Twitter Hides POTUS Tweet

Dilbertman has gone a bit loopy in a lot of ways, mostly because like most boomers he is terrified of death (no joke for years he has been saying that the reason he does so many interviews and periscopes etc is so that there is enough samples and data about his positions/behavior/thoughts that in the future they can essentially replicate him) but one thing he is usually pretty insightful on is persuasion techniques. Now these days he ignores a lot of Trump's flubs and covers for him which quite annoys me, but I've still taken a few of his lessons to heart. In this instance I think Trump is genuinely using a few of those innate techniques he has.

Specifically he has conditioned us to the idea there will be change in the social media landscape. A lot of us are, thanks to how increasingly frequent and intense his tweeting and message has become, fearing how far he will go. We are 'past the sale', we expect change now.

He's now also 'Going big then small'. Saying we should do a massive change, but then enacting a smaller one (compare his EO to saying repeal 230, and a year from now compare the actual changes to the wording of the EO) which everyone agrees is much much better than what he originally said (and is closer to what he actually wanted to achieve).

I mean, sure he could just be a big giant sperg, but he's used these types of techniques a bunch in the past to achieve things, and if it wasn't for the democrats, media, and RINOs he would have achieved a lot more legitimately good policy with those techniques.

*shrug*

Doesn't 230 have to be repealed by Congress?

They couldn't even repeal Obamacare
Still, a lot of Trump's base are elderly who are tech illiterate while also seeing Trump's words as the literal will of god.

Just by saying 230 should be banned, a large chunk of Trump's base now believe that 230 must be destroyed and will unquestioningly do everything in their power to make it happen.

The law you're asking for would have to be written in such a delicate, precise way to not have huge, far-reaching implications for all American websites. You're asking CONGRESS. Our CONGRESS. To do surgery.
And you know what they would do? They would create an executive branch agency responsible for it and then it would fall to the appointed officials of whoever gets elected as president. So even if it works are first we could get some democrat in who redefines things in a way that makes them worse than what they are right now.

Or!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congress has nothing to do with it. He's asking the FCC for clarification of the meaning of a term, which is within its power given the original language of the CDA.

The decision would come from a committee consisting of 2 Democrats, 2 Republicans, and Ajit Pai. While maybe that doesn't give you a lot of confidence, Pai's the person responsible for revoking net neutrality. He has a strong interest in not sinking the boat or pissing off the entire world.

Try to remember all the hype about how the Internet was going to become a metered service, similar to cable. That never happened. He's capable of delivering a workable solution that achieves policy goals without invoking some radical, transformative shift from the broader landscape.

Goddammit. God-fucking-dammit. Even I can't be optimistic about this shit, but I suppose it was naive to be optimistic in clown world to begin with. I'll put my rainbow wig on now.

Should things go irreversibly awry for our Shitposting Democratic Republic of Kiwi, it's been nothing less of an honor to shitpost with all of you.
