Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

Amusingly, they want impeachment to be this sort of "quantum trial" thing. So doesn't surprise me that they'd toss double jeopardy away, as it's inconvenient for a kangaroo court.
No, it's always been the case.
In fact, the original language introduced by James Madison reads "No person shall be subject, except in cases of impeachment, to more than one punishment or trial for the same offense". From the very start it was intended that, even if Congress could not reach a verdict on whether to impeach a president at one point, they could at a later point try again to remove him - for the same crime or another. Presidents are and should be held to a higher standard than the average citizen when it comes to their duties and the restrictions held against them. It is injurious for the citizen to be placed on trial for a crime, to have a jury decide we are either not guilty or did not fulfill the definition of the crime with which we are charged, and then for the state to have a second go at it with another jury; but it is not injurious for the country at large for Congress to seek the removal of a particularly out of control president as often as they can muster the political will to do so. In fact, Congress can impeach a president for any reason they care to name. A crime is not required, only a vote in favor of removal from office. The entire point of this exception to normal rights in court is to prevent a situation where a President weasels their way out of a conviction once, and then feels free to commit the crime again with impunity. Instead, the President must feel that impeachment is always a tool available to Congress as a check against his power.

Of course, the Founding Fathers never envisioned we as a nation would fall so far that a particular political party would lose their fucking minds and abandon honor, decorum, and common sense. The unfortunate fact is that the die has been cast and impeachment will become yet another common political stratagem for a divided government. Court packing under FDR was the last time this sort of madness happened, and thank God he never actually went through with it or we'd have 100 justices on the bench right now. I guess the Clinton impeachment under Gingrich counts too, but in that case it was more of a cut and dry sex scandal combined with Clinton being really stupid to lie about it.

I can't believe they're raising a stink about something that is 99.9% complete and utter bullshit.

Like...

I can see that it might be some intel that was picked up by the whomever, but I'm guessing that it was investigated in after it was raised and found out to be bunk.

More to the point, what does Russia gain by such a thing?

For ten years... FOR TEN YEARS I've been telling people that Russia is a paper bear, but suddenly they're the most dangerous threat to America since the cold war (which was ironically russia).

So she's blaming trump for a thing Russia did? Like Trump can't stop the Russians for putting Bounties on our soldiers.
The media are mad they had to find out about something after the fact instead of getting the intel right away and using it against their homeland. And they're not going to let their readers forget it.

Reading the actual articles it looks like Russia may have done bounties on "US coalition forces", which the media is saying technically includes US forces too. Tho given coalition forces often ends up meaning 'friendly' terrorists you could read it as Russia giving funding to some Afghan government (or pseudo government?) to kill some terrorists.

More than likely, they put bounties on Chechans/chechan allies that were attached or adjacent to the Afghan government forces as segments of the Chechans don't like Al Queda very much.

They all forgot who Obama made a comeback in the 2nd debate during the 2012 election season by mocking Romney over his cold War Russia hysteria.

Imagine being so far to the left that you accidentally turn your Iwo Jima parody into less Norman Rockwell and more Socialist Realism. Also it seems this Michael D'Antuono guy has been painting a constant stream of batshit crazy agitprop since the ascension of Black Jesus (and yes, he draws him exactly as such!). Might be a decent source of content or full on lolcow. His Youtube channel is pretty cringe too but obscure.

Biden is truly catering to the progressives. Also, a devout Muslim probably wouldn’t associate themselves with a gay man. This poster is a fantasy.

The majority of Muslims in the democratic party are usually secular leftists who culturally follow it, whatever that means. The remaining vote for the democrats due to Bush invading Iraq.
How secular some are is truly up for debate. Also, you can be culturally conservative and vote Democrat.

You, sir, are a sterling example of why you should archive immediately, even before you post.
Every now and again I do something right lol.

I actually did think of something else ironic. Besides being no smarter than Pelosi, he is apparently also no better than Pelosi at understanding leverage.

We were all laughing at her during impeachment trying to leverage sending the articles of impeachment over to the Senate when McConnell had no incentive to ever receive them. If this tweet were true, the rest of the league would have no incentive to sign Kaepernick. All the GMs would be saying to themselves, 'You mean to tell me, that all I have to do to keep the reigning MVP off the field indefinitely is not sign Colin Kaepernick? Well, count me in!' It took a little while for that to occur to me, but an aspiring Congressman should have realized that instinctively and tipped him off.

I can only imagine how something like that would have gone down in the early 90s NBA. If Michael Jordan had said, 'It's wrong for Magic Johnson to be kept out of the league due to HIV. If the league doesn't reinstate him and another team sign him, I won't play!' I can practically hear Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley and Karl Malone saying, 'Yes Lord, please! Please do that MJ.'

Man, the Dems have absolutely zero political talent currently or in the near future.

He's like a socialist realist bizarro Ben Garrison.

Barr must have comically long arms.

Trump isn't really a republican.
Bernie isn't really a democrat.

There isn't such clear division anymore. You're with a 2 party system so people otherwise un-moored are forced to align to what they can.
Case in point - former Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull - conservative in name only. The only conservative ideal Turnbull had was conserving government funds for he and his rich friends. His social ideals were pure liberal.

Trump has socially liberal policies (hes handled foreign matters with diplomacy and not endless wars) with touches of fiscal conservative leanings - he's a "common sense" conservative.
Establishment repubs had socially status-quo conservative policies with liberal spending - their spending was just into the war chest and not into the community.
Up until late-stage Obama, the dems were the same.

I remember reading somewhere that Turnbull had planned on joining the Labor Party but joined the Liberals to impress his missus' parents.

Article literally just made for headline bait for places like reddit that don't bother actually reading anything past it. All to be posted so people can smugly posture in the comments about how stupid orange man is and "How can anyone with half a brain still support him after THIS!" reposted ad nauseam to thousands of upvotes.

Woah, who would have known r/politics already had it posted.

My favorite comment I found:

What gets me about these people is that they're so smug in their ignorance.

His memoir set it out pretty straight with his political leanings, but yeah, this is the story. He was very Anti- Howard.
Howard was a great Lib PM. Turnbull was just a miserable ghost.

The thing with Trump isn't Trump or his politics. The problem is social media and the culture that's developed because of it. It's made everyone stupid, LOUD and lacking in critical thought. If we had social media back in Howard days, it would have been as bad as TDS.

Was saying a few weeks ago that the DNC's messaging is going to be that Biden is a unifying candidate that will end the polarization. Never mind that the Democrats are the ones that brought things to such an extreme point and Trump has largely refused to provide them the authoritarian response they crave.

I've been making it clear to as many people as possible the underlying truth of the message: "my side will stop sponsoring riots once we get what we want."
