I'm not a doctor, and I am not sure exactly how "complicating" is used in the medical sense, but that seems to be used more in the sense of "this guy died while being restrained," not "this guy died due to being restrained."

The "Final Diagnoses" section reinforces my interpretation: " 46-year-old man who became unresponsive while being restrained by law enforcement officers..." (emphasis mine)

Under "III. No life-threatening injuries identified," the following items support the notion that the restraint process did not kill Floyd:
  • "No facial, oral mucosal, or conjunctival petechiae" (no burst blood vessels that occur during strangulation)
  • "No injuries of anterior muscles of neck or laryngeal structures" (no damage to his windpipe or neck)
  • " No chest wall soft tissue injuries, rib fractures" (no lung or rib injuries)

Do you have a different interpretation of those? (Asking honestly, not trying to pick a fight.)

Depends on if his charges are state or federal.

I can't remember if Chauvin is being charged at the state level or if they found a way to get him in federal court on some BS technicality.

If he pushes for a bench trial and it's a state case, I have no doubt they'll make sure he gets a black judge or an activist judge who will railroad him in a show trial to pacify the hordes.

If it's a federal case, he might have a narrow chance of beating the odds as long as he doesn't get an activist judge.

Pretty much this. There was a brief push against homeschooling based on precisely this line of reasoning in the mid-late 2000's, but it was pretty short-lived since the Religious Right more or less fully sputtered out by the start of the 2010's.

Very true. Though, I would say furries were the first sign this was the outcome of fandoms becoming such a huge part of people's lives. At least in the modern sense of fandom, anyways.

All of this is obviously very much a symptom of the increasingly vast and echo-y chambers fan sites have become, where it was once just about similar interests, then to similar interests and some politics, to now carbon copy everything or you no longer belong.

It's a simple matter of risk. Any interaction can escalate in a hurry, and choosing to use deadly force on a black male is going to wind up with you getting automatically fired and having to defend a murder charge so that the city can avoid 8+ figures worth of rioting damages. Are you going to go out there with that looming over your head? Are you going to trust your coworkers to have your back with that on their mind? Remember, even if the jury finds you not guilty, you still got fired and likely had your life savings wiped out paying for a defense attorney. If you have literally any other option, would you show up to work in those conditions? I know I wouldn't.
