Seeing a lot of demand for housing during these events. They usually refer to it as "affordable housing" as said by the people who want it and their local government activists. It's just a euphemism for public housing, though. A lot of demands are thrown in these protests and have absolutely nothing to do with police or law enforcement. If housing is too expensive in a place where people are committing unpunished robbery, shitting in the street, doing drugs in public as allowed by law, then there is something fundamentally broken in those locations -and it isn't the police or lack of Section 8 or public housing.

It's because those in power have given developers free reign to build luxury housing, literally everywhere. Even in shit neighborhoods. A lot of time these places don't even get rented and sit vacant. Who's going to pay $4000 a month to live in Brownsville and get jumped every morning on their way to work?

The government has made a compromise where they will let developers build whatever they want as long as they allocate some of the units for working class and low income tenants. There was a stink in the news a few years ago where developers were literally designing the buildings so the rich tenants left through the luxurious main entrance and the poors had to leave through a poor person entrance.

It doesn't help that in places like the Bay Area are filled with NIMBA types who prevent proper housing to be built (e.g. apartment towers) causing the price of housing to skyrocket due to lack of supplies vs the demand. Then you have rich Chinese buying up all the housing in Vancover allowing the housing to remain empty so they can "escape" once the CCP becomes "too much" for them.
