The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

If it's so impressive, hang yourselves with it you faggots.

Getting paid for two voices. Ok lol. Lani told me that "the strikers want residuals which is absolutely ludicrous since most of these games are free to download and the only money the publisher makes is from microtransactions"

This is a woman who has been in the business for decades as opposed to people like...say...Troy, Laura, Travis, even Jamieson Price. (And for what it's worth, Ryan Drummond was essentially like Faye Dunaway in terms of a client. Extreme diva.)
Uh what? I don't think they'll be voice for gacha or F2P games anytime soon. I do agree with what she says though. Voice actors can have a lot of passion, but their contribution is simply just presentation.
Ok Kojima.
Is that supposed to be an insult?

Does it allow people to neck themselves?

I'm watching XqC playthough's and i reached the point where abby decides to betray all of her friends for lev supposedly because he saved her life. Actual exchange:

Are you fucking kidding me? This kid Abby met literally one day ago, whose only personality trait is being trans (and not understanding jokes) was enough to make her abandon Owen and start killing her own teammates. Do you know what this means?

1-Abby had zero second thoughts about popping Joel after he saved her life. Even if you hate joel, his death was insulting and pointless to the say the least.

2-ELLIE DID NOTHING WRONG. By the time they fight, Abby had already made herself a traitor to the wolves and got Isaac (her leader) killed, meaning ellie's kill count didnt matter. If ellie never got involved, Abby would either kill her own friends, be killed by them or run far away.

3-Abby had the opportunity to escape with Lev but instead she decided to hunt ellie to avenge the people she betrayed for lev, while putting lev in risk. This choice actually leads to Ellie saving abby's life!

In other words, Abby did everything wrong AND got away with it! Her revenge was totally worth it while ellie lost everything for nothing! Bravo druckman, your attempt to "redeem" abby made her completely irredemable!

Ok Kojima.
Kojimas games have
-coherent narratives
-unrealistic characters being developed to a point to become realistic and relatable
-sex appeal for any kind of fetish
-when plot points of previous games had to be tied together in a long cutscenes, you were shortly after playing a long section with a different playstyle to shake things up (MGS4: chase scene, Rex vs Ray fight)
-didn’t have to hire hollywood animators to have his games feel cinematic

What rope "physics"? It's just pushing yourself back and forwards on a rope, you know something we've been able to do in games since the Atari.
I think it’s a little dark how they celebrate a game about its rope physics when the game features part of the 41%

Bravo Neil, 4D chess writing

An interracial couple is forced to choose between each other and family/racial loyalty.
A lesbian decides to abandon her partner to join up with a male warlord who offers her safety and security.
A farmhouse in the middle of nowhere finds itself being overrun by starving marauders from the nearest city.
A fat, useless internet reviewer slowly goes insane as he is beaten up and robbed by everyone who meets him.
A feminist is forced to accept the fact that, no, 90 pound women can't beat up 230 lb guys so she has to think of other ways to deal with strong male enemies.
What matters is the characters and liking them, pessimistic torture simulators just don't give any real investment. Which is why this game is a universal trashfire
George Romero is good to take into account, his main characters are compelling and likeable enough to want them to succeed and thus you're invested.
This is why Joel is more important than Neil realizes and it doesn't work without him. Ellie just doesn't work by herself
It's like killing Ben halfway through the night of the living dead. Ben is crucial because we are most invested in those trying to help
I don't know what specifically about these other characters don't work, but they seem to just not be able to work without Joel/Ben
You could also add Lee/Kenny from the walking dead games to that list arguably

No levity, yeah man we need to tell people that lived in world war 2 to fake it so that they forcefully look happy and change its history because it’s too dark for me lol. Last of us is that kind of world or event, it’s end of the world scenario, moment of levity is rare, and should be rare, and the funny thing is, there is fan service in the LOU2, but you wanted everything to have levity. You clearly never played the first game, Joel daughter died in the very beginning of the game, it’s a harsh world, deal with it. It’s not terrible writing if it’s logical and based on reality and actuality.

You don’t have to like Abby, that doesn’t make the story bad lol, she’s literally is no different than Ellie and Joel, if we switched between characters, Joel and Ellie would have done the same if they were in her shoes. People are just butthurt, and I actually liked Abby, I don’t prefer her over Joel or Ellie but she’s not just bad for the sake of it, she had an objective, she is a unique character and I think that was the point, was to see her point of view and perspective, shes not good or bad, a gray character, and let’s be honest you wouldn’t have forgave her no matter what they do to her because of what she did to Joel so let’s cut the bs. It got more interesting when Abby and lev happened, it changed the whole perspective, she lost everything and she wants to move on, a character doesn’t need to be likable to be called good writing. You don’t have to make a villain or anti-hero likable, I know you probably watched too much mcu movies, you wouldn’t understand, you think all characters needs to be super relatable to be called good writing, I guess we need to think joker is relatable if not it’s bad writing lol.

