The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Glad to see this is playing out exactly as expected, and Forbes is pointing out this game is a dumpster fire without even playing it by using the rest of the reviews out there.

I'm honestly shocked by how bad this seems to be. Like, the diversity is just to make the body count equality friendly, that it misses the tone most of us have seen and understood. Humans tend to co-operate, they tend to come together in times of hideous, hideous crisis just like we've seen in reality during the COVID pandemic, people set aside their differences almost completely during the height of it all, and its only now the worst of it is passing "normal" life is resuming.

Like, even a criminal gang like the Latin Kings and Queens has turned sheriff over their local area and not gone about selfishly terrorising the residents of The Village in Chicago. Heck a faction like that, a former street gang trying to operate a civilisation would be fascinating.

Instead we get a nihilists boring manifesto about lesbian couples in which they do things to each other and don't really bond. This is a game without a soul whatsoever.

Really, the story could've been about a dozen different things. The fact the writing is apparently so lazy that the characters seem completely different from how they were the years prior says a lot. Like, ok, I'm not the same person I was 7 years ago, but there's enough of me from that time that my friends and family obviously recognise me.

This weird Ellie, who grew up in an era probably not knowing what the fuck a bigot even was, feels far too [CURRENT YEAR] in our timeline, instead of focusing on what someone might be like after 7 years of relative safety, in a town in which settlers would be continued to be drawn in. They might be bored and yearn for another adventure like when they were younger, perhaps that could cause a lot of tension because to everyone else she could get infected, she could be killed but obviously Ellie and Joel know different.

The whole game has managed to miss the tone of this years cultural zeitgeist (fuck, this is a bad situation, we need to set aside our differences for half the year to get shit done) and instead is a relentless CURRENT YEAR depression fest.

I feel like this game was written under two massive assumptions: It would have been released in a social leftist world and; there wasn't any mass crisis currently occuring.
I say that because people act in a way that suggests that there's no struggle for food, shelter and, safety. The characters seem rather hostile and combative (which would be the first trait that would see someone dead). Also, the characters are arguing over stuff that in the long run seems petty and insignificant.

But even the setting of the world isn't social leftist. It's a world filled with nut job cultists, murderous separatists and a US military that's desperately keeping control of some cities with an iron fist and still seems to be losing (there's zero impetus for them to expand outwards and resettle, just enough acreage to feed Boston.)

Even in that background calling philly cheesesteak sammiches "bigot sandwiches" is not only likely to get you ostracised, but probably told to fuck off from any communal storage because you're so fucking petty you wont accept food because you don't like the way some people think.

This Ellie is a massive twat in a situation where her own "lived in experiences" should make her grateful for the security provided by Tommy and the others. Instead she's a fucking ingrate who's "defying social norms" in a world that wouldn't give much of a fuck about them, or even if she'd have any experience of the "old norms" whatsofucking ever.

And now compare Bigot Sandwich Ellie with Ellie from the first game, reading a diary pre zombie outbreak.

See, the Vengeance route makes more sense if it's because Joel gets killed or they hurt/break the community and safety she's felt for the past 7 odd years, likely the first she'd felt in her life.

It wouldn't matter if the crotchety bastard who maybe dislikes gay people in this setting because he sees it as a waste in a world in which the number of people needs to go up as a matter of survival and necessity, exists because if he's killed its still part of the community fabric that Ellie could object to.

It'd give an excuse for more people to come along with her and thus regain some of the magic of the first by having the same adlibbed observational scenes as the previous game. From what we're told its a silent slog through pretty levels as you set dogs on fire.

It shouldn't have been such a simplified vengeance plot that could be written by a five year old. It should've been about an attacked community rallying to beat the shit out of external threats as a clunky analogy of rights under attack.

Really, if you desperately desperately wanted the LBTQEWTFBBQBYOB then show the community being more tolerant to that versus, say the Washington Separatists or the Cultists, both of whom may have religious or practicality objections.

