If someone is so unstable that the loss of a relationship leads to suicide, you very likely had more issues than just the failed relationship.

The linked thread mentions Zac's substance abuse issues and I'm sure he mentioned around the time Jesu moved out that he was dealing with the same drinking and depression issues before they even got together. So it's been there most of his adult life, distracting himself with a partner and the whole transition situation allowed him to avoid dealing with himself. KickVic also provided a useful distraction when that (literally) ran out the door.

I would also wager the relationship itself was pretty unhealthy in private if Zac never addressed his depression or drinking issues properly. It can make it hard for the other person to leave when you genuinely feel you might be the only reason that persons still alive. I mean making the guy endure a transition and making him watch real time as she gradually disengaged from the relationship sucks hard. But also possible that Jesu felt that was the safest way to "leave" was in the same way you slowly pull out a jenga block. Only people are not Jenga towers and most relationship advice suggests this sort of approach to ending relationships is likely the most destructive.

I think they are both shitty people who gave each other baggage they couldn't really handle in the long run, But at the end of the day, it comes down to the individual to find reasons to live, that charge shouldn't be on anyone else.

EDIT: His self-hate blog has an entry that's pretty much an admission any relationship he had was always doomed because he expected his partner to provide the self-worth and confidence he wouldn't give himself. (archive)

I'm sure being a self loathing white male who was very likely straight but pretended to be bisexual when his GF came out as a troon to avoid getting cancelled (and possibly because he really did love her, which might be even sadder) didn't help at all.

Bertschy's untimely demise should stand as a warning of what the ideal life and position of a white dude is to the ingsoc crowd and where it leads. This is what a "privilege conscious" life looks like. Always feeling guilty for existing, never allowed to be yourself, your problems and feelings are always bottom priority.

Nash was in a rut when she left him, too, right? Like she basically took everything out from under him, but Nash managed to crawl out of that depression to keep going. But she ended up with a more insecure guy and he took it a step further. Hope's a rat who either bails from ships when they're about to sink or she's the one who bites holes into the ship to then jump when it starts to sink.

Her Crunchyroll girlfriend better get out while she still can. Don't let it be Hope who initiates the breakup, let it be the other way around and just run.

While I'm not sure if this is "white guy in SocJus" since this is one guy and this could be an outlier, Sounds like Zac had a lot of demons beforehand. And I'm willing to bet the quarantine sure didn't help matters.
