That's comparable to the unemployment rates in Belfast when the Troubles kicked off, as well as in Tunisia right before the Arab Spring IIRC. Even under cobditions of extreme social pressure, things can trudge along for a certain period of time so long as young men have jobs and families to give them something to do and to lose. The "family" part has been on the decline among joggers (and poor whites and Hispanics for that matter as well) for years, but unemployment has been low enough for long enough that the final element was missing. But now that we are in double-digit, social unrest territory, the last guardrail has been removed

and in the mid-west thats every job in a store that isn't assistant manager. of course a shitload of employees are forced onto leave of absence or other shit because the companies themselves dont want to pay the unemployment benefits either
