The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Add another Korean to the list of people that hate it.

The asian market in general hasn't been kind to the game. That's what I feel will prevent it from hitting the long term 20 million mark.

It's real hard to sell a lot of copies when even China isn't fond of your product.

Also lol on that literal Last of Us 2 stan in the replies. Don't care if you say you're pretty, or that dudes DM you. (Wanna bet it's a tranny?)

"The Last of Us" would make a great anthology title; every game should've just focused on different groups/characters trying to survive. Make references to the other characters in the series loosely (easter eggs or something) and focus on the clickers.
The best way to do it. They have material to spare, they just need to keep the setting in mind. Do you want to go into the 20-odd years between the start of the outbreak and TLOU? How about what happens in other places like a cop in Alaska or a charity worker helping a little Mexican shantytown near the border? Places outside the US like Hong Kong, Prague, Russia, what have you? Maybe you're a member of a PMC working security for a laboratory that knows way more about the origin of the outbreak than anyone let's on? All of this off the top of my head.

All great ideas, but they all have the exact same flaw. Where's the torture/misery porn? Druckmann could never get off this.

So, I've got a buddy who served over in the Middle East. He's seen some shit. I was talking to him about the game and he told me about how Joel's death scene really freaked him out because of how they kept focusing on the shotgun wound to his leg. He ended up telling me that one of his buddies ended up getting a similar wound and that the game's rendering of it was pretty much exactly what it looked (and moved) like and that he couldn't stop thinking about it. He's the kind of guy who can stomach all sorts of fucked up gory shit and loves it but this scene really fucked with him.

Listen, I don't mind gore in games, but if you're making it so excessively detailed and realistic that you give a hardass veteran Afghanistan flashbacks, you just might be going overboard.

that was something i really appreciated about what id said with regards to the gore in doom eternal. they knew they were making an incredibly violent game and they tempered it by making it cartoonish, to the point where they added a silly popping sound when you rip out a cacodemon's eye and feed it to it just to further sap the seriousness of it. seeing the focus on realistic gore and violence in other games like cod was really offputting to me too, and i don't even really have that much experience with actual bad wounds or injuries outside of some particularly spicy medical pictures. and hell, i love gears of war and dead space, but in the former, chainsawed bodies immediately turn into styrofoam soccer balls, and in the latter the sync kills are so silly that it sucks away some of the horror of it.

one of the few things i'll agree with jim sterling on, the focus on making games more realistic to the point they cross right over into revolting is going way too far. doing it for cheap shock value is even worse.

Indeed. I have no problem with gory games (heck, like I mentioned earlier, I love titles like Killing Floor 2 and Soldier Of Fortune 2). But when you are making what is supposed to be a super-serious narrative-driven game, you need to have some sort of reason for it beyond just "heh, look how mature we are".

On a different note, do you know how sad it is that I think that this game's ending would've been better if it took a few nods from the latest Rambo film (which itself is flawed, but not to this game's degree)? Like, picture this scenario.

Instead of bringing in an entirely new faction at the last minute, have Abby and Lev indeed meet up with the Fireflies and set up their base where the final act is. Ellie goes in to avenge Joel and the like, and her also having to take down Fireflies I think would add an extra layer to this, as she's also in a sense getting back at the organization that caused all this to begin with. Then when she does confront Abby (taking a nod from Last Blood), have her indeed manage to kill the latter, maybe even in the same way as that film (rip out her heart, symbolizing what she did to Ellie). Then she looks at Lev, realizes how far she's gone, and toss him the knife, gesturing to him as to imply that she letting him kill her for revenge. Only for Lev to toss the knife away, stating that he won't go down the path that resulted in Abby's death. It then ends with Lev leaving on the boat, and Ellie returning home to find Dina gone, but that she left a final message for her.

I know, this is really amateur, and probably not even as good as what actually happened. Just a thought.

