlers and have no time for streaming anymore. I just hope he tries to monetize a 24 live stream where people tune in to watch a 50 year old stare into his headset slowly decay while sitting on his decrepit coach. The restreamers could even have live polls and a Death clock ticking down in the corner.
I’ve noticed since I’ve been checking out KiwiFarms that the amount of posts on this thread has hugely decreased since his bankruptcy went through. I’ve been feeling the same way, it’s just not that funny anymore. Yes he has a horrible life but he really has won lately. He’s deleted hundreds of thousands in debt and has been getting more money than ever. Let’s be real, the only thing that makes him happy is money. He still might fuck up but I’ve got the feeling that it’ll be a while until anything truly funny happens with him soon.

Thing is, I don't think he's happy, even by his terms. That's one of the few things that I think is interesting about Phil, his apparent ability to ever be happy. I think we've seen a few glimpses into what he actually looks like when he's happy. Him talking about wrestling in his old clan and him talking about old food places he used to go to are the main ones that come to mind. I assume actually going out and eating still makes him happy too.
Other than that, I think we see glimpses of him getting excited on stream when someone throws a large roll of quarters at him, but I think calling this happiness is a stretch given how fleeting it is. Phil is greedy and absolutely loves money, but I think he cares more about his pride. You can see he starts to get happy when he thinks he dunks on someone, but then he gets all pissy because instead of thousands of people jumping on the Phil positivity bandwagon or retweeting something he thinks will go viral and save his reputation, he just gets shut down and mocked. He so desperately wants to convince the world he's this "true honest gamer" that has insightful reviews and meaningfully contributes to the gaming world. Look how excited he got when he received what was most likely a generic copy/pasted message from Twitch, or how he got to appear in some rotating stream compilation thing at Twitchcon that was filled with other literal who partners who weren't important enough to get invited to the actual con event.
By all accounts, Phil should be living a pretty happy life. Dude gets to set his own schedule, play video games for a living, and can reliably get $100 by putting on a vest. He has a weirdly loyal audience that would theoretically support whatever he wanted to stream. I admit I know jack all about Seattle, but it seems like a big enough location that would probably have at least a few places to cater to whatever nerdy habits you'd expect someone like Phil to have, and even if it is needlessly overpriced, he has the money for it. He has all that going on, but he's still just a bitter, miserable hermit who seems incapable of enjoying himself. Just look at his wedding night. A reasonable person, and hell, probably even a fair amount of unreasonable people, would be ecstatic and want to spend time with their wife. But Phil? He was trying to dunk on detractors.
Even with his stream, it's pretty rare to see him actually enjoying a game. Even when he's having fun for awhile, something usually sets him off, whether it's the slightest increase in challenge, people in his chat not talking about him, or just some other random topic he feels the need to get salty about. One of the biggest benefits about streaming as a career is you get to do something you enjoy. There's plenty of niche streamers who get by focusing on a few specific games, and with the way Twitch has expanded in recent years, you can even get away with doing other hobby stuff. With that much freedom, and a loyal group of paypigs who will back whatever he wants to do, there's no reason he should be so miserable with his streams.

Frankly I found it far more sociopathic to obsess over the fake Burger King than if he had properly engaged in the content and unloaded in the civilians.

Twitch has other ways of doing this, though. They could ban tips being allowed on their streams whatsoever. Take bigger cuts out of cheers. Force some subscription method.
This is one reason why I don't think Phil is entirely un-bannable on Twitch. He brings in a lot of money for them, making him protected, for now. But his endless pursuit of tips over subs/cheers will eventually get Twitch's attention. If they see revenue declining from him, they might just find some reason to get rid of him as his liability outstrips his value. Phil doesn't change is because he always gets his way. Like a spoiled brat child that throws a fit and mommy gives him his wolverine toy, they grow up never knowing how to deal with anything and are total failures at life. If Phil had lost his home in bankruptcy, he'd be forced to learn how to adapt and would come out a slightly better person. Instead, Phil has just been given another wolverine figure, and didn't have to do anything to earn it other than lie and cheat the government and his creditors.
People who get money easily also lose it easily, which is how Phil got $140,000 in CC debt. He'll most certainly do it again, but next time it will be even worse. The Vest streak is training Phil to expect this level of tipping indefinitely, but it will end one day. And the more he gets away with, and the easier the money comes in, the more he'll push the envelope. The bankruptcy outcome may have been a disappointment to us today, but I believe it will reward us greatly in the future when Phil really starts believing he can get away with anything.

One thing that stood out to me in the Modern Warfare 2 stream last night. Phil didn't participate in the civilian shooting during the No Russian segment, probably because he wants to appear like a mature grownup, as doing an over the top "Kill all the civillians! HAHAHA!" bit would be a very 2010s Phil playing a character thing to do. But then, in the next mission, there's a part where a dog barks at you from behind a chain link fence. Phil quickly shoots it (even though it's a background element that poses no threat) and deadpans "shut up." Then he tries to put a band-aid on it by saying "That was fucked up, wasn't it?" and claiming the barking was ruining his concentration.

