Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Well, people are misinformed and now have another way to be touchy-feely and annoy the world: "look, (insert future Karen voice) *I* don't drink the white secretion of the bovine mammary gland (the filter gets me all the time), because the cow suffers and it means the cow was raped" (mmmh the feeling of being better than anyone else, priceless)

in 2020 then can also say "well, *I* am wearing a mask whatever you say about it being not recommended, useless in practice and possibly harmful, *I* am doing my part to save others, *you* are irresponsible and selfish"

oh and I remember someody telling me once "already 60 doctors died worldwide!"

300-400 doctors die from suicide in the US alone every year and is anyone panicking about that?

oh and the idea of drinking bleach to cure diseases is not new

I saw the Trump interview when he said something about injecting desinfectant, it seems he wanted to say something like "injecting something which will end up desinfecting the lungs" but still the way he said it was very unfortunate to say the least

I heard people saying that drinking alcohol would clean them from the virus. Then others just repeated it. They were surprised when they heard that we have two tubes - one for food, one for breathing, and a a bottle of something in the breathing tube will mean death.

Many pro-lockdown think that people who don't want to wear masks are yee-haws that walk dragging their knuckles on the floor. As usual the touchy-feely crowd are for free speech and everything as long as it agrees with them. A lot think not sticking to a lockdown is Idiocracy realised.

Yet some people don't wear a mask because of scientific reasons, because the WHO said so. The whole virus thing is creating huge mental health problems:

and some can say "I read the evidence and in my risk group, the mask and lockdown will cause more harm than benefit" but the touchy-feely crowd will have none of that - you're infecting everyone! I am young, don't want to die!

Well stay home and go out dressed as an astronaut if you want. You can do it for all your life.

I can see old people not wanting to get a bad flu, so they mighy take precautions like not kissing people with a cold. But imho they were not doing that anyway. And it has happened many times that internal medicine wards / old people's homes, especially those for old sick people post a sign saying visits are not permitted because there's a virus going around.

Anyway...

I really think these people are crazy and they do cause harm though. Giving very wrong and harmful medical advice re: AIDS or this new virus is like saying "I'm no electrician, but I believe that sticking your fingers in a plug doesn't give a shock. "In 2008, activist Christine Maggiore died at the age of 52 while under a doctor's care for pneumonia. Maggiore, mother of two children, had founded an organisation to help other HIV-positive mothers avoid taking antiretroviral drugs that reduce the risk of HIV transmission from mother to child. After her three-year-old daughter died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 2005, Maggiore continued to believe that HIV is not the cause of AIDS..."

(no use arguing with these people. We can present all the evidence in the world, they will shut it down - "the WHO says no masks" - fingers in the ears and "woowoowoowoowoo")

and

"In 2007, aidstruth.org, a website run by HIV researchers to counter denialist claims, published a partial list of HIV/AIDS denialists who had died of AIDS-related causes. For example, the editors of the magazine Continuum consistently denied the existence of HIV/AIDS. The magazine shut down after both editors died of AIDS-related causes. In each case, the HIV/AIDS denialist community attributed the deaths to unknown causes, secret drug use, or stress rather than HIV/AIDS.Similarly, several HIV-positive former dissidents have reported being ostracized by the AIDS-denialist community after they developed AIDS and decided to pursue effective antiretroviral treatment."

So we dont need to print 750 billions to keep you alive?
makes me almost feel bad, i like the printer sound,,,

Its all the beer!

In EU news, The EU is fighting the Lufthansa deal and wants alot of money with no real plan.
the 750 billion they want are bad, but attacking germany for the Lufthansa deal is just a exceptional move. the deal is way more taxpayer friendly than the deals other carrier got. the main problem is that the EU wants Lufthansa to give expensive airport slots to potatoe airways and others for free.

I've allways been of the idea that what Spain, and everyone else in europe for that matter, needs is freedom, and I've repeatedly advocated for laying off the printer. So, it is still too early to say 100% but with 1/8th of the problem already fucking solved I'd say I'm being vindicated. But don't worry, northern europe will get the 750 banned like always.