Metacritic score still in the pits. Also those silly animations they do of the characters kinda piss me off.
I said before that fastest selling really means nothing and that they were gonna push articles like that.

Like a store gets 5 copies in and they all sell out within minutes and they need to order more, that's what constitutes as fastest selling. If 80 locations get limited amounts of copies compared to the last game which only was sold like that in 70 locations it beats that record.

All the big box stores like Walmart, Target, Best Buy will always have some version of the game in stock. Shit like the limited editions will sell out, but the regulars will remain.

The last game to actually sell the fuck out of everywhere was the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It was weeks before they restocked.

You could also probably throw in Sakura Wars as well. That's already getting jacked up in price.

You know I heard from an insider that Naughty Dog bought 4 million copies of it's own game in order to not look silly on the internet, which sounds like a thing that definitely probably happened.

"Yo Disney! It's your biggest fans, Naughty Dog here! Quick question...

After you guys fucked up that last Star Wars sequel so bad it killed the franchise, was there anything you tried to make it not look like as big of a disaster?

Ha ha, asking for a friend..."

First I'm hearing about Disney cooking the books on Star Wars (though it wouldn't surprise me), the big shitshow with the government that Disney got into hot water with was artificially inflating the numbers for Captain Marvel.

Since, y'know, nobody really gives a shit about Captain Marvel.

I think Neil lost on the whole "Treating Naughty Dog members like shit... atleast i dont think he can get away from that"

But the actual game he legit won on. Its like a anime, you think you win, then the opponent wins and you aknowledge its strength :P

I mean think of it. If people never leaked this game at all, then he may have looked worse, because people telling how this game would tank (including me).. exact opposite. So on that, he won on actually. So in actuality, the leaks helped this game more, reputation points i mean

Gotta give cred to that

Sony claims this is the best selling PS4 exclusive. Until actual numbers are revealed we have to take them at their word. I wonder how many people refunded this trash fire?

They were buying out empty theaters/seats for both Captain Marvel and Rise of Skywalker.

AKA "Gee Disney, how do your investors let you wreck TWO Franchises?"

Sure. Love and respect. Constantly shitting on your fans who bring up legitimate concerns.
On the flipside, should consumers even love and respect Game Devs?
They're here to offer us a service, it's up to us if we wish to purchase it. It's their job. In my jaded and cynical worldview, they're just like the cashier at my local grocery store. Same goes for bands or actors whose work I enjoy. They're here to service me and I'll compensate them for that.
It's not like I go around yelling in apartment complexes "HEY! I BUILT THAT SHIT! LOVE ME!".
We could use a cultural return to the Renaissance where Artists were just another group of laborers who deliver art for a set of money.

Most of them can't. After Anthem and ME:A the stores are just outright refusing to pay for your stupid mistakes.

Best you might get is store credit.

Something that might be interesting to look at:
B1D76A5C-93C4-4177-AFD6-E7261787B3E3.jpeg

a big german company which specializes in buying used games and movies is outright denying buying off used copies of The Last Of Us Part 2, saying that it’s currently not available to be bought from you (Momentan kein Ankauf möglich)
The only option would be the EU/UK import version, though that’s probably an oddity in their system, had the same issue with a Resident Evil game before.

Dunkle is trying to meme and it’s not going great, judging by the comments.

"Love and respect =/= pander"
Ah, yes of course. That's why you used a Methodist church as a synagogue to discuss the severity the Jews felt in the Holocaust, or how you used a FtM trans person to discuss the moral ambiguity of killing parental figures because of your identity maybe not allowing you to be a soldier and definitely needing you to be bride. Out of love and respect.

In a post apocalyptic zombie game - yea, fuck off Neil. Love and respect my ass...yeah you sure loved and respected the hell outta Joel, man. ...Y'had that love and respect painted all over the walls, every last bit of it, I see. Yeah, you can especially see that in those bits over there, on the ground over here, on that 9-iron...
