Ok it seems we got a little heated there. And by that I mean holy fucking shit 2 self doxxes and a flamewar. So let's take a step back and just put things into context. Deep breaths.
@Ivan Shatov. This part of the message will now mostly be dedicated to you as you seem to have crossed many a line and I've seen enough of your posts in the past that I think you are not beyond redemption. So let's first forget about all the posterior shitfest and surrounding issues and focus on the incident.
So. Guy got arrested. I don't care what for. He trief to resist and was pinned and cuffed as a result. And then the cop kept his knee on the man's neck despite protests by bystandanders until the eventual death of the guy. His 3 partners stood there, pinning the guy's limbs, and did absolutely nothing to stop the incident from continuing despite the obvious harm being done.
I think we can all agree the cops fucked up, majorly. The reason why I think so is best detailed in this comment:
Yeah people pull the "I cant breathe officer" all the time. That being said, I received some arrest technique training in my life, and kneeling on someone's neck was explicitly forbidden. (well kneeling on anything that's marked red on the schematics) That is grounds for punishment.
As Citation explains. Kneeling on someone's neck is actually considered illegal under pretty much all circumstances. Had the cop been kneeling on his back, he could've still asphixiated him due to lung depression, but it wouldn't be so clearcut. But cops are specifically trained never to step on people's necks. And there's a good biological reason why, as otterly explains here:
Expertise. It’s the same way crucifixion kills you, positional asphyxia, albeit nowhere near as extreme. Even being cuffed hands behind back and lying prone will cause breathing issues in some people. Any compression of the neck Can kill. Have had this argument a thousand times trying to persuade women whose BFs are into ‘breath play’ that it can and does kill - all it needs is a bit of plaque dislodged off an artery and it’s goodnight vienna.
Any comorbidities- large guy, being overweight, and kind of heart or lung issue amplifies the risk. The autopsy may show heart attack, stroke or asphyxia - but all will be a direct result of that restraint. .
I know cops face some pretty hard arrests, with some violent offenders and they need robust techniques to keep an offender down, and they need to be able to restrain - but kneeling with your knee on a prone cuffed man is not good.
Cop needs to be charged, is my opinion.
Of course, everyone knows the neck is extremely vulnerable because of the windpipe, but that's far from the whole story. The neck has the largest and most vulnerable vein and artery in the whole damned body (outside of the heart itself) because it feeds oxygen to the god damned brain. I don't care about the circumstances, people are pinned by the torso, never the neck. This isn't just for cops. If you go to any martial arts training that's not illegal they will make god damned emphasis: if you attack someone's neck, you will be held responsible if they die. Because that is an extremely stupid thing to do.
Now this is not to say the cop was literally out for blood. I have learned never to assume intent, but at the very least it is criminal negligence, he could just be a moron but the law actually does establish being too moronic is just as bad as being malicious. As for the hecklers. Yes, maybe they could have handled it differently, maybe they made things worse. This doesn't excuse the cop's actions. And it certainly doesn't excuse the other 3 fuckers. Because kneeman might have frozen but the other 3 had a lot of time to stop him and could have reasoned properly with him. Legally they don't have as much of a responsibility for the result. But imho morally they are even worse.
Once that incident is dealt with we can go focus on the following incidents. Fuck the looters. Just fuck them. This was the time for peaceful protest and demand of change. They could have pushed for the introduction of checks and balances. They could have fucking helped society move forward. Instead they went on a looting spree, polarized the climate and made things worse. Fuck them. Hard. That is not to say that I agree with Ivan's statement that people shouldn't care at all because they don't care about some spree killers. Figures of authority should be held to a higher standard. There will always be assholes, but the police should cull the assholes from their ranks. Someone killed by an officer without cause is worse than someone killed by a civilian without cause by principle. But fuck the god damned looters. That's all. I hope you could all take a deep breath and stop this insanity.