As for Lufthansa. I agree on principle. But you made that fucking law. So you have no idea how good it feels to see you get a cup of your own medicine after you've spent over a decade now doing this bullshit to the rest of us.

Same here.

Don't believe it will be long until it's realized that the widespread placing of entire states under long-term (more than 2-3 weeks) house arrest was one of the worst things ever to happen here. This could have been done smartly. Lockdown for two weeks. Then identify hot spots, quarantine those areas and buffer zones, and let everyone else go back to work/school/whatever, using reasonable precautions. Believe this would have gotten the job done with a minimum of disruption to the economy and people's lives. And if this had been stated up front believe you'd see an extensive buy-in. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to devise such a strategy.

However, NONE of the states who placed their people under house arrest used this rather simple model. NONE. The little Hitlers that "run" these states apparently never even entertained the thoughts of (a) make the lockdown as short a possible, with the minimum of disruption and (b) one size doesn't fit all. What may be appropriate for a large city may not be applicable for a rural area. I find this beyond disgusting. Utterly beyond my comprehension, but then again, I use logic rather than politics to work issues.

If there is anything good to have come out of this utterly fucked-up clusterfuck, it is that people now see just how quickly and easily these governors go full Nazi. Believe Whitmer, Newsom, Cuomo and maybe Ige of Hawaii need to be recalled right now. They have been easily the most draconian of these Nazis. Don't even believe my namesake would mandate some of the shit Whitmer did. Can't buy garden seeds/seedlings in stores? Just when gardening season is starting? Michigan residents can't go to their vacation homes, but if you live in another state no problem going to your vacation home? Can't use a motorized boat on the water, but a nonmotorized boat is okay? These are not the mandates of a rational human being. No medical justification whatsoever for such ukases. Just a lust for power and a hatred of the people.

These house arrests ceased to be health-related after three weeks. Then they all turned into political power trips. Incredibly, these "geniuses" apparently totally forgot that tax revenues of all kinda would take a dive with the entire state on house arrest. Now they want a bailout from Washington. Fuck that and fuck them.

Looking out a year or so, believe the economic disruption can be fixed, as long as these Nazis leave people alone. The biggest, and perhaps the most important effect, is the widespread loss of trust in and respect for state/county/city government and law enforcement. Those bonds have gotten more and more frayed over the years. This shit shattered them, possibly irreparably. While some dumbfucks will say the house arrests were worthwhile, they are wrong. People overall see these long-term house arrests were simply not justified, brought a great deal of unnecessary hardship, and stoked a lot of anger. Next time there's some sort of calamity doubt there will be a lot of cooperation with government edicts. It's now known that politics transcends logic, every time. Those in charge care only about themselves and their power. So if they don't care about us, why should we believe anything they say?

This shit didn't have to happen. That is did is an indictment of every little Hitler who fucked over their people.
First time in history that the healthy were quarantined. The most vulnerable profile was determined since the beginning and has not changed.

I maintain that NO lockdown was necessary. The vulnerable should have been protected (in case they can’t make their own decisions) or advised.

Government got involved and the rest is history.

Why would the knuckleheads that signed off to the Paris accords be expected to show even a bit of good judgement?

I noticed that the pro lockdown people on this site don’t even come into this thread anymore. This is thread is getting boring without them.

I am pro-lockdown, alright. First of all, the streets were much more pleasant with less people around. Also my lifestyle was kinda vindicated, now again it's acceptable to socialize 🤮

I want to clarify: I am pro-lockdown of all the uggos and fatties in special detention camps where they will get compulsory fitness classes 7 days a week, be put on diet and get some basic stylist advice how to dress to not offend my senses.

