So they gave the guy a somewhat graceful way out rather than saying he was fired. They reported that he was stepping down.

The guy that was fired throws a fit, says he isn't stepping down and so his boss turns around and tells everyone "okay we actually fired him." This still isn't good enough so they try to claim that the President has to sign off on it and it turns out that he did. They overreacted in anticipation of a horrible heresy that might grip Europe, especially because early Lutherans burned down cathedrals and destroyed precious works of art and relics. It mostly quieted down once they realized it wasn't that bad. The worst of the wars of that time had more to do with the religious shakeup giving princes and kings an excuse rather than any genuine religious fervor. The German principalities embraced Lutheranism for pure political gain.

Up until very recently I used to think that the antichrist would be an apostate from the Christian church, but I'm starting to wonder if he won't come out of the church of woke instead. It's becoming more and more obvious that social justice has turned into a religion/cult and its extremely fractured. If all the cracks were sealed up and all the sjw's were united instead of out-victimizing each other, then they would be the majority. Since a lot of Christian denoms are now raising social justice higher than teaching salvation, they could easily be folded into the church of woke too, adding to their numbers.
