This gambling machine app is (was) likely Phil’s only outlet for his pent up frustrations. No friends that aren’t virtual bootlicks / children / disabled, an autistic wife too immersed in her own virtual worlds to give a fuck about her IRL husband, no physical outlets apart from occasionally stirring sugar-laden spaghetti sauce or pushing a shopping cart around Fred Meyer, no creative outlets except playing video games on cruise control difficulty, no intellectual pursuits apart from bitching on Twitter. Maybe he finds solace at the bottom of a bottle of gin. I honestly don’t know what else he could have.
I like that he's lying with the exact same soft admission about his mobile game addiction as he does about his alcoholism by openly admitting it used to be a huge problem for him but he certainly learned his lesson and doesn't engage in that behavior EVER anymore, well okay he still does but not in a problematic way so leave him alone okaaaay?

"I hardly ever drink every single night anymore." -alcohol
"I haven't played ANY mobile game in a major way since my girlfriend moved in." -P2W mobile gambling
"I used to drink a TON every single day, you guys saw. It was a huge problem. Yes, I do still occasionally have a few drinks, but I don't drink like that anymore. I know what to look out for now." -alcohol
"I used to play a TON of mobile games, it was actually a huge problem and I spent WAAAY too much on them. Yes, I do still play some mobile games, but nothing at all like that. I know what to look out for now." -P2W mobile gambling

This is actually classic addict behavior where they claim to have broken their addiction, and in fact are experts on addiction now so it's impossible they would behave like that again thank you very much. They always have an excuse why the relapse wasn't their fault. They always claim that they are in control now so their current use is just fine you simpering pussy. YOU may be that weak but they are much stronger now. Because Phil can stop paying for more sweaty muscle-men roulette-wheel tug-jobs when he decides he doesn't want to spend anymore money he is fully in control, and his expertise on the game means he can't lose control.

Addiction causes changes in the brain that effect behavior. https://www.therecoveryvillage.com/drug-addiction/cycle-of-addiction/
Phil has followed a classic addiction cycle when it comes to mobile games.
  • Initial Use - In the early 2010's Phil would talk about how he started to play "these fun mobile games" on his I-pad.
  • Continued Use/Abuse - He then talked about how he had started to play them for hours every single day, and he justified spending $20 to a few hundred on them at a time because they were fun and free.
  • Tolerance - Over the years Phil had begun playing several different P2W mobile games concurrently and this led into ->
  • Addiction - A look at his WWE Supercard days shows him spending thousands and thousands on this game, the embarrassment of having his addiction exposed, lying about quitting the game, and later openly admitting he was "insanely addicted to it."
  • Withdrawal - Listen to the video below for Phil's feelings after stopping WWE Supercard. He describes missing these "fun mobile games" he used to play and wanting one that would sate him. He hoped Hearthstone could be his new addiction game.
  • Relapse - That's where we are now with Phil sinking $40K+ into WWE Champions in the last 2 years.

From 2014 to 2019 Phil racked up $130K in credit card debt and like $20K in tax debt. That's an average of $30K per year his debt was increasing by :stress:

"I was sitting around with Leanna, MY GIRLFRIEND, one night watching a movie and I was like 'I'm kind of bored, I remember I used to play these games' and I wondered if there's anything out there, and then I remembered 'WAIT A MINUTE! Wasn't there a game that came out from Blizzard that's like INCREDIBLY eff'ing pahpular? Oh yeah, it's called Hearthstone!' So I downloaded it immediately to try it out, and played it for a few hours that night."
He's sitting on his couch with his 20 year old girlfriend and he would rather be tapping his phone than tapping dat ass :story:

This WWE Champions arc is the gift that keeps on giving. Every time it's declared dead and buried it rises bigger and better than before.

While I have no sympathy for Phil, in a way, this type of addiction is harder to break than drugs or alcohol only because life circumstances don't force you to quit. You don't get arrested for drunk driving, or lose your job, home, family, friends, etc. He even has the perfect job for it as he gets paid frequently in a way that he can funnel right to WWE Champions and a wife not mentally capable of understanding what's going on. The only thing that could have stopped Phil was running out of money and he somehow got awarded bankruptcy too! Sounds perfect, but it's just digging a hole deeper and deeper with nothing at the bottom.

So someday Phil can look back and realize he spent the average person's yearly (or two, or three years) salary for....clout in groups of people that don't want him around because he's toxic.

the bankruptcy was a “life circumstance”

Game devs usually have a secret guild for the kewl kids. It's Phil, he could probably get in that.
I doubt any scopely employees actually play WWE Champions, that would be like casino managers playing the slot machines all day after their shift

Phil saying how dumb it is to spend money on mobile games and how he doesn't play them reminds me of the old Connecticut condo videos where he says he used to have credit card debt and isn't dumb enough to put everything on credit cards anymore.

He uses that to try to throw off the trail. He probably is thinking to hisself. ACKACKACK they'll never suspect I'm whaling on this game if I openly come out against it and constantly say how whaling is st00pid. And his paypigs and even a few people here buy it and admittedly it is an understandable tactic. The problem is NotPhil does the exact same thing, railing on and on about how whaling is dumb while he dumps another thousand on the latest Hulk jpeg. Which makes it more not less obvious that the two are one in the same.

This reminds me of the other week when he was saying how he has to leave the rape song on his pre stream music to remind him of his past so he doesn’t forget and make the same mistakes. A man who has gone into massive credit card debt two separate times in his life is telling people the value or not repeating past mistakes.....

My fucking sides, I can't even.

He's gotta be having the world's biggest bitchfit in private. The detractors have indeed made him quite tahxic, and it's a joy to behold.

Hey Phil, if you're reading this, this is just a preview of what's gonna happen if and when you ever try to or are forced to get a real big boy job. You better hope that tard-fueled Twitch tugboat can stay afloat for the foreseeable future. When (not if) it goes down eventually, you have no life preserver and the detractors will be watching the flaming wreck, composing songs about it that the Edmund Fitzgerald would be jealous of.
Broke DSP saga is going to be interesting for sure. Very few places would hire him and he would get chased away from whatever minimum wage job he managed to get within the first month or 2 tops.

He'd probably rather sell a kidney than get a job though so i dont think were going to see him searching for a job until his cash cow is completely dry

You make a fair point considering Phil's nefariously low T levels and Leanna's oft-quoted woes about not getting any action from Phil (thank the Gods). However I'd just like to point out that couples can, in fact, sit there doing nothing , just enjoying each other's company, saying very little even. Being able to do so is actually a good sign.
