This reminds me of the National Party's constantly shifting categorization for Colourdes during the Apartheid era. They had all sort of tests to decide what constituted 'Coloured' (any mixed group that wasn't Bantu, so an extremely wide range of people) like the infamous pencil exam - if a pencil placed through one's hair fell out after shaking their head, you weren't Coloured, you were white. This determined where people could live, no joke. Of course the tests and standards of who Coloureds were changed depending on either political expediency or some bullshit ass-pull. Some families were torn apart because one parent failed the pencil test while their child or spouse passed it, and thus had to live in a separate township. To make things even more complicated, at times blacks could apply to have the pencil test taken in order to potentially be re-classified as 'Coloured', so the Afrikaners didn't even follow their own damn claims of there being strict, easy distinctions between each race.

There was also the strange case of Sarah Laing, a girl born to lily-white parents (she was genetically confirmed to be their child) but who appeared Coloured, and was classified as such, until the law changed again in 1966 to allow 'non-white' children born to white parents to be classified as white, but it was too late because she had already been shunned by the white community. She eventually left South Africa and married a Bantu in Swaziland, after which her own father threatened to kill her. Yes, it was extremely autistic and ended up backfiring as most Apartheid-era policies did.

Every decade since the internet went mainstream has seen the death of popular social media sites and the rise of new ones. It's time for something new, and I believe the next big site will attract people because it will have looser rules than the current monoliths.

I'm like half-chub rainbow on this. The other kiwis are correct - big government quite likes the centralization that firms like Amazon, Google, and Facebook all encourage - especially the ones that work with social media platforms. They're going to pass regulations that stiff the competition and protect the incumbents, which is a large part of why the Zuck wanted to help write the regulations for tech.

On the other hand, if an alternative site were to set up and explicitly ban nazis, white supremacists, so-on, so-forth while pandering hard to boomer conseratives, tradcons, and trumpers, it could probably get decent enough traction without getting dragged down by the usual suspects.

Problem is, where are you going to get the staff for a project like that even so? The investment opportunity might be there if you can show a clear plan to ban the problematic elements (you could even make a selling point of saying 'we also ban the black supremacists and commie-terrorists!' or something)... but who's going to make it? The incumbent press is going to go after anyone that invests in it, anyone that works on it, anyone that runs it -- and so if it fails to launch or doesn't take off, it's an enormous risk for the people involved.

That's a part of why I feel that starving these things first is the better angle - the 'journalism' more than the social media, but they seem almost synonymous in how they operate anyways.

One of the dumbest things about this is how people, in their frantic rush to be "on the right side of history", have fallen so far on the wrong side.

They report adults and literal children for saying "All Lives Matter" like the fucking Stasi, advocate the destruction of cities while making excuses/justifications for the fatalities of it, the increasingly bolder ones are calling for eugenics and race wars with more palatable phrasing while rewriting history, and the boldest that have advocated strict gun control for years now also advocate abolishing the police... leaving a very nice void that I suspect "Community Outreach Social Workers" won't fill efficiently (shock!) and the eventual alternative is going to look a lot like something from brutal regimes. Not that they would know about that what with the adamant refusal to acknowledge history because it's apparently too White or whatever.

Most opposed to this nonsense are too scared to speak out because these people will wreck your careers while they follow you home, or just do not have the time because of the things occupying their actual life like jobs, families, homes, etc. It's bullshit, the people most outraged and victimized by this have the most to lose now.

I have also noticed a shift from the idiot child abusing Wendy's Tazer man back to igniting Breonna Taylor's case. I guess the former didn't grab enough of the White Guilt masses as planned.
