Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Alright so. Overall good day for spain. I mean.. worried about the america shit 'cause if this tumbles the USA we're all gonna suffer. But for now:

-stocks everywhere going up at adequate paces. Except the ones that for some reason didn't open today. (National festivities I guess?) Go recovery!

-despite how much big biz loving globohomos claimed our bloated small bis and self employed sector would be an anchor in spain's economy and how much they reed about needing multinationals to put chains on it. It turns out 82% of our self employed have now reopened and most small bizes are in the way to recovery. With the bad news coming from the big bizzes and specially multinationals that have gone to shit. Practically stamping in clearcut terms that indeed renationalization, small biz creation and flexible self-feeding are the path to a stable future.

-the UBI is actually setting to indeed have the antifraud bureaucracy in place with measures added to ensure jobseeking, being used on a by-home basis to assfuck the illegal economy, and affecting other aid packages as originaly promised. So hooray for cleaning redundancies loopholes and fraud!
I still find the fact that our system was so rotten than UBI is promising to be cheaper in the end to be incredibly hilarious.

-after the judge of the big Anti-Gov case refused to add accusations against Fernando Simon, Vox tried suing him personally. And the second judge has also told them to put a sock in it and go fuck themselves. So hooray for sane judges!
And hooray for leaving poor Fernando alone. He's suffered enough. He's a hero and he's being punished for it. Fuck Vox. Fuck Vox from the bottom of my heart for this one thing specifically.

-The Lockdowns lift is being accelerated one more time so it seems it really will drop sooner than thought. And indeed even the motherducking King on his latest speech has talked about the grievous consequences they brought and the need to move on. I think it's the most attention anyone's paid to the guy. Mostly thanks to confirmation bias. Hilariously he's also talked about the need for national unity and underhandedly bitchslapped the right wing for going semi-separatist trying to claim more competences for the autonomies against consitutional law to try and syphon power from the left wing gov. Which has the extreme right wing sent into a massive flurry of infighting, as the moderate right wing keeps joining with the left on the sidelines getting popcorn, which is absolutely hilarious. God thank you Felipe. I knew you were the least awful king we'd have. Thank you for this massive fucking joke.

Seriously it's the first time I've had people send me quotes from the king. And holy shit they are gold. Do take into account that the extremist spanish right wing is extremely anti-separatist, and also extremely pro-monarchy, so having the monarchy call them out for being separatists and having their politicians try to justify it has been just puuuure keks.

-I got wind (unofficialy) from union sources that anticorruption has started looking into Los Pascuales. So that might actually get fixed by a judge before violence erups. Fingers crossed!

And despite the protests virus is still well within reasonable levels and going down. So I can already feel the glass of moscatel coming. Oh it will taste so good.

Overall. Today I'm happy. It really feels like victory. And while on the personal side I have a giant source of stress today I did acceptable on that side too. So I feel like celebrating. Hope you feel great too. And those in areas afected by the riots... I'm sorry. But I hope you're doing well enough and finding safety despite them.

Michigan, USA

Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has finally lifted our stay at home order.
"She will also loosen restrictions on gatherings, allowing for up to 100 people instead of the current 10, and allow in-person dining -- with capacity limits -- at restaurants starting June 8, according to the Associated Press. Starting June 4, retailers can reopen to customers without an appointment with capacity limits, as well."

SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN
Shelter-in-place order from Tuesday March 24 to Monday April 13. Friday, May 1, Friday, May 15, May 28, but May 22 for the farthest north, May 21, kind of? But also June 12 May 1, maybe? June 1, for real this time. (archive May 21) (executive order saved on KF) . The Republican-controlled legislature has refused to extend Governor Whitmer's emergency authority. Governor Whitmer insists her emergency orders are all still in effect (Rundown on the laws).
State attorney general Dana Nessel (D) is also leaving enforcement of the stay-at-home order to local discretion until the courts weigh in on it (archive). She has stated Governor Whitmer's orders are valid and are to be enforced (archive). The legislature is not calling for civil disobedience at this time (archive).
The legislature has filed a lawsuit against the governor (archive). Oral arguments were heard May 15 (archive). A Court of Claims judge has ruled in favor of the governor. The legislature has appealed.
State senate leader Mike Shirkey (R) is also supporting a petition drive to change the law. Such a petition would require 340,047 signatures to be collected. It would be veto-proof if approved by the legislature, and would go on the next general election ballot if denied by them (archive 1, archive 2, archive 3).
U. S. Rep Paul Mitchell (R - The Thumb) has filed a lawsuit independently against Governor Whitmer, in federal district court. Link, pdf on KF. He has also founded a committee to work on the petition recommended by Sen. Shirkey.
The U.S. Department of Justice is supporting another lawsuit, brought by seven businesses (archive).
There have been over a dozen lawsuits in all against Governor Whitmer's actions during this crisis, mostly regarding the shut-down order, in various stages of progress and in various courts (summary of eight of them). However, "all deadlines applicable to the commencement of all civil and probate actions and proceedings" are suspended until the end of the states of emergency and disaster. Executive order, and thus in limbo. (archive).

Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has stated there will not be a "ramp up" of police enforcement (archive). The attorney general has left it to local law enforcement to close businesses, as her hands are full with price-gougers and con artists (archive).

Good, but this bitch still needs to be recalled.

And today on "shit I hope stays the way it is". I realized some programs have gotten considerably better during lockdown. And El Hormiguero is the most obvious. So, let me explain what it is, how it changed and why I actually like it better this way.

