I mean, it wouldn't matter. It probably says on that monument, in big ass font, that they were the first all black regiment. They don't care. Its just a big "Official" thing to spraypaint.

Like, the general level of discourse with these guys is basically just "Fuck the man!". Its a very hot topic teenage angst level of thinking. Its not targeted at anything specific (unless they're repeating muh buzzwords), just against the vague and nebulous force of "The Man" who is the source of all problems. Sometimes Trump is the avatar of "The man" sometimes the statue of some old white guy is "The Man", sometimes the cops are "The Man" and now a random government adjacent structure is the man.

its almost religious in the way they think.

I guess Vox's take was that George Weiss' attempt to impose white Christian morality on them was rightly rejected by their black spirits, and that's why we need to have the gibs be "distributed" by black "community leaders"?

Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised. Vox's take was relatively sane, without any "Because whitey is trying to make the black man live in his way of life, serving his system, and the black man rebels against it, as he should!" horseshit.

When you charge a group with eliminating an evil that’s really hard to eliminate, they typically end up mildly tweaking the evil into a form that benefits them, then devote most of their energy to punishing people who complain.

That practical knowledge that marks you as an animal, and something you have to pretend to cut away from yourself to be pure again. Of course you can never cut deep enough, but you can point it out in others to alleviate your sense of guilt.
