I'm getting too old for this shit.

In the two years I've been a member of the site, and the two years I just lurked, it's been simultaneously a fascination and a haven of mine. I loved (and still do) the community that was built around laughing at idiots on the internet. That being said, even though I joined well after the heyday, I noticed changes in the site. Some I liked, some I didn't. People I recognised as mainstays left, and new people joined. Cows I enjoyed died (some literally), and new ones took their place.

Regardless, I've always had a deep respect for Null. It's astonishingly rare to see someone unabashedly tell people to fuck off when they try and control what you can and can't say, and it can't have been easy weathering the numerous, petty retaliations of people who've never been told no. So it's no surprise to me that you've worn down.

As much as it pains me to say it, the Farms aren't worth it. If your idea of happiness takes you on a path that doesn't include the Farms, then keeping it around is only going to make you resentful. Step back, take a break from the site for a while. You're never going to come to a rational decision if you're still actively involved. Either fondness or exhaustion is going to cloud your decision.
As much as I love this site, I don't think it's worth sacrificing yourself over.

I can't in good conscience expect someone to fuck themselves over specifically to allow retards like me to laugh at other retards on the internet.

Take a break, Josh. Step back and delegate more of the workload if it starts taking too much of a toll on you. If worst comes to worst, closing down the forums isn't the worst thing to happen.

Other people have said it but getting out in your local community will dimish your depression if only a bit. Wanting a family to carry on your life without you is a good goal but your mental health is far more important than marrying sooner and burning out from that to. I'd suggest something but other people have done it several times over. Move away from this site and spend some time in your neighborhood to work on taking down your depression. Spend more time posting on here and getting to know new people rather lording over the site. Have the mods and supervisors here pick up the slack so you can focus on fixing your mental health. If you really are serious about making 9-chan a rebirth of what KF used to be, might I suggest taking it slowly and talking with many different people who know about imageboards and their various flaws rather than shot-gunning it. Finally and this bears repeating, take a break from managing this site apart from posting, take a long break maybe even a year long so you can do a bit of soul searching and find yourself. I did it for myself and it has seen me through a couple of key milestones like getting done with college, feeling much happier with less depressive episodes and may even lead to employment after I decided I didn't want part of a different website since it and associated drama was taking over my life

Maybe split the politics and e-celeb parts of the forum off into their own separate sites. Not a subforum but a totally different place. Like political farms and e-kiwis. That would sift out the people you dislike and give the cow-era a chance to regenerate since it'd become the sites only purpose again. Or force them over to 9chan by giving them new boards to post on and closing the ones here.

I'm truly sorry, for what I never did
But I forgive you, too; for your indifference
You were a lonely child, laid open to the world
And when I looked in your eyes, I saw myself there too
So please forgive me now, for what we never had
Although it's useless to say - I wish you happines

I have a buddy of mine IRL who's a real tinfoil-hatter. Older fellow. I once tried showing him my Minecraft builds, many years ago, at the height of that particular fad. He gave me this disappointed look and said "It's not real". I didn't understand at all. I was so fully committed to the virtual world, buildings made out of voxels were as real to me as ones made out of wood, or concrete, or bricks. In my head, there was no distinction between the virtual and the real. Virtual worlds were, from my point of view, natural extensions of real spaces, as autistic as that might sound. This guy sat me down, and he explained to me how the powers-that-be want people anesthetized to their worsening conditions of life. How they want people investing themselves in virtual hobbies as a substitute for real ones, and meanwhile, our real space is shrinking, with people living in apartments comparable to prison cells.

He asked me which I'd rather have; real acreage with my own garden, or a fake virtual greenhouse with fake, inedible plants. He asked me if I wanted imaginary achievements or real achievements, fake skills or real skills. I thought his argument sounded like the most Boomer thing I'd ever heard, at the time. It struck me as rather backwards. After all, a virtual environment is more environmentally-friendly than taking over actual space to realize one's ambitions. You don't have to disrupt any ecosystems or despoil any pristine land when you build a virtual LEGO castle. I had, since long ago, drank the VR kool-aid. I thought we were all going to be wearing augmented-reality goggles and drawing graffiti on everything and checking out other people's art installations with our GPS-enabled phones.

But now, I'm starting to see it. I'm starting to see just how much we've been denied.
That's the problem with the Internet. It's become an omnipresent hellscape that exists in parallel with our universe, as opposed to a cordoned-off amusement gallery. No escape from real life anymore.

