seriously though, I don’t know. A group of very unpleasant people has had a couple of decades to infiltrate schools, the media and academia, and we have social media and tech racing ahead so fast that humanity’s social ability to cope with it isn’t keeping up. We have mass immigration, vast inequality, and cultures forced together who just do not like each other. Plus hostile actors domestic and foreign formenting dissent. Then add in a black swan event like corona and the mental health strain of keeping people isolated, the tank the economy... i honestly think we are going somewhere pretty bad for a few years.
When you look back through history, things like inequality of wealth, mass movement and ecological stressors are key events that align with huge social upheaval. I would say there’s nothing new under the sun, except I think that the social media aspect is something genuinely novel for us. For me the question is how bad the push and pushback will be.
Anyway, I don’t know, but I’ll feel smug clutching my fiver in the burnt out ruins of civilisation.

Social media is an incredibly dangerous and unpredictable element for a few reasons probably obvious. Let's take an example of the doxing that has been happening:

-Instant dopamine for small effort
-Gives a cure to the need to feel like they are being a good person
-Disconnect from real-world effects of actions (Done from behind screen, may not seem "real" to ruin someone's life)
-Many doing this behavior are also young and won't understand long-term effects of their action. They are so high on gaining social
media validation that in the moment it seems most important. Adults are encouraging the behavior. Children who dox their parents for example are not mature enough to realize the consequence that they will lose everything if their parent loses their job. Adults online encourage this. They are using the children and will do nothing for them when they become on the streets because of what they encourage.
-Echo chambers increase mob mentality
-Biased owners of social media platforms- inconsistent bans of people leading to lack of challenging of ideas- allows radical ideas to grow
-Additionally social media has conditioned young people to have a shorter attention span and smaller critical thinking skill
-read thing -> repeat thing -> get approval and validation -> get dopamine -> everyone agrees so I must be right, the few people who disagree are [-ist/-phobic of choice here] -> I am right I am being encouraged -> feels better about self, bigger ego
-It is a cycle that feeds on itself
-If you try to get out or express unaccepted opinion you can become the target so that someone can get a validation

I feel two other large factors are allowing the above to happen:
1- Glorifying communism by many schools and media
2- Focus on self and identity as crucial part of self
3- Less stable family life -> need for validation -> looking for validation online from people who often grow the divide between the child and the parents further

TL;DR
Do not allow children to have social media. They are young, impressionable and being used.
Stop glorifying communism. Teach about the gulags and deaths caused by communism.

St THomas and Guy's hospital is pulling down a statue of Thomas Guy, a philanthropist who founded hospitals, libraries, and alms houses, because he owned government debt, which was turned into shares in the south sea company that he later sold for a profit. He never chose to invest and got out before the company began profiting from slavery. That tiny, tangential connection is enough to see his legacy tarnished forever. They'd have more justification pulling down Churchill than this guy.

They're also pulling down a statue of Robert Clayton, who had literally nothing at all to do with slavery as far as I can tell, beyond being an investment banker at an institution that invested in things that might have included slave traders. His statue is grade I listed, which means it can't be demolished without permission from the local authority, but they're doing it anyway because fuck old dead white guys I guess.

Are the statues going to be kept safely somewhere or are they just going to be destroyed? I don't want them pulled down in general but full on destruction would be worse.

Her boyfriend thought they were being robbed and understandably grabbed a weapon and fired at the police, while she got shot 8 times in the cross fire.

Belly Mujinga was an unfortunate case where she was a public transport worker and died of COVID 19. This occurred shortly after her and a colleague got spat on by someone claiming to have COVID 19. However, the man in question was tested for COVID 19 anti-bodies and it came up negative - so while the situation is obviously tragic, I fail to see what justice they are seeking?

The biggest irony of melting pot cities is that they're not actually melting pots: they're segregated communes. Sure, some cities can achieve that state of "multiculturalism" but the oh so colorful people there wouldn't be distinguishable from a white person if you couldn't see them. Many beaners don't learn English because they don't need to, working in Mexicanated portions of the city and white people being exceptionally tolerant for their ignorance. This eventually causes unrest as the segregated beaner or nigger community has no connection to the majority of Americans.

Niggers could've integrated so goddamn well at some point but they got caught up in MUH SLAVERY, GIBS ME DAT, and KEEPIN IT REAL that they just stayed niggers instead of actual productive people. What I read on the Breonna Taylor case was that the suspects they were mainly after had been seen coming and going from her property a few times and may have been using her mailbox for transporting things. It's a common tactic in drug running to use someone else's mail or home as a temporary drop off point. Her boyfriend also coincidentally had the same last name as one of their main suspects but I never followed up to see if they were connected. What happened to her was a terrible tragedy, but I understand why it happened. If it was a stash house, announcing yourself gives time to flush or destroy evidence. Edit: Her boyfriend also shot first and actually hit a cop which is what prompted the hail of bullets.

From what I can see the only threat was that a group of dumpy white men would crowd around war memorials/monuments and would actively defend them from any protester who wished to deface them. Given the police are taking the view that preventing such acts would see an escalation in violence, this is something that will only increase.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else in the thread, but I noticed this too and thought I'd get some opinions on the matter.

Were the people who picked Floyd up in the ambulance even EMTs? They didn't try to resuscitate, perform CPR, or anything at all. One of them grabbed his head and they shuffled him away as quickly as they could. Not to mention they're wearing body armor and appear to be state police. Unless EMTs and paramedics in Minneapolis abide by different standards when it comes to uniform and procedures it looks like a group of state police came out of that ambulance with no paramedics in sight. Plus it looks like they're wearing all your standard state police gear on their belts, including weapons. Attached is the subpar video I stumbled upon that lead me to rethink what I saw.

Paramedics is most major North American cities wear armor, and have for most of a decade.

Also, a common trend for Paramedics for even longer has been to use an old style double handcuff case (and sometimes two) to carry med gloves in.
