As others have touched on in this thread, the US unleashing the military at home would allow China to level Hong Kong protesters. I mean, the lives of millions of Americans living in the cities are on the line right now, but so is the future of the US (and the world, arguably), the Constitution, and other foreign happenings.

Now that I'm thinking about is, sending in the military en masse to the cities could likely put the Taliban agreement at risk, too, as the Trump administration would lose diplomatic credibility by having to resort to the use of the "real"military to deal with something the local police should have shut down on day one.

The best course of action really is to just let it burn out organically.

• Esper orders NG to carry no guns or ammo (wtf I thought they all left?)
• "Sources" say Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Milley had shouting match with Trump over troops clearing DC

It's not planned per se, but they have definitely been on the hunt for an incident they could get the shut-in mob riled up about. They knew people were getting antsy about the lockdown and going stir-crazy, so they looked at the situation as an opportunity. The case of the chased-down jogger went to hell after the exposure of the homeowner and co-defendant's lying to cover their asses (or got paid to lie) so scratch that. Then the woman in the NY park who had to deal with that black man telling her "I'm gonna do what I want and you wont' like it," which is not good optics so scratch that.