Slim, attractive people can totally go back to work, unless they can and prefer to work from home :)

I do miss them too, the "second wave" rhetoric that the media is trying to pull isn't even working correctly because all the the doomers that were worried about this probably killed themselves. I do miss the "we got to X amount of deaths WITH a lockdown imagine how high it would be if there wasn't any?" statement. Guaranteed there would have been more deaths with no lockdown but it would have been Super Boomers in nursing homes hitting the brunt of it not the majority of the population.

EDITED: wrong there

The "Second Wave" rhetoric fell flat on its face after Georgia and a few other states have mostly reopened and after that 2 3 4 week period no much-vaunted "Second Wave" has occurred; so now the goalposts/narrative is shifting towards "well there will be a Second Wave in September/October/November because people aren't lockdowned nao!"

well, nice that you're being honest  actually you know someone once suggested that since fat people get sick and have lots of problems and public health must spend a lot of money on them, it would be cheaper to pay them something to get thinner, I think they tried it somewhere for some time but it didn't work

oh even the CDC says being fat is a risk factor for virus disease. Interesting how they wanted everyone to wear a mask but not lead healthier lives

but then you know telling someone try to be healthy is fat discrimination

that’s because they all went Racing outside and went shopping at the earliest opportunity. It doesn’t matter what people say. The truth is what they do. And the number of people choosing to remain locked down even as the advocate for continued lockdown is nearly non-existent.

Folks, believe Newsom has done this to provoke violence at protests. He knows this won't be obeyed. Then he can use the violence as the reason to extend CA's house arrest indefinitely. Have already reported him to the DOJ. Would help if others did the same. Use the "contact" tab at the DOJ's website - www.justice.gov

Here's a little humor. Some businesses are telling people they can't wear masks. Cool!

Went to the nearby Navy base this morning. Needed a new military ID card. Had an appointment. Small shop, very nice ladies. Had to wait outside. Was asked if I had the ChiCom Flu. Gave them old ID card and drivers' license through a crack in the door. When the customer presently inside finished business was admitted after sanitization done. Door opened for me. Had sign saying not to touch door handle. Had me sanitize my hands. Got the ID card, expires whenever I do.

Added: Just found this. 🤣 If Nazi Newsom has to force state employees to be contact tracers, then little or nothing will get done. I'd block any number determined to be from ANY contact tracer. To participate is beyond retarded. Just gives "them" a reason to take you from home and incarcerate you in "quarantine". Homey don't play those games. And, as always, fuck 🖕 Newsom.

I was thinking this the other day when the store was super busy and as I drove home I saw a bunch of people lined up at restaurants and the mall and out in the parks.

My mom and my godmother are very pro-lockdown and keep talking shit about states reopening but at the same time they started going out to eat as soon as restaraunts reopened, and they don't see a contradiction at all.

The number of people who are truly locked down and not going out at all must be very small. They're just very vocal extremists who think you have to stay boarded up in your home unless you want to fall down dead.

I never stopped hiking or going to the park the whole time and neither did a lot of people. I had a few people yell at me for "breaking quarantine!" but there was never a ban on going to those places here, I don't know where those crazies got the idea that going outside at all was forbidden. Even a lot of pro-lockdown experts were saying going for a walk outside was not only low risk, but advisable because of the health benefits of fresh air, sunshine and exercise.

It will be interesting to see how the lockdown extremists will be perceived after this is over. It seems that even people who were initially supportive of that mentality are now starting to get annoyed by people telling them not to step foot outside their door.

Amazingly, it turns out that not wanting to stay locked up in a bunker doesn't mean you're a conspiracy theorist who thinks the virus is a big hoax and doesn't even exist.

This whole event has been really enlightening about what sheep people can be, and how a little fear is all it takes to get people to give up their rights (the Patriot Act was a big wakeup call too, but this time it was the left chomping at the bit to give up their rights, and all it took was to say "It's science! You don't want to be a science denialist, do you?")

It's also kind of funny that when this first started a lot of the people who are now insanely pro-lockdown were the biggest it's-just-a-flu-bro-ists, making fun of anyone who took it seriously and posting dumbass infographics about how it was a nothingburger compared to every other epidemic and anyone worried about it was anti-science and hysterical.

