Fucking beautiful.
My quick thoughts:
Ethan's right about the class system. What he isn't talking about is the fact that he and WC worked hard to create the class system that exists. What he gets right is that these class systems always develop in human societies. First they are created by merit. The strongest hunters eat the lions share after all. But eventually they always degenerate into corrupt class systems like France before the Revolution. People with less will always resent people with more even if they are helped by those with more. Ethan helped some but he also held others back or worse.
Ethan is the hunter. He built something big on the merits of his ability to self promote and to a lesser degree on his artistic merit.
Ethan is also Louis the 16th he used every resource in his grasp (especially WarCampaign) to secure his power. WC promotes for him, intimidates for him, exiles others for him, propagandizes, distracts, lies and runs ops all for him so he can retain his grasp. But WC also wants "their share" as they see it.
The irony is that Ethan's powers of self promotion were never rivaled (the only one who came remotely close was TenNaple and he's a very distant second) and he's never needed WC.
There are peasants in CG without doubt. There are also lords like Cecil, Malin and Ro. It's usually feuds between lords like this one that lead to the war that ends the King's reign.
Let's hope this one works out like the French revolution with no king to follow and plenty of deserving heads rolling off the stage.
I don't know if the French Revolution led to the birth of communism. It obviously played a roll. But the class warfare going on in CG right now strongly reflects the French Revolutionary sentiments as well as those that fomented the Marxist conflicts of the 19th and 20th century.
Anyway, Ethan made a fool of Pan, as one would expect, but he also made tactical errors. He did shit he can't walk back easily and Pan isn't the enemy he has to worry about.