All trailers showed very little of Joel in fact that’s why people speculated him dying before even the leaks happened. It doesn’t matter, the game can change in the process, it’s a developing game, not something you make in few days. Also you already heard about the leaks so you would have known about it anyways but you already bought it or probably just watched.

Let me explain this in a way that you'll find simpler. In a narrative that is focusing on darker content, it is extremely easy for an audience to get overwhelmed, grow numb to the ongoing suffering, and just start tuning whole thing out. That's a natural response based on human psychological adaptive response. There needs to be cooldown moments to make the grim despair-fueled narrative actually mean something to the audience, and while it's not impossible to succeed while not doing that, it's substantially harder, and makes the work much harder to sustain. This downtime is even more critical because it lets characters show aspects of themselves you wouldn't see otherwise. One of the most complained-about facets of this game - by people who like it - is that the story doesn't take the time to breathe, and that it just never lets up with the grimdark. You keep comparing the narrative of TLOU2 to the likes of WWI and II, but there've been plenty of works based on both that actually paced themselves didn't fuck this paradigm up.

The writing of TLOU2 is completely illogical. I'm not going to bash the obvious stupidity of things like "Bigot Sandwiches," but nobody who appeared in the first game is consistent in their portrayal in the second. Joel's death has him effectively get caught in a scenario that he specifically went out of his way to avoid in the first game. Characters are constantly introduced, treated as they have plot relevance, and then are promptly abandoned and never show up again for the rest of the game. This is the kind of shit that made the Star Wars sequels so mockable.

Abby, however, remains a sticking point. No amount of context can make one sympathize with her; there is no way to describe her actions as anything other than outright evil, and after she brutally murders the previous game's protagonist, you are forced to play as her for a big chunk of the fucking game. The problem, of course, is not that Joel died; frankly most were expecting him to, considering. The problem is that, much as was the case for several other franchises, his death was handled with zero respect or grace (and features his corpse being spit on by Neil Druckmann's self-insert), and seemingly was mostly done to prop up a character that isn't worth holding his jockstrap.

As for the trailers? There's several that featured Joel that in the actual game, flat-out have someone else. Show me a single fucking trailer, prior to about a week before the game's release, that showed Abby. I'll fucking wait, because Abby featured in none of the fucking promotional materials.

I have to admit, I‘m somewhat of a Sonygger. Ever since the PS1 I‘ve been a little bit brand loyal and always preferred a PlayStation over an Xbox, though always had a Nintendo console and Pc on the side.
But JESUS FUCKING CHRIST this is the gayest kind of shit. What the actual fuck, this is the equivalent of a 35 year old covering his room with Super Mario posters and bedsheets.

Friendly reminder that a scrapped plot point for the first game had Tess as an active antagonist, chasing Joel through the entire country

„too unrealistic“

Isn’t that the entire reason why this game gets all the praise? For the characters being relatable and realistic because it’s a game and you’re directly controlling them?
Let me tell you a little secret: if you take away the gameplay and turn this into a movie, or maybe even a book, this would drown in the sea of Young Adult storys with mediocre writing and bland characters.
The reason why Joel was so relatable is that he‘s bland enough from a writing point of view to put yourself into his shoes. His loss of a loved one is something we all can relate to because every single person on this gay earth has felt an unjustified loss in their life.

Besides, have you actually read the files in the first game, specially in the hospital? The Fireflies has several immune children, but every single time they botched the operation, killed the patient and didn’t gain any valuable information about this kind of mutation.
It’s almost as if removing a fungus infested brain would also destroy any kind of knowledge on how it functions.
But Dr. Steroid might be lucky this time! The 25th time‘s the charm, right?
If they actually turned this into a movie, it would have been better. You weren’t playing her to like her, you were playing her to see her perspective, what made her do it, what drives her to do so, I understood where she came from and thats the point, you don’t have to like her more than Joel and Ellie, I mean she killed Joel, that alone means nothing they will do will make people like her, but at least you understand her motive, also her moving on is important for Ellie and Joel story. Ellie couldn’t forgive Joel, so she forgave Abby, it’s too deep for little minds. Also Abby is waaaaaaaaaay more fun to play than both Ellie and Joel. That’s just it.

They were trying to find a cure as in a vaccine to make themselves immune to it like Ellie, and it doesn’t matter if they wanted to retcon it, they can, cuz it made more sense than scientists just killing all the immune, it’s so stupid, especially when the story revolves around her being the chosen one, so if anything that’s terrible writing in the first game, thankfully it was only put in paper (that is assuming what you said is true). Imagine playing the whole game just to find out she was just another girl, they seemed so sure of it, and they said results were very promising, and Ellie wanted it to happen anyways, even Joel said “the only catch is that it would have killed you”.

Always playing the steroids card, this is clearly coming from someone that never watches sports or go to the gym. Just so you know she was modeled after an athlete called Colleen fotsch, and guess what? she’s also a natural. Shocking right lol, I guess having unique characters is a sin or a bad thing.
