I think the main downfall of the site has been the rise of the "ironic racist" character people keep playing. It's been said a million times before, but I'm gonna say it again because I want it to come personally and sincerely.

Thank you Null for everything you've done. When the Internet went crazy last decade I was surrounded by several "do as we say or we'll ruin you" types. I too wanted to please others, so it drove me mad when I disagreed with a bunch of their rhetoric. Coming here was a blessing, as I could vent my frustrations with "my own kinds" while not being ousted as some Twitter super villain.

That was in 2015, and over the past five years everything has gone to the hounds. The site has become a weapon to some and a shield to others, losing what I felt was its original intention of just being a mecca of being able to say what you wanna say without getting ended for it. Everything is madness these days, and finding a peaceful retreat from it all is nigh impossible even offline.

You've stuck your neck out so far to give us this place, and for that I, and several others, are forever grateful. However this should not be the one thing you get out of your life. If it is deteriorating your standard of living (and it is from what I see), let it go and seek out what you desire. There's a woman out there for you who'd love to pop out little Joshlets for you. There's always a way to work back up into a career. Empires always fall.

What I'm saying is I admire you as an administrator and a person, and just want to see you live a good life after all you've done for your fellow shitposters. Semper Fidelis, Dear Leader.

As someone who just hit thirty in the last year or so, I feel you on the family front. People always talk about women having a biological clock but men are the same. Passing on DNA is the purest form of creating a legacy and implanting some kind of effect on a world you can't control. I'm already married though, so even if I can understand your desire, I can also imagine that it must be harder for you.

That's why my advice to you, even though you probably don't even know who I am, is simply to be selfish. If politics are dragging the forum down a road it was never intended to go, then get rid of the politics. Since everyone one else who remembers the original purpose is gone, you alone understand what this forum was created for. Exercise that knowledge. There is certainly a fine line between "cynical bastard" and "cynical, heartless bastard". I'd say the purpose of the farms has always been to laugh and to learn, and as more and more lolcows have made themselves known, and the definitions have been refined over the years, the end result has caused those who come to stay and participate to refine themselves, at least a little bit.

It's my opinion that you've made the world at least a little brighter, Null - even if that wasn't your intention.

I've been on iterations of this forum for years and years--since the Cogsdev days--and I'm a couple of years older than you, Dear Leader. From my point of view, having one site dedicated wholly to free speech has been a tremendous relief. You never realize just how much time you spend pent up and politely lying through your teeth until you have the chance to say what you really think without fear of losing your job or being attacked by an outrage mob. And seeing as the world's recently decided free speech and free opinion are verboten, I count KF one of the last places where I can visit to actually see discussion.

That being said ... we can't have KF kill you. You've put so much of yourself and your life into this, and lost a lot for the sake of our free speech. The jobs we could've lost and the attacks we could've suffered have all been taken by you.

At the very least, you need a large stable of reliable seconds-in-command and a long vacation.

And KF has gotten HUGE. It might be time to do as the Romans did and split up the empire. Let the politics and current events go elsewhere and focus on the pure lolcow experience, with the Beauty Parlor and similar subforums taking prime position.

If it's time to close down, I know a lot of us will miss this. And I daresay there'll be an exodus to successor forums set up by the other old-timers. But if you need to stop for the sake of your health, sanity, and family, then this long-time Kiwi wishes you well.

I know this is sappy, but you're one of my heroes, Null. In my mind, there are two things that are the keys to goodness and justice. Those things are freedom of expression and humor. The fact that you've kept this hellsite running all these years so we can say what we want and laugh how we want is invaluable. I have some ideas for how you can keep this place alive while also keeping yourself happy and sane.

1: Hire more mods, take a break for a little while. Download Russian Tinder or some shit while you're at it, see if you can get back into the dating game.
2: PUT ARTICLES AND NEWS BEHIND AN ACCOUNT AGE OR REACTION SCORE THRESHOLD. I think A&N can be a blast, but the fact that 80% of regular A&N users are conspiracy theorist /pol/tards is not only annoying, but cancerous to the site. They like to spread their retard tendrils to the rest of the site and I consider them the single most damaging factor to the site's culture over the years. I repeat: keep A&N locked away behind some degree of barrier. All the registration restriction did was make retards make accounts and shit up the site even more.

Trust me Null, I miss the cliquey days when the user base was small, didn't care about politics, and all we wanted to do was talk shit about freaks and make each other laugh. Like I said, NOTHING is more important than being able to speak freely and laugh freely. I may be a 2015 user, but I'd like to think I got to experience some golden eras of the Farms. I think there are some golden eras ahead of us, too, if you play your cards right, but i think you also need to find yourself a girl and chill. You've done a lot for us over the years, boss.