And with these things in mind is, for me anyway, one of the various reasons why I believe that Phil is not a gamer. One could reach a hard part in a game, get salty, catch an L, learn from it and move on; Phil for some weird reason cannot.
A detractor, I forget which one, had mentioned why DSP can't take gaming seriously since in his mind video games are for children. Unfortunately for him while there are children games most games today have evolved and increased in difficulty. It's why we as detractors and critics can point and laugh as this idiot face tanks everything and learns nothing.
It's also why there is so much handholding. One could attribute it to pure laziness, which is true; I also attribute it to a lack of respect for the audience/not giving a fuck. "There're children and man babies, they are supposed to sit down, shut the fuck up and give me money".
It's just another layer of the shit sandwich I find very fascinating....
DSP announced in a Tweet that he disabled YouTube monetization for the prestream upload of him ranting about the latest Keemstar-H3H3 drama. This was so people couldn't accuse him of m̃ilking drama for YouTube ad revenue like with the infamous Etika prestream shortly following news of his suicide. Normally, I have uBlock Origin enabled, but by chance I clicked on DSP's late-stream video on mobile and noticed there was 15 fucking ads on it. 15 ads on an hour-long video. This to me seems a bit excessive especially considering the quality of DSP's videos. Looking at some of the other recent videos, they tend to have much less, 8 on average. Did this greedy prick actually switch the monetization to aggressive mode to make up for one video of lost revenue? I recall someone recently accusing him of putting the ads on the most aggressive setting, and him claiming it was on whatever the default was.
So I'm just checking now to confirm there aren't ads on the prestream video, and there actually are. I'm given two mandatory ads before being allowed to watch it on desktop, and there are four ads on mobile. I don't know how the ad system works at all, it seems nebulous and inconsistent.
A few days ago during the latest Minecraft stream, Phil was asked by someone if he would turn off the music for the upcoming Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake playthough. People who grew up playing THPS knows turning off the music is sacrilege. In a rare move, DSP says he might "bite the bullet" leaving the music on and taking the hit if the YouTube videos are demonetized. I thought maybe he was being nice for once. 18 minutes later someone called Kashtarr who normally only watches on YouTube sent Phil some money, and Phil made a special point thanking him for showing up and contributing during a livestream because "YouTube ad revenue is just non-existent, it's just nothing, it's a trickle. I really do rely on people contributing on the streams now." So there you go. He thought playing the game without music might deter people from watching and contributing on the livestreams. There's always an ulterior motive. He's never giving any more than he needs to, if ever it appears like he's being nice to his "clients", there's always some unsaid benefit he's getting out of it.
I noticed recently that the March 14th 2020 prestream was quietly deleted. That was the prestream where "trial mods" Kinggoken and DrsGangsta141 were added. There were also some hot takes about COVID-19, but by no means the worst. The VOD is here and stream chat here if you want to take a stab at solving the mystery of the prestream that never was.
Now for some prestream stats I forgot to post months ago. The total duration of all the prestream videos in the Post August 2015 playlist to December 31st 2019 is 30 days 4 hours and 42 minutes. Or 8.5 million words. For a TTS to read the YouTube-generated captions, it would take an estimated 29 days and 10 hours. The YouTube-generated captions for all the prestreams are lumped into a singular document here(warning, 42.5MB TXT file, might crash your computer). You can simply add to that file if you wish to make future analysis. Since the data doesn't factor in the unrecorded prestream music or post-prestream pre-gameplay break, the stats are not so meaningful (but still interesting), since there's a whole lot more wasted time not even present in the YouTube recordings. One thing that stood out to me in the Modern Warfare 2 stream last night. Phil didn't participate in the civilian shooting during the No Russian segment, probably because he wants to appear like a mature grownup, as doing an over the top "Kill all the civillians! HAHAHA!" bit would be a very 2010s Phil playing a character thing to do. But then, in the next mission, there's a part where a dog barks at you from behind a chain link fence. Phil quickly shoots it (even though it's a background element that poses no threat) and deadpans "shut up." Then he tries to put a band-aid on it by saying "That was fucked up, wasn't it?" and claiming the barking was ruining his concentration.

I realize not everybody knows a lot about guns and military hardware. But, Phil has been playing first-person shooters for years and years... and his lack of common sense knowledge on what an assault rifle looks like vs. a shotgun, or what a fucking Stinger missile does really comes out when he plays a military shooter. Phil should know the very basics about what certain guns look like and have a rough idea how they are going to function (also basic knowledge of how high ground advantage and line of sight work) just from playing a ton of military shooters over the years. But this is Phil we’re talking about here, I guess. And yes, his obsession with everything food-related is so odd. He even ran up to the convenience store heat lamp food and had to make a whole bit about it in the middle of the Wolverines level. Besides money, it always seems like food references are the only things that engage his attention. What a fucking weird person.

lmao Darksy is trying REALLY hard to force himself into the youtube drama shit to get a few more eyes turned towards his shitty stream. I wonder how many days he'll keep this up, maybe this whole segment will just become a standard part of his prestream and it'll bloat up to 3 hours per day instead of 2.
