Reminder that the police charged with murder in the Floyd case have pushed for the full body cam footage to be released and for the trail to be recorded for broadcast, and both times their "AntiFA-loving" local DA has denied these requests. The only reason that Ellison could possibly have to suppress truthful information is because it's unfavorable to their narrative.
This seems to be contrary to most previous high-profile cases where body cam and other audiovisual evidence is released in the name of transparency and accountability. A similar thing an be said about broadcasting the trials; the press usually insists it's a First Amendment issue when someone requests closed proceedings. It really does make one go, "Hmm," to see the opposite taking place here.
Apparently the union has also been prohibited from viewing the footage
Oh FFS the union seems to be the only rational party in the whole cluster fuck. One should reserve judgement until all evidence is presented. But no, we should only go off of incomplete evidence and form mobs and riot and loot.
TFW Union Reps are the voice of reason.
I even agree that the Union needs the full body cam footage in order to know exactly what happened from start to finish for two main reasons:
- To determine the appropriate discipline and remedial measures for those officers that didn't follow policy, and
- To advocate for the involved officers to make sure that any action against them is proper and consistent with what's spelled out in the union contract.
There's also a certain irony to these activists that demand prisons be emptied or people awaiting trail not needing bond only to demand police or other people they hate indefinitely rot in prison without due process.
People fundamentally misunderstand the role of a police union leader too. His entire job is to have the backs of officers accused of misconduct. The fact that he outright said Chauvin was wrong and should be fired is a huge shift from anything he’s said in the past related to police brutality cases. And it still isn’t enough for the mob.
This just illustrates that even when someone says/does all the right things, the goalposts
still move in that doing the right things never seems to be enough. The whole mob mentality right now is both concerning and disturbing.
Its funny really, the left is pro union until it comes to police unions (and this is not new), even though police unions seem to really be the only unions that don't suck up to management and protect their members (for better and for worse) like a union should. I get attacked when I point out the union I was a member in for a previous job I had when I point out my union didn't protect the workers safety (numerous OSHA and city code violations) nor from management, and how that union also was too busy sucking the dick of the company, even when I say I support unions just that you can't say all unions are good and should be subject to scrutiny.
Many years ago, an auto plant retiree mentioned, "The unions had their purpose but now all they seem to do is protect the goof-offs." Sadly, he was spot on for many unions. I've observed unions through their reps and stewards doing more to stand behind workers with poor work habits or unacceptable behavior than they do for hard-working members seeking union backing/support/advocacy when management acts outside its bounds of authority.
Still, I'll give credit to the police union for demanding
all the information they need in order to properly represent its members and make an informed decision about what happened and how to appropriately respond to that. I hope they file grievances/suits if that's what it takes to overcome the DA's stonewalling.
Left and right. Black and White agreed that somebody fucked up.
That's been the one consistent thing I've observed as well. It's truly mind-boggling that people thing radicalized violence is the proper response to alleged acts of violence or excessive force. I get some of this comes from behind the scenes manipulation. The fact people are so quick to blindly buy into that, however, is scary -- especially if this continues through the summer or through Election Day.