LA County is reopening all the shops for indoor shopping, as of yesterday I think. This is very exciting. I've been over at a friend's house twice in the last week and there's no social distancing going on. It's weird and very nice and scary, all at the same time. A super quarenteined friend has agreed to drinks 6' away, and outdoors, this weekend.

Indoor dining, hairdressers, and gyms are still closed, but *maybe* we're slowly coming back to normal? Or maybe it'll spike in the next month - who knows! YOLO

The worse effect from the Nanny Staters is they are causing irrational pushback against even reasonable basic precautions like Masks. By politely recommending masks people were fine with it. But by demanding masks and the sudden inrush of empowered Karen’s seeking to police everybody, the General mood regarding masks has gone from quiet cooperation to one of “you can all go fuck yourselves”. Not wearing a mask has become an act of passionate rebellion against the authoritarians. And it’s sprung up in just a matter of days.

Oh yeah, and in the middle of all the excitement, the first attempted suicide, in my circles, happened. It was a failure and they're okay, but the people who are more closely involved are super shaken up. I'm angry. It could have been a lot worse. Have we discussed the unhealthiness of lock-downs on mental health?

I have with real-life doctors, in theory you should be fine as long as you talk to friends, do something semi-productive, and exercise, but it's quite possible that many people are not doing that.

One additional problem is that people feel that they are being forced into doing this, and resign themselves to not doing anything, even though that might cause issues.

I don't know exactly how the "contact tracers" are going to work and what are they going to be spying about but it won't take long for people to say things like "yes actually maybe I coughed? Where I have been? hm let's see. I am not too sure because now I am anxious because you called me, but maybe I think I was at a police station for about 1 hour then I went to the DMV, stayed there for about 2 hours. Oh yes I touched everything - I think".

imho they haven't thought it well. With really dangerous disease people will readily say when and whom they met, with this virus they won't and will start to make up stuff and report their neighbours, businesses, anything.

And what if people go around with some old phone that doesn't have bluetooth? Many people in critical jobs have one as a backup phone (the "nice" phone runs out of battery and if you run around you don't want to have an expensive phone you can destroy - but an old one from 2005 won't run out of battery and who cares if you break it).

I think the UK and France are making some tracing app compulsory (not too sure).

If somebody has the patience and is a little resourceful they can root their phone, buy foreign sim cards, have a second phone, get a bluetooth jammer. So fine now not only money launderers will do these things.

Most people won't do that imho but I think many will report others out of spite. 14 days for everyone I had contact with? hmmm... my boss, yes, I talked with him for one hour, we both didn't have masks

sorry to hear about that. Yes, the WHO said people are getting mentally sick and having fights at home and there will be / is an epidemic of mental illness. Did any government say actually the effects on psychological health are more widespread are worse than the respiratory illness we are supposedly trying to prevent? no. Now they're getting anxiety and sleep problems and want pills etc. :-/

I don't know why people would agree to wholesale contact tracing. Sure, it's for the pandemic now, but if anyone thinks that they are going to willingly give up access to that information even if they had a 100% effective vaccine tomorrow is nuts. This is how they get you used to the idea and make it seem like a helpful thing.

I have always maintained that it was a medical nothingburger and have been against this lockdown. I analyzed the statistics early on and concluded so. I saw this as being in the same league as Climate Change but on steroids: how dare you own a gas guzzler Vs how dare you not stay in your pod. The first one took years to pozz the population, the latter one, weeks.

The death toll numbers went out the window for me on 3/24 when they changed the definition of a death by Chink.

So let’s see: hospitals’ main source of revenue are elective surgery (verboten due to the Ching Chong) and the relief package gives them a 20% bump on Medicaid and others IF you classify them as WuFlu? It’s inexplicable how our death numbers shot up.

So, at work I wear the fagmask to appease the bosses (they have no choice as the State makes them with the threat of shutting them down if they don’t) but I don’t anywhere else.
