I agree with that sentiment. The fight for free speech has indeed become a fight against the windmills. This (and other issues) will only get worse with each new US administration until the federal government runs out of money.
I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on how to run this forum or even your life. Whether you want to reshape the Farms and change its culture to make it fun again, or you decide to shut the site down for good or give it to someone else or whatever, it's for you to decide. The ultimate question you should be asking yourself is the same as it was in the past and as it is now: How much is the Kiwi Farms worth to you and eventually how much shit are you willing to eat for it?

I kind of agree tbh. When I came here during the glory days of Jace, the site was in general pretty light-hearted and fun, and this seems to have mutated into edgelord-y political nonsense.
This, however, just makes me think of "Current Something Awful, but Right Wing", which is a horrifying and nauseating thought.
I don't really know what my point is, other than I feel you and hope that whatever you decide to do, you can find a sense of tranquility as a result.

I’m not even An Old and I agree with this wholeheartedly.
Anyway, I’m with most of the others in saying maybe a hiatus is in order for you. This place definitely isn’t what it used to be (although I still enjoy it) in part because of the publicity + the political direction things have taken, for sure, and you sound really burnt out.
I do want to address the family thing, though. Wanting to marry and have kids is healthy and normal, don’t get me wrong, but it sounds to me that what you might be looking for atm is normalcy and stability more than anything right now. Not that a spouse and kids can’t be part of that, but I’d urge you not to jump the gun on something so life-changing so quickly.
(fwiw also I firmly believe the nuclear family is a mostly 20th century invention and that family is also made in extended family and in community, so take that for what it’s worth from this armchair-historian dyke who comes from a much stronger extended family/community culture than a lot of what you see in America/the media. shrug)

As for the site being too big, the site traffic spikes when something heavy with politics hits, so that answers its own questions. You lament the site getting too big, but you have done everything in your power to try and grow the userbase. Making it kinda fucking retarded now to whine about it now. You didnt bother whatsoever to analyze the people coming in, you just opened the border. Its very amusing that you shit on Europe for doing the exact same thing you did with your site. Your staff told you, your old users told you, even your newer users told you. It was an outcome you could see from miles away even after having your eyes exploded.

My only wish is that I came to this place sooner. I consider the farms the last bastion of the old internet where people consolidated in public forums and constantly talked shit instead of today where they hide in discord safespaces.

I believe you can help with pushing for lolcows who are just funny by just talking about them more, I started listening to your livestreams consistently because I loved your episode on Deagle Nation. All of the episodes of your podcasts where you go over a single lolcow for it's duration are amazing. Maybe also reward users for making memes and well-made videos on lolcows. I do feel like you can structure this website to encourage talk of the more non-political lolcows and elevate them over threads of people just shitting on people because they don't agree with them politically. Now I engage in those threads, I engage in them because I feel like it's the only place on the internet I can talk about those people without either getting banned or lynch-mobbed by retards but I would not mind at all if you took measures that pushed that more into 9chan. The only reason I don't use 9chan all that often is due to low levels of activity I actually care about but find a way to get the threads on political pundits over there in an organized way and I probably wouldn't bother talking about them here as much unless just to archive stuff. I don't know how to run a website, everything I just said could seem completely retarded to you, I don't know but I'd like for you to start having fun again for the good of the site.

I joined the forums during the start of the Corona pandemic. I had been lurking the DSP subforum for years before that, but never saw fit to join beforehand. I had nothing to add.
My first posts were to post and translate articles and information from the first countries effected. It was extremely hard to get the information out of Wechat and QQ to any place on the internet. It would be banned almost straight away when posted elsewhere. This was the only place where people could access the information me and other posters would translate.
This site has helped a lot of people. In this situation and countless others I am grateful for the sites existence. It has entertained me further after the outbreak of the virus and I hope it continues to do so.
