Careercow Chuck Wendig / Charles Wendig / TerribleMinds - Terrible author, terrible person, ruined Internet Archive's online library

Wonder if it could be spun that Chuck trying to remove free and open access to books means he hate minorities, poor people, and the disenfranchised? People who may have trouble paying for access to books and rely on a system of free books as entertainment and education for themselves and their kids.
Actually, that very well could work. You're not wrong, in a sense. Not everyone is able to get their hands on rare tomes thanks to money, library access, or availability. He's doing the book enthusiast, student, and indigent a disservice; then again, it speaks volumes to his sense of self-importance than to any sort of genuine love of writing and literacy for the masses.

Jesus fucking christ every word drips with narcissistic self-indulgence I can practically smell the smug self-satisfied ego through the screen. Tell me you wrote this as a joke. This can't be real.
As much as this is a cliche by now, that article really is oozing with soy. He writes in a way that I’m sure he thinks is witty and likeable but is actually unbelievably grating. What the fuck is “feh,” who ever says feh? The stream of rhetorical questions, the faggy flare he applies to every paragraph.... it’s painfully bad. I am going to get myself tested for GRIDS tomorrow because I think I may have just contracted it.

Oh, I guess “feh” is Yiddish:
“Directly imported from Yiddish פֿע‎ (fe), meaning yuck.” Amazing

I tried to upload every single one of his books to the OP, but Xenforo threw a bitch fit. If Null could upload them all directly to the website, that would be amazing. Also, two of the books uploaded have dead links.
Check out the Imperial Library of Trantor. I linked the clearnet address earlier on in the thread.

Oh you should click on the link for the full effect. But here is the first quoted paragraph from Chuck in the article.
“Let’s imagine that you are, as you are now, a straight white dude. Except, your world features one significant twist — the SFF pop culture you consume is almost never about you. The faces of the characters do not look like yours. The creators of this media look nothing like you, either. Your experiences are not represented. Your voice? Not there. There exist in these universes no straight white dudes. Okay, maybe one or two. Some thrown in to appease. Sidekicks and bad guys and walk-on parts. Token chips flipped to the center of the table just to make you feel like you get to play, too. Oh, all around you in the real world, you are well-represented. Your family, your friends, the city you live in, the job you work — it’s straight white dude faces up and down the block. But on screen? In books? Inside comic panels and as video game characters? Almost none. Too few. Never the main characters.”
I just also find it somewhat hilarious how Chuck is driving a lot of people to the position the Sad Puppies started at. Many of them tried to warn us all about where literature was going and how psychotic those people were, but nooooo, it was just a silly writing award, who really cared?

Well now the Internet Archive and Star Wars burns. Sometimes ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away.
This quote is supremely, as the kiwis say, exceptional in so many levels but I feel one I do not see being discussed enough is how infantile it is. I do not mean as infantalizing the audience but rather infantalizing the concept. Allow me a quick semi-powerlevel; back when I was a kid for the most part when children roleplay they choose characters they can copy on the superficial level, on my case that meant that if you wanted to play princesses you had to get a Power Ranger/Magical School Bus/Burger King Kid Klub level of representation for the poor souls that were trapped always playing Mulan, Jazmin and Pocahontas. In very broad terms I think is pretty insulting that this very stupid trend that I have seen since I was a child is being adopted in a cultural level by my peers as something revolutionary.

Complementing on what @Karl_der_Grosse said already I have to add that most of my favorite reads or watches have nothing to do with factors of my identity because most authors that do write shit I am supposed to relate to always write the same fucking thing. The first time a mate of mine read Do androids dream of electric sheep? he came to told me that I did remind him of Rick Deckard, he obviously did not meant I looked like him or that he picture me as him but rather that we both behaved and saw things quite the same. I did grew up loving Jules Verne's work and when roleplaying I try to not play characters that resemble me superfically because I want a fucking challenge to empathize and build a character that its not me which I also apply when writing.

Writers and editors might or might not agree with me but the most satisfying stories are the hardest to write and the hardest to write are when the author is forced to study life through a new perspective and not just write a self-insert to explore a larguelly derivative world. People are not flocking more to other media because people can't read, they do because a few of the most talented writers moved to other media and what's left is nothing but a bunch of hacks that know nothing about empathy, understanding or any of their exceptional buzzwords.

Spot on. And much of the linked article all goes into what you pointed out.

I think also your point about it being a challenge and stretching the author is exactly why Wendig and his compatriots don't do it. There is one 'F' word they (and Hollywood and other places) will avoid like the plague:

eFFort.

It sounds like a fairly terrible idea to use the site for outright piracy when torrents exist.

You look at these guys and they're not fun, they do not enjoy life, they are not actually wacky and funny.
What they are is angry, and online, and strange.
And strange in an antisocial broken way, not an interesting way. This is what I wish would go out of style, along with their matched mates, the utterly joyless harridans with neon hair, gray grim faces, and $100 neon novelty dresses from Modcloth. Everybody trying so hard to be wacky zany, and nobody having any fun.
It's not. For about 100 years now books have been printed on shit-quality paper, aside from a minimal number of presentation copies. A book that's read much degrades rapidly. The amount of effort and money it takes to stabilize an older book, printed any time after they stopped using rag paper, is insane. And then, if the book gets around one smoker or even just a bad day of air pollution, all that work can be negated in minutes.

