I don’t know, Zach may have been hoping for a life insurance payout but they probably don’t have life insurance either.
Heather definitely doesn’t have short term or long term disability insurance, no health insurance, they don’t own but rent and rely on her income alone.
They’re about to get hit with a huge bill that I doubt even the most generous gofundme will cover. It’s not a just a huge ER bill that would devastate the typical uninsured American, this is ER, helicopter transfer, ICU and most likely some kind of rehabilitation therapy.
Zach will probably declare her abusive and leave her a month or two after they’re evicted from their current place.

I will never goddamn forget when the EMTs asked my grandma that question and she said "I think it's John Kennedy. What a nice young man." Kennedy hadn't been president for over 30 years by then. I was just a kid but I felt like my stomach had dropped out of my body when hearing her say that, even though she was very pleasant and responsive it just made it so clear that vital parts of her were gone.

I'm glad Heather's gotten to have some coherent conversations with her kids. Even if things go downhill from here, they will be glad to have had a chance to talk to her and tell her they love her, and not have "blue lips on the bathroom floor" be their final recollection.

Poor kids, the level of uncertainty they're living with is vast. They literally don't know if they'll be living in the US in a few months' time. TBH, they should be considering sending the kids to Norway for the summer even though they didn't originally plan to due to 'rona. It's their usual summer thing and will definitely be more normal feeling than mom on neuro rehab.

I want to squawk about the dangers of international travel in times of plague, but honestly sending the kiddos to be with their dad is probably what's best for them. They can get away from Zach & give Heather some peace of mi---fuck.

Zero. Zach is lying. ICUs have severely restricted the number of visitors and have taken extreme precautions because of COVID-19.
I have extreme doubts on Zach’s interpretation of her condition as well.

He's not talking about the ICU, he's just virtue signaling about ~the common people~ getting lazy with their mask usage. Since it was definitely the coof that knocked Heather on her ass, & it was all your fault, Zach.

Not only do they have no insurance, but their current standard of living relies on Heather working 7 days a week, from 65-80 hrs a week. That kind of workload is known to make young, healthy attorneys crack up and fall apart. Heather certainly won't be able to maintain anything like that work schedule now. How are they going to replace that lost income?

she has two lines in and looks like they have been taking her blood sugar (thumbs are bandaged or poked up), probably a shitload of blood tests based on her hand bandages. that's all I could really glean from this pic.

How quickly they can diagnose the problem probably depends a lot on the turn around time for blood testing at the hospital (or whatever lab they send it out to, if needed). Something like 70% of clinical decisions are based off of lab results. I don't know how well equipped the hospital is for these tests or how badly the covid testing has jammed things up. I would imagine all the normal coag tests have been run by now, those results will determine the next round of testing.

Lupus is also something that can cause abnormal blood clotting and is worsened by stress. Well it's really important in brain injury cases to establish some kind of baseline for what the patient was like before the incident, so you know what is damage and what is just the person being what they were already like, and even a few minutes with Zach will tell them she was already the kind of person who would put up with someone like Zach.