I never really thought I’d feel like an oldfag on kiwifarms, but I suppose I am one now compared to a lot of newer users. I know some other people have said this, but I really only follow deathfat threads now, mostly because they remind me of the lolcows I joined the site to follow. You can only read so many threads about some evil tranny pedo before the all just become the same thing day in and day out. I guess I’m trying to say that it feels like a lot of what made it fun a few years ago has been lost.
That being said I really do hope Kiwifarms keeps going, it’s really the only website I even browse anymore and it’d be shitty if it wasn’t around.

While part of me is sad that the best online community in Internet history is on the decline and may die one day, a bigger part of me is glad you're moving on.

I always say you deserve blessings, and I mean it. You need to find a hot slav wife who still puts on makeup and shaves her armpits and dresses up just to go to the grocery store (that's all of them), make sure she genuinely loves you and doesn't just want a US visa, and then bend her over and pump her full of coom. Parenthood is the ultimate adventure, and you can't be expected to sacrifice that just to give us a digital pub where we can make fun of retards.

Your work ethic and dedication in running this site give me no doubt that you'd be a great husbando and father, so stop putting that off.

The biblical definition of love is a commitment to sacrifice yourself for the betterment of others. You've sacrificed so much for us. We love you, dude. Genuinely. Get rid of us whenever you need to, even today, if it means you can move on with your life and have things that bring you real joy.

And if you ever need to fly home to this first-world shithole to handle some business, and you need a place to stay rent-free in Appalachia, my guest room and high-speed internet are yours as long as you need.

I'm sorry we couldn't give back more of what you've given us. I'll be here until whatever fate you decide for the Farms.

I'm here every day, came back after the hack last year, but your health and well being take priority over my favorite sperging place. Be well bb. It's OK to be selfish sometimes. Maybe take a break?

People don't want to be gay and say it, but we love you.

Get out while you can, man. Take a normal job and focus on your own wellbeing. You're not a bad looking guy and you've got a great sense of humor - you'll find your waifu. Life's too short

Lol the time I spent here, I already have a teenager in the home.

I wouldn't recommend it, Josh. Little nigga just constantly posts on twitter about her celebs and kpop and hoola-hoops and pogs or whatever.

One day, I just want to walk into the room and accident catch her making fun of trannies and starting a thread on some site about how many possible wrinkles are in Chris Chans penis.

Thanks for all you've done running the site. I've enjoyed the freedom to call out horrorcows and MbP moms. Hope you are able to find the answers to your questions. Best wishes, Null.

This isn’t really a discussion, or questions I am asking the general public

Well, for what it's worth, here's my unsolicited advice nonetheless:

On the topic of moderators, while we do have some very good new moderators, almost all the old guard left after the hack.

That seems to be the primary problem, you're doing most of this stuff on your own, as the site kept growing.
As far as I'm aware, that was the case with 9chan as well. Yeah, I'd probably be burnt out as well.

I want to start a family.

Good choice. Get yourself a serbian waifu and start a new generation of Kebab-removers!
(assuming you're still in Serbia; you've become more elusive than the irishman by now)

I believe popular depictions of traditional families as “creepy” or “oppressive” is a deliberate effort to undermine this system.

Oy vey, he knows!

What people truly want is not freedom, they want consistency and convenience.

People screeching about the rights they feel entitled to, and actually living up to their standards, are two wildly different things.
I've become very aware of this with the 2nd Amendment crowd. The kind of people who LARP as potential resistance against a tyrannical government wouldn't last a day in a popular uprising/militia. They'd be crying that there's no microwave oven and wifi.
And the "Virginia Boogaloo" just confirmed that. Let's protest, but in the utmost compliant and convenient manner, and accomplish absolutely nothing.
I'm sure the governor was literally shaking about this crowd. At most, they gave the feds an opportunity to try out the latest facial-recognition technology.

Politics exploded in 2016 and has slowly become a defining feature of the forum.

Eh, from the spergy discussions in A&H I've engaged in, I'd say it's mostly in good humor, and rather enjoyable.
I guess it's just getting a bit much lately.

It is the antithesis of fun, and what should be lighthearted prodding of mentally unstable Buffalo Bill impersonators is instead a ‘culture of critique’ on underlying issues and the political realities that people like Jonathan Yaniv pose to the world.

