The Elder Scrolls

Hearing the first voice of the cheese one, I do wonder: is that legit British/Scottish/Irish accents? A part of me feels it's legit bad voice acting, another part says it's someone thinking it would be a good idea to use a voice that butchers a legit language. Also, Orsinium doesn't in Skyrim, right? Didn't it get destroyed after the events of Oblivion?
No It still exists in Skyrim. I don't believe they dont really explain how but its still there.

It was sacked in the early fourth era and relocated from the Wrothgarian Mountains to the Skyrim/Hammerfell border, they don't really say what did it in iirc.

Thanks for that. I bet Gortwog may as well be rolling in his grave since the Orsinium he had from Daggerfall to Oblivion is now dead. Speaking of Daggerfall, aside from me and a few other kiwi's, anyone here played the game or any of the other old TES games such as Arena or Battlespire?

I have played both Arena and Daggerfall. Arena I've only gotten past the first dungeon wheras with Daggerfall I got pretty far into the main quest til I got really annoyed at the draw distance and stopped playing.

It was also back when Morrowind came out there was a bit of a backlash toward "generic" fantasy settings. And by in large there still is. When your series isn't that well known you generally have to do something to stand out.

I remember even as far back as 2009 when Dragon Age Origins came out there was a huge backlash against the game. I knew players that didn't buy the game entirely because it looked generic, despite being an RPG they really enjoyed much later.

However once TES got enormously popular then they didn't have to try as hard. And just settled with common fantasy tropes everyone's used to like bandits, wolves and dragons because they're cool and familiar.

Battlespire is hands down one of the worst games I have ever played. The fact that it was so hard to get on top of being so awful just kind of added insult to injury to me.
idk if I would consider Skyrim to be generic fantasy tbh. I know a lot of people claim it is because it went with a nordic theme for its architecture and societies and had more realistic animals than fantastic ones, but the game is set in what amounts to a prehistoric ice-age kind of world with wooly mammoths and saber-tooth tigers. Those aren't exactly staples in ye olde fantasy lands. Even the wolves in Skyrim are more like dire wolves than any of the species that exist nowadays.

Also that person has never actually been to a place with active volcanoes if they think going from dense lush tropical forests to volcanic badlands isn't something that happens in the real world. The areas around volcanoes are notoriously fertile. I mean, just look at Hawaii.

I played Battlespire a few times and I can say it isn't friendly. Not only can you not rest, but you may as well be dead if you didn't pick the advantage of regenerating health and/or spell points. I will say I did like playing the game even if it is something of a downgrade or step back in some cases. In regards to worst game you ever played, I remember a YouTube video of Battlespire where the uploader said that he literally found the game in the trash.

As for volcano's, wouldn't mount St. Helens also count, considering the area around that volcano is a forest in the American Northwest within the state of Washington. Still, I do wonder if that guy might actually be pulling our leg and is fooling any that read it. Really though, the generic fantasy land sort of thing Oblivion had can be chalked up to the LOTR craze as mentioned by Michael Kirkbride.

I think that was the same guy who wanted to remove alot of Fantasy elements from Skyrim to make it "more realistic"
I could be wrong but it was also posted in those forums.
Anyways, here's something that happened when I installed some children mods.

If the guy wants to remove fantasy elements, may as well remove anything non-human. Khajiits and Argonians may as well go as well as any lore that doesn't have realism like: mention of different races that weren't human such as Imga and Argonian subsets.

That child mod, is that face a deformed Sean Connery?

Elder scrolls 6 should take place in a modern setting without magic or interesting monsters. You play as a usual blue-collar worker who has to balance work with family and get into silly misadventures with your neighbor bob, who has all sorts of whacky hobbies. You will be able to wander around town either walking old ladies across the street or robbing the local convenience store. If caught you have to play a courtroom minigame where you play as your own attourney. If you decided to be a redguard, however, you are shot on sight by the Police. High level armour will include things like kevlar vests or steel armor from skyrim found by robbing the ancient history museum as a hilarious easter egg. Since everyone is atheist in the future, Daedra and the 9 divines will not play a role in the game. beast races will have died 80 years ago in the lore during an event called the "anthrocaust", although some nordic people claim it didn't happen, leading to racial tension, which will play into the main story of the game.
the guilds will be replaced with the Institute of Technology and Various Gangs you can join in lieu of the thieves guild or dark brotherhood.

(Also, conventional weapons are illegal now, and skooma will land you several years in jail, although people are now petitioning to legalize it.)

To be honest, that would sound like a good game for the series if simply for a laugh. One thing you forgot to mention is how the elves would be treated. Dunmer may as well get the same treatment as Redguards simply because they as elves have the darkest skin-tone.

Now that you mention it, I feel Skyrim has not taken full advantage of the Norse theme. It's been a while but I'm sure there were a lot more fantastic monsters they could have been inspired by.

It's called Postal 2.

That's because it was based more on the 1982 Conan the Barbarian film than the actual Norse. The people at Bethesda have always kind of been fans of the film and you can see it in some of the other games in smaller amounts (the ebony broadsword in Morrowind is clearly modeled on the atlantean sword for instance), but with Skyrim they decided to go all out with it. There's a lot of bits in Skyrim where they've done things like put Ysgramor in what looks like a chinese knock off version of Thulsa Doom's armor that make me chuckle a bit when I see them.

I noticed stylistic influences with things like Game of Thrones. It's unsurprising given Bethesda was originally asked to create a Game of Thrones video game.

I've always wondered that if Bethesda remade Daggerfall, people would think it's a ripoff of Game of Thrones.

Bethesda remade Daggerfall

I'm 99.9% sure they'd never remake Daggerfall.

It's too ambitious of a title and one that would not work well with Bethesda's current design philosophy. Daggerfall is very much a "quantity over quality" game given how large it's world is and how most of the in game towns look similar to one another. It wouldn't work with Bethesda's hand crafted world philosophy they give to all of their post Morrowind games.

A re-release is also similarly unlikely. Since they lost Daggerfall's source code they'd have to rebuild a lot of it from scratch. And the fan community is already doing that themselves with Daggerfall Tools for Unity. I'm fairly certain the reason why they released Daggerfall and Arena for free is because they really have no options at all to do anything with them.
