Greg and Lainey are both currently being investigated by the FBI. A lot of people don't realize just how fucked someone is once they've brought on the attention of the FBI. I've posted statistics regarding federal investigations enough, so I won't be an autist and post them more. But the numbers show that Greg and Lainey are exponentially more likely to end up in prison at the end of this.
The laptop of Sarah's is just a tiny fraction of the evidence I believe the FBI is gathering against them. The types of federal crimes they are both being investigated for do not have statues of limitation. For that reason, federal investigators have no reason to hurry through any of this. They can use it to their advantage to gather every bit of evidence out there. Another important thing to keep in mind is that the federal age of consent is always 18.
I don't doubt that the FBI will undoubtedly have more resources at their disposal than Sarah, Billie, Shiloh, and Skye among others have access to. I also don't doubt that any ongoing investigation by the FBI on Onision will have a much deeper impact on Onision than anything we can muster publicly. Still, any fruitful investigation on Onision and Kai may very well take months or even years to actually be successful.
The problem here is that Greg has now had the time to actually go on full lockdown mode by hiding behind his 18+ OnlyFans shtick. That initial burst of momentum is pivotal in any investigation, especially considering how much can change in as little as 48 hours. We're talking about months, potentially years worth of firsthand evidence potentially being wiped from Greg's social media at this point in time. To my knowledge, internet archives have yet to be used in a criminal trial so it's up in the air as to whether or not they'll be admissible in court.
On top of this, the laptop itself supposedly had actual evidence of child pornography on it. It's a tiny fraction of evidence compared to the grander scope of what we have to work with but CP alone is an extremely damning piece of evidence that almost always gets the jury to unanimously convict a person. Even if there wasn't CP on the laptop, I'm sure Kai was stupid enough to leave her login info on most of her accounts so there's a whole treasure trove of potential evidence that may very well be rendered inadmissible.
Vince's meddling with the laptop can allow for any competent criminal defense attorney to argue that the laptop was tampered with since there was 2-3 months where its location and authenticity couldn't be accounted for. For all the jury knows, maybe Vince did swap the hard drive out. The FBI can run forensics on it, but the question of inadmissibility is still there. With these types of investigations, you cannot afford to let your opponent get the first inch and Vince almost definitely gave Onision's defense team a possible yard of safety.
But let's move away from the question of the laptop. There's still other questions we need to ask here. If the FBI is conducting an investigation for statutory rape, does Shiloh (and by extension, Billie and Sarah) still have the actual phone that Greg was contacting her on? Is there still tangible proof on Messenger, iMessage, and so on that Greg was grooming and possibly arranging for sex with these young girls? Apple already refused to comply with an FBI investigation on the San Bernadino shooter, so any potential investigation on chat logs won't go anywhere unless they have the original devices with unabridged proof of Onision's deviancy.
As for any potential cases of actual child abuse for Greg and Kai's kids, well... they don't have a lot to go off of because Greg and Kai made the smart decision to not post the minutiae of their kids' lives on social media.
As far as I'm aware, neither child is old enough at this point in time to attend any type of school, so it's not like we have any witnesses to maladapted behaviour like teachers or faculty to fall back on. There's stuff that inadvertently slipped like Kai's mukbang video where Greg can be heard shouting at one of his kids. There's matters of public record like Greg's daughter falling from a 2-story window and splitting her head open. But if the FBI really wants to approach the child abuse angle, they'll need a
lot more to actually reach the steepest burdens of proof required by "beyond a reasonable doubt."
Greg and Kai are universally scummy people, but Greg's own tendencies to skirt around the law whenever he can have basically made it so that he'll most likely be a free man for the time being. Kai may very well end up in jail over Onision simply because Kai wasn't anywhere near as meticulous as Greg is when it comes down to these sorts of things.
EDIT: apparently Troy is old enough to attend school and there have been CPS reports filed on his behalf by concerned faculty
