My bus route to work would go by the program center, and was almost all black people riding. I know what you mean about the heartbreak. Seeing these "women" with their noses in their phones, pushing their free strollers, with kids drinking kool-aid in their bottles, all dolled up with big weaves and lashes, ignoring their kids entirely. Older kids watching over the babies. If they got squirmy or curious, the mom would just yank their wrists and hoist (slam) them onto the seats and yell at them to sit down and shut up. I've seen ONE black woman talking to her kids, teaching them counting using the countdown on the walk signal, teaching colors using cars passing by - until I realized she was a teacher bringing a small class downtown to see the ducks on the river or something. It's really fucked up.

Is there a clear consequence for being a bad mother in public? No? Then don’t expect them to take care of their kids. I have seen ”mothers” treat their kids like garbage unless one relative (usually a grandparent) was around to turn the tables in a heartbeat. Sometimes it isn’t just a father these kids are missing, but a society that refuses to give mothers, single or married, a “get out of jail motherhood free” card.