I have irreplaceable books (not because of value, but because they aren't reprinted and most copies have fallen apart) that aren't even that old - 30 years - and the paper is just falling to pieces. Anything old enough to be out of copyright and one of the major public libraries will have scanned their copy. Some things are just decaying away. It's getting to be next to impossible to find a lot of short stories, the original magazines and any compilations are just rotting away.
To add to this, I own expensive books published in just the last 20 years that are already degrading. The worst is when art books start yellowing around the edges after just a few years. It's best to scan these things while they're fresh and new. It's a shame people weren't scanning old magazines back in the 1990's. When a small collector dies, plenty of families will look at the condition of old genre magazines and paperbacks and just throw them in the garbage.

Well, Chuck the Cuck finally managed to accomplish something in life. Too bad it’s something that’s going to fuck over a lot of people because of his ego.
His one accomplishment in life will forever mar him as a book-burning, literacy hating, division and smug asshole and only add another nail in the coffin his career that was already built, sealed and buried when his retarded tweets got him fired from writing Star Wars fanfics.

With bluechecks turning on the writer's clique for trying to burn down IA, and with the Hugo Awards being literally being set on fire, it seems like a really bad time to be in the Soy Writer's Posse.

I defy you to find a more punchable face.
Well, there's always Dan Olsen. But I know what you mean. Nothing this guy actually says or does makes me mad; the Internet Archive was always going to be targeted by the usual suspects no matter what, I haven't cared about Star Wars since seeing The Phantom Menace twenty-odd years ago, this guy's SocJus ORANGE MAN BAD sperging is far too common to bother being mad about no matter how objectionable it is, and I can't hate him for his sex crimes because I don't know what they are yet (but his facade of a SO WACKY good Male Feminist Ally Who Takes Care of His Wife's Son just has to be covering up something awful).

And yet somehow seeing his face fills me with the urge to obliterate it with savage violence. Pour acid on it, soak it in gasoline and set it on fire, brutally smash it into a bloody ruin with a sledgehammer. Whatever. He doesn't actually have to die, that's not the point, but that face has to stop existing. Obviously I'm never going to actually do it, or even threaten him (which would be pointless and we both know it). But I am curious about why his face is so utterly repugnant to me. It's probably that disgusting beard.

It's interesting to me how the most pathetic and contemptible authoritarians always have beards, probably in an attempt, conscious or otherwise, at asserting masculine authority, whether they claim to believe in it or not. Both SJWs and the religious conservatives that they are theoretically opposite to both love beards. But they are both so pathetically insecure in their masculinity that they need to compensate by lazily sprouting this food-catching, lice-housing primitive growth. Authoritarian military men who have actually endured rigorous training and can genuinely kill people, on the other hand, are often clean-shaven. Perhaps it's because neither religious conservatives or SJWs have earned their claimed authority; all they've done is Listen and Believe a dogma created by other people, which requires no special qualities of any kind.

I defy you to find a more punchable face.

I present to you: Morgan's Oger. A transwoman who literally started a bullshit charity called the Oger Foundation to try and narc on anyone for noticing he is a man.

He isn't as destructive as Wendig because he's too stupid to be successful, but Chuck looks more like the type you'd wedgy so hard his underwear elastic would wrap around his head.

I think it would get a better response from him too. Punching's a man's game. He is a soyboy.

Having digested my introduction to this guy I'm left with a question. Does Chuck have an editor? I'm trying to imagine an editor reading that sample from earlier and not cutting most of if not all of it. What would that conversation look like?

If Chuck and the other authors who criticized the Internet Archive had any insight at all, they could've done a few things:

1. Set up Patreon or any other payment services and get the Internet Archive to put the link alongside their books, so that whoever enjoyed their works can pay them

2. Write a few short stories to digital publications to earn a bit of money, considering people will be staying at home and read whatever is online

3. Link digital bookstores (Book Depository, Amazon, etc...) that sells their books and maybe ask the stores to hold small discounts of their books

Instead, they decided to bitch and moan and ruin things for everyone, because they'd rather spend time online blaming the world for their supposed misfortunes, not realizing that there are ways to overcome them. It's been 30 years since the Internet become an essential part of daily life of billions of people yet these people are still so myopic.

Chuck is employed cause he works for peanuts and he spouts the correct phrases concerning libtard ideologies.
Engaging an editor would raise the cost and you'd need someone who is being a good boy and shouting all the correct phrases, too.

So yeah, editors do not enter this equation.
Authoritarian military men who have actually endured rigorous training and can genuinely kill people, on the other hand, are often clean-shaven.
When you wear a helmet, it is strapped to your chin, therefore, a beard there is a really bad idea. Equally, a gasmask can't form an airtight seal if there is a beard in the way. That's why most warrior cultures have clean

Like, for his novels or his personal writings? Because most of the pop culture product tie-in fast food trash he's written probably doesn't have the strictest editing standards.