El hormiguero is a late night show made by Pablo Motos, an old radio host from a comedy program. Honestly, almost all the good spanish shows are made by comedians. Like "me resbala", I recommend that one a lot. I guess it makes sense. Spanish journos suck, spanish comedians are amazing. Anyway. Point is:

El hormiguero was designed specifically for kids. So it steered away from politics altogether, and was generally safe. But it also had 2 things to distinguish it. 1-It was made by wide sections where collaborators would bring, well, really, their toys. Comedians made monologues, magicians made and explained magic tricks, Marron and El Hombre de Negro brought massive fucking rube goldberg machines, science demonstrations (like non newtonian pools to run over or faraday cages and coils to make music, they've wrecked more cars than I can count, etc.) And you know. They all just dicked around with extremely expensive toys. Which was fun. 2-as the name ("the anthouse") would indicate. They had 2 collaborators stuck underneath a table controlling 2 "ant" muppets known as Trancas and Barrancas. They were clearly based on Bert and Ernie, except while their ernie is indeed still the typical innocent but near braindead character, their Bert was actually a womanizing, raunchy, asshole. Pablo Motos played the straightman instead.

So. As far as late night shows go. El Hormiguero was fairly decent. It still had the celebrity interviews and all of the fucking "insert laughtrack here" jokes but, if you wanted to leave something in the background while doing something else or leave the kids stuck to a screen, I'd say that's the best option. So overall, I'd say I give it a solid passing grade. And sometimes the spectacles were genuinely impressive, specially whenever the crane came in, that's when you knew they were about to break something big in absolutely overkill ways.

So, thing is, since the lockdown started they had no public and no celebrities except on call. This means they had no laugh track, and the celebrities could only be there during the interview, as opposed to all the fucking time. And honestly... it's so much better.

What they've done is have Motos and the ants accompanied by 3 of his typical collaborators (Piedrailla, who is genuinely one of the best comedians still alive in spain, Marron, aka the guy that brings the scientific fun. And El Monaguillo, who is a fairly funny and personable guy that makes segments making fun of himself all the time and analyzing cheap chinese shitty toys he bought online) all the time, and instead of having a strict flaccid mainstream appealing script, they've only had specific points to cover and most of the time they've just been freestyling.

Or in other words. It's just 6 really talented guys who have been friends for a long time dicking around for an hour with a camera pointed at them and some gadgets. And honestly. Their jokes have gotten so much better. The lack of laugh track has forced them to go on without that kinda shit, and the atmosphere in general has just improved noticeably. I mean. I'm not saying they should have no in-study public, but, you know, the style improved a lot. And even they seemed to enjoy it more. You could feel the chemistry, I mean really they've been spending the programs just making fun of each other and laughing at their own stupid jokes. But it's felt so genuine and just fun really.

I do think the public helped for some segments but I do hope the laugh track, heavy script, punchline humor and general rigid structure stay gone after this. I like this program more than the one we had before. By a lot.

Visited the clinic and apprantely, I have the symptoms of the virus. And I'll get the results of that turns out to be Corona-chan or not tomorrow.
Welp.
Good news! Its not the virus but another entirely different thing! Bad news! It would take months to cure if I don't take the surgery option.
At least its not the virus and I'm a patient guy. Surgery is a last result.

Now on topic, I don't really think numbers would spike up too drastically after the riots. Fair amount of people got it and didn't know, and there was also evidence that antibodies prevent reinfection. Or maybe they would inflate the numbers anyway to get their power high back.

Until a second wave occurs and more people test positive after the riots.
second wave isn't happening
even if it does its probably going to be half of what it was before. I did not expect the news on this virus to die down so quickly. Literally Mid May people were out and not social distancing and people were snitching calling lockdown protesters stupid and racist
now we have riots filled with tear gas that are causing god only knows how many infected libfags to spew rona in the air.
Its at the point where even if we didn't do nothing and millions worldwide died would those millions have been worth it? Most of them would have been 60-90 range, the younger sickly would have died (but are still dying in this timeline by their illness instead of rona) and most of the plebs would still have movies to watch on netflix and complain about the daily struggle

didn't mean to spurg there just wild that things have changed so fast

Damn in the span of a few days the entire US got converted from "STAY AT HOME GUYZ" to "JOGGER REVOLUTION NOW"
It's so scary how things are flipping so fast.

We ain't see nothing yet, Ebola-chan had returned to the Congo.

Hasn't it already been established in this very thread multiple times that ebola can't get even close to corona-chan's spreading prowess due to a rampant fatality rate and more difficult method of transmission? Feels like people are just throwing out more horror stories of this and that to keep that element of fear and anxiety that this abominable year's been fostering going at this rate.

Yeah. Ebola will keep popping back up because there’s a reservoir of it in the bats. It’s whack a mole when it pops up.
And to give Congo it’s due, they are good at suppressing these outbreaks as they occur. They can do that because you dont need anything high tech - you need the knowledge of correct quarantine, body disposal and barrier nursing. They do that well.
Ebola is spread by direct contact with infected fluids and while it’s up there on the ‘not nice ways to die’ list it’s no threat to humanity as a whole. Sucks for Congo, who are doing their best with a war continuing (Despite peace being declared, no one seems to have gotten that memo...) to rage on thats killed a few million.
Unless Ebola mutates in some way to become droplet transmitted or airbourne, it’s not a threat to humanity as a whole. If it does we are fucked, like, but let’s hope it doesn’t... it’s certainly not a valid comparison to COVID, in virulence, or lethality. Some strains of Ebola have a 90% kill rate. Corona is the other end - lower kill rate and uncontrolled spread. While Ebola should remain a pathogen that lurks in bats and occasionally spills over to humans (and thus stay lethal as), corona will perhaps become less virulent over time and become endemic.
I read a article the other day that they thing the 1890 Russian flu may actually have been a coronavirus. Will see if i can dig out the original paper later

If shit continues like this we're going to start missing the good ol days where you fought for toilet rolls and the police had to guard the pallets at Costco
