I've known these things for a long time, but it took your post for me to put two and two together.
> Alex has a Samus boob mousepad
> Alex lives with his parents

His parents know. They must absolutely know. The man has no shame, he doesn't even try to hide his power level.
That's the extra reason to think that he was that guy with Samus doll.

Honestly I really hope you're right. But like someone said earlier, people have spent money on shadier stuff. Here's hoping that a majority of the fanbase is indeed too young to even be able to spend that money. Though given how his patron looks who really knows.
It's seriously concerning how many parents don't pay attention to what their kids are into. Or even if they are how many don't seem to care.
Yes, but as I've said before, he can throw his own money to save face. After all, he wastes them on shit like salty bet and old subreddit. If you recall that guy with visual novel that I've mentioned many pages ago, he too had Kickscam and it was very suspicious. For the most of the 30 day period his campaign wasn't doing very well, but then suddenly had big donations that finally pushed it to the goal. His post after that also wasn't something like "thank you all for your support", but but more like "suck on this haters".

I had no idea the level of horrible puns Alex would stoop to until I heard of Mai Waifu

TL;DR - it's not final, therefore you can't critique it.

So first it's that the code isn't bad, now it's that the code is supposed to be bad. Why would you even write shitty code that you'll have to throw out later when you could write code that can be reused afterwards? In fact, there are many times where Alex uses if-else statements when it would actually be easier to write proper code, so you can't say that this was done out of convenience. What a shitty liar.

Stupidity seems to be the most likely explanation.
What else do you expect from someone who has spent six years playing around on a glorified proof of concept and now hopes to secure funding to hire a group of people that'll start by throwing out just about everything he's spent the last six years doing?

I expect an apology for his crimes against programming, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

"Mai waifu" has been a weeb meme since early 00's, so it's not even his original bad pun.

"The current code was never intended to be in the final retail version of the game."
Alex, bitch, you said in the very video you're linking to:
"No matter what the outcome of the campaign is, development will continue using the V-slice as a base for the rest of the game.
Potentially, some of the core systems will have to be rewritten so that the code is as clean and efficient as possible.
However, it's not as though we'll have to start from scratch and remake the entire game."
So stop your bullshit.

(Also, I doubt he'd be able to afford to replace all the spaghetti anyway.)

You know...considering code is literally the thing that makes games work in the first place, you'd think finding a programmer who is actually good at it would be the first goal. A demo is just supposed to get the idea across. Honestly things like modelers and animators could come after the Kickstarter to make the game look good as well as be fun to play.

Six years working on a vertical slice is fucking nuts to begin with, but putting in tons of NPCs and Easter eggs and then saying “Oh, this is just a proof-of-concept” is either completely moronic, or the worst attempt at a lie I’ve ever seen.
At this point, I'm starting to think he genuinely believes this shit

Didn't some TinyBuild employee help him out in refactoring of the code but Alex sperged out because he couldn't make any more updates to it? How am I supposed to trust him that the code won't be final and the hired programmer would actually help refactor the code in the end given that Alex has a rather poor relationship with volunteers in general?

If Alex were to hold that crowdfunding campaign it should way far earlier and have all the other features to be added as free updates or DLC or built into the final game so that at least Alex's weaknesses can be solved, not delaying because you want to add shit like maids (?) or Alphabet Challenge or like a ton of "easter eggs" (which aren't even easter eggs in the first place) you would later not implement in the final game.

And what happens if that crowdfunding campaign is unsuccessful? That current code which people "wasted their time" over is gonna be in the final game anyway.

Besides personally, Alex's shitty behavior is the main issue rather than his programming skills. If Alex is bad at programming but not a terrible person especially in the time management aspect he'd at least know what the priorities are for the game and would actually strike the iron while it's hot. If Alex is still the shitty person he is today but with significantly better programming skills, I won't be surprised if Osana would still not be even released either despite the sandbox would be much better polished but would be crammed with more unnecessary features for the sake of it.

If you still are working on a game for 6 years whether you are a good programmer or not and working off a dwindling Patreon income (+ other shit like YouTube or Twitch) and have that as your main job (even Alex says himself it's a job) there's just something wrong with you.

Alex would never allow someone else to improve his code, much less throw out the calcified layers of bad decisions and do it properly. He's way too much of a sperg and definitely emotionally attached to his codebase. You'd have to pry him off it with a crowbar.

I'd love to see the fallout when he tries to work in a collaborative environment though. He'd just force-push everything and clobber everyone else's changes because he's too much of a 'tard to understand Git.

Presuming that Alex actually believes his "we will hire a better programmer for the final game" bullshit, what's the logic behind this? Allegedly he spends 12 hours a day, seven days a week coding and programming the game because he by his own admission wants the first rival to be an experience representative of the final product. But how can you do this when the final product will be programmed by a completely different person? It is by definition not going to be representative unless Alex becomes the lead programmer, but if he's the lead programmer that undermines the whole "I'm not good enough to do this so I'm going to step back and let others handle this" that hiring someone else to improve the coding presupposes.

I’m gonna play a devils advocate, but representation of gaming experience is a work of a game designer, not a programmer.

The only time I could see that being an acceptable amount of dev time is if he was developing a brand new engine or something...
But then I remember that the first ever microprocessor, which demanded a new language being developed, only took 2 years to develop and 1 of those years was spent waiting for the visa of the lead engineer

I don't understand what his idea of a demo actually is but everyone knows exactly what the game is going to be - it's a fine demo in it's current state. Why the hell would he waste time continuing to program in a codebase that's going to need a complete rework anyway ? I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was just incompetent but since he's going to run a kickstarter anyway it's just confirmation he's getting as much money out of his audience as possible.