Well, to be fair, people like Yaniv are a cancer on society.
When even the canadian human rights kangaroo courts rule against the litigious faggot-kike, you know they're dealing with an absolutely vile creature.

I can’t bring myself to shut it down because I understand the need for this free discussion

If you don't want to deal with it, don't. You don't owe people a platform, and you provided an alternative platform.
I'd say it would be completely fair to shut down any political section and have it redirect to 9chan, if you're so inclined.

In the alternative, guess you'd have to settle for quantity over quality, in terms of moderators.
Sucks that so many left after the hack, but you can't fill the gaps all by yourself.

Everyone else has said most of the thing I would've said in other posts I haven't said prior, but having thought about your situation logically, I came to a few conclusions assuming you want to shut this operation down and move on to the next chapter of your life.

1. If you want to shut this place down, I recommend it be done with plenty of official notice: long enough to get around to the world yeah, you are closing your doors. Not only will it be good for us to know when this show finally ends, it will give notice to the scum who have been trying to get you shut down via less legal means they can quit hassling you, they'll get their wish if they can rein in their tism a bit longer, and they'll look like assholes for trying to rush things while you get your affairs in order. I do recommend leaving an archive, that torrent minus certain data of a sensitive nature seems practical, might want to donate it to archive.org as well let it circulate among the Kiwis via P2P just be safe though.

2. I don't believe it would be practical to hand this place in situ over to anyone else. As you probably may suspect, the Kiwi Farms and Joshua "Null" Moon are kinda tied at the hip in the public eye. If someone wants to create a sequel, it should be done fresh without anything tied to you directly save possibly a mirrored archive of this place via that torrent idea. Otherwise, you run the risk of a Frederick "Hotwheels" Brennan situation where you could utterly cut ties with this place and still have it having around your neck so long as the original exists in some form outside of a curated archive via torrent. It would also help you if you decide to move to the middle of nowhere, change your name, and and want to put this long behind you.

3. Finally, if you are worried about disappointing anyone, the mass majority of us all will live. There are only three groups who will hate you for not keeping this place around and you'd be better off ignoring them and doing so anyway. To wit, they are:

A. The MOTI cow followers. Those types that show up in droves for people like Chris, Amberlynn, and other perennial dumpster fires where they are just here to be spiteful little pricks and use this place to hatesperg. They'll be pissed they have to find somewhere else to do that, but they'll live and you'll not have to deal with the hassle.

B. The cows who need this place as arch-nemesis. Let's face it, certain attention whores openly try to get the Farms attention because they view it as having "made it" and this place is, as said elsewhere, considered an Internet Eye of Sauron. Not only will the spastics trying to DDoS you and screw over your financing finally be denied a major way to make your life suck, the attention whores who propped you up as their evil incarnate to make themselves look better might crow and preen a little bit, but they'll eventually have to find something else to blame but themselves for their failures and move on with their lives and you can be rid of their faggotry.

C. The edgelords. As seen with the glow in the darks who showed up post Tarrant's rampage and the various idiots and assholes who try to bask in this place's "reputation" to look like badasses to the normal people who think this place is the Dark Web, this place is a magnet for people who think dropping phone numbers and Facebook profiles on people they have beefs with here makes them badasses and they don't care about your feelings, they just want this to be their little clubhouse where they can sneer at the world and unironically consider you the code monkey who deserves no respect and just exists so they can make this their ivory tower to hurl scorn on the rest of the world.

As for this group, fuck these people, you don't owe them a damn thing, and you'd be better off making these EDF rejects find another place to live out their 2edgy4me fantasies.

That's all the advice I have for you should you decide to shutter this place, do whatever you deem best regardless of my two cents though.

Does this mean that DSP will even outlive Kiwifarms? :stress:

Seriously though, as someone who also recently recently reached his 30s, i can understand. I guess this is the time for alot of people to find where there place in Life is.

Maybe you should get away from the Forum for a month or 2 and then think what you want to do.

I will be pretty gutted if KF dies. It's the first place I login to most days. This place completely changed me, I arrived as a po-faced SJW and in my time here I have learned a that ideas should be free and humour is the best thing about being human. That said I am pretty fond of Josh and want good things for him. He is probably one of the most interesting people on the internet. I'm sorry that a gossip forum has been made such a burden that its stopped you living your life in a stable way. I hope you can find some happiness soon.
