Minnesota is a duty to retreat state when you aren't in your home. Pretty sure they arrested some guy for doing that yesterday and left his store to be looted.

I recall some idiot farmer in MN a few years back decided to set a trap for kids who were constantly breaking into his farmhouse. He sat in his basement with a gun, then shot a couple who broke into it. Headshotted them just to make sure they were dead. He filmed it all and gave it to the cops who promptly arrested him for murder. So no, in MN, your house isn't your castle and you've no right to kill anyone who breaks in. (Of course, if you kill then and turn them into bonemeal for your animals, that's a different story.)

Saw the video yesterday. Utterly beyond my comprehension. I consider it murder. What got me was the cop being so nonchalant as he was killing this man. Cop was likely charged with manslaughter. Was a little surprised a bunch of people didn't rush the cops before they could draw their weapons.

Am sure the family has a lawyer. Also sure the city's lawyer has contacted the family's lawyer and offered a settlement. City would have less than zero chance in court, especially with a jury, makeup immaterial. Estimate settlement will be paid within the next two weeks if family approves. If not, a little longer, but the city's going to pay.

The family needs to sue each one of these policemen, personally, long as the settlement with the city allows it. They may not get millions but they'll get something, and more importantly, a judgement to serve as a lien on any future earnings/windfall money/lottery winnings/etc .

I know this is super late most likely but it came to mind reading about the black lady going "businesses have insurance".

Typical business/house insurance does NOT cover arson/looting. It costs extra. So while the big box stores might have it, it is more than likely that all this destruction is not covered at all by insurance.

Considering that, it makes one wonder how you can still justify looting a small business when people come up with excuses. I saw one guy try to justify it by noting how people are poor what with the lockdown and all but even if you got a poor guy looting a business, compare that to everyone else that's just looting stores just so they can get money out of frivolous shit and not really dealing with things like rent.
