Do people still not understand how the 3/5ths Compromise worked? The pro-slavery states wanted black slaves to count as full people for purposes of congressional delegate count, while the anti-slavery states didn't want black slaves to count as people at all. If blacks were counted as full people, then slave states would have even more political power than they already had.

Mostly luck probably. I was unarmed and simply recording but the person I was with was armed with a bat just in case somebody tried to jump us or something. That seemed to be a good enough deterrent to keep most people away. We did keep a pistol in the car as an absolute last resort in case somebody tried to jump us while we were driving away but luckily that never happened.

The riot was separated into 2 groups. First off there was the smaller group of people who were actually armed and leading the mob to new buildings to pilfer. Then there was the bulk of the mob who were simply bored teenagers that wanted to light off fireworks and steal free shit. All they did was scavenge the stores after the main group had left. I did my best to stay behind in the second group and do my recording from there.

I left as soon as the gunshots from the former group started getting more frequent and closer to where I was. I'm not going to get between a mob and their discount malt liquor. I value my life way too much.

When we get right down to it, the police are the front line in any persons interaction with the State as a hostile entity. Which means nobody likes you. It sucks, but this is the life you chose. Nobody made you be the bully boy for the powers that be. You chose that path. Deal with it. If you cant turn in your badge.

The problem with incidents like this is that the police ARE the representatives of the State. When a police officer puts his knee on a man and suffocates him to death the officer himself is not doing it. The STATE ITSELF did it. The police officer did not kill this man. The government eternal, through its sworn agent killed him.

And how does one get justice from the Government? Do you ask nicely?
