Actually not 100% wrong. Due to random chromosomal exchange some pups would have both diseases, true. But the thing is creatures like humans or dogs have multiple children, or litters, and some offspring would have none of the diseases. These offspring would live longer than their siblings and thus have a better chance of reproducing. Ergo, crossbreeding eliminates undesirable traits via natural selection.