All the tranny shit is just some "right side of history" delusional bullshit. Of course, if you assume that LGWTFBBQ+ is part of the natural order, and any resistance to it is representative of arbitrary "social constructs", then why wouldn't that shit exist post apocalypse? It's similar to the jarring racial diversity in Horizon Zero Dawn. Like, yeah humanity's regressed to primitive territorial tribalism, in which you wear particular clothes to demonstrate your tribal allegiance, but of course it wouldn't happen along racial lines because that's just backwards and bigoted.

S'only been 4 years, not 7 mate.

Good catch. The only way it could be better is if the diary was about the Chick Fil-A boycott and she said "Is this all they had to worry about? Whether or not to eat food because the person who cooked it might be a bigot? What the fucks a 'bigot'??"

In mad max, there was a scene where all the raiders discussed white privilege and after a heavy two hour dilation scene, max refuses to eat a racist roast with origins from the UK, the worst colonists ever.

Max's gay 12 year old supple boy lover is proud of his lover, but tragically dies later when he is murdered by a black transexual midget in the thunderdome with a pink pool noodle.

Apparently the ending has leaked, take this with a grain of salt though but holy fuck if this is true. Like God damn, I take back my earlier comments about grabbing it in the 5-10 bin. I genuinely don't understand why ND had to go so ultra violent to the point many will not be comfy. Is he truly that obsessed with gaining the film critics respect or is the guy having some kind of hilariously awful multi-year breakdown?

This is the result of Cuckman having 100% control and absolutely nobody to course correct.

Plus, its even worse - what's going to stop that crazy bitch from trying to just come back and kill Ellie and every single other Joel she runs into? There literally is no good reason to allow Abby to live beyond the fact she is, quite frankly, Cuckman's own mary sue.

I was going to compare Abby to being literally Gollum, but at least Gollum looks better. And has a far more sympathetic backstory.

I don't think that's true. We've seen footage of the Abby Vs Ellie fight scene and there's no finger biting.

I wonder if the shit about this being an abomination is what finally pushed me to pick up RDR2. The ending of 1 is something I still remember from when I was a kid and should probably be a reference to Druckmann for how to write tragedy in video games. Still pissed that Rockstar has basically given up on single-player DLC. I was hoping for an Undead Nightmare-esque thing where you play as a vampire Arthur.

I think its absolutely hysterical that they think that they can get sympathy from someone murdering everyone named Joel.

"Why are you killing me?"

"A man named Joel killed my father."

"But I'm 15."

"Too bad, JOEL"

*bang*

She's a fucked up serial killer. Also, no one who goes killing people based on their name alone would be in any way sane. They'd be unhinged, living in their own filth. The people following her would be gibbering sociopaths, barely capable of human interaction. There's just so much wrong with this, its indescribable. Its the exact opposite of the Hollywood Reporter review. TLOU 2 shows games are extremely juvenile. They don't understand what makes a good story or plot or how to write. TLOU 2 is a prime example of how games haven't grown at all. Its the illusion of growth.

This is the result of Cuckman having 100% control and absolutely nobody to course correct.

FUCKING LOL AT THAT ENDING. That is such a parody of a 'dark' ending.

And yeah, there's no reason to let Abby live. Like 0. Every author on Earth would have had Abby's brains splattered against concrete. Like I said, Abby is a villain you want to see die.

EDIT:
Calling it now, the series is dead. The only way to save it is to honestly retcon this entire game. Its even more broken than Mass Effect 3

If it's true, then I have no words...

I have my doubts about the accuracy of this given that we've seen the final fight and there's no way to interpret that as an Ellie win what with the broken arms, likely concussion, bashed up face, and her teen pregnant Jewess' head one good thwack away from being opened up like a coconut.

But imagine suffering any of those injuries in this apocalyptic scenario, including the hypothetical loss of fingers, and what sets you off is that you can't strum your fucking guitar. Bitch, what about the potential inability to use the tools you've counted on to survive? I guess the loss of hipster music just means more to lesbians than potentially losing the ability to use a bow (one of the best hunting options in the mushrooms zombie land).

And if this is an alternate ending path, then I'm still left wondering how the fuck Ellie survives her injuries. Fingers bitten off by the Transtatic Abs? Guaranteed infection and we saw in the last game how close that can come to killing someone.
