It's a bit of all of the above. That being said, when these people grow older and "more conservative" it's not going to resemble anything like what we consider conservative now. We're already at the point where mainstream conservatism is very similar to 2008 liberalism.
That's because conservatism isn't traditionalism. Conservatism doesn't reject change, it just believes it should be implemented more gradually. That's why you see them become more mollified over time, whereas liberalism and socialism generally want change to happen right now.
In other lunacy, my wife has a friend who apologized for reading Lord of the Rings rather than black literature, and assured everyone that she has a list of black authors on her reading list. Sorry, I don't have pictures, it's on Instagram and I don't have an account.
