Anytime someone mentions Harvard, I think about Walden and Thoreau's comments on how little colleges taught you, even back in the mid-1800s. Nothing has changed, but we were all convinced at an early age that Harvard = prestige and genius. Now look at them. It's astounding how nothing has changed in 170 or so years, yet people have been fed the line about college that entire time.

Talk about entitlement. I've been around people that talk like this and it's unnerving. This was about five years ago but I was servicing some equipment in a commercial kitchen and a young white girl was talking about herself and her beliefs. Artsy type, pale as fresh snow, had a black boyfriend, and was very very self-righteous. All things I picked up from her conversation while I was working on the other side of the room. Normally I would forget conversations like this, I hear a million of them a week so what's one more? But this girl stuck with me.

She was talking about some recent event that had stirred the pot at the time, I couldn't tell you what that event was. But whenever she said the word "white people" the way she said it was dripping with disdain and hate. It was astounding how hateful she came across simply by uttering two words. And in public no less. I don't know where she is now but I can only hope she's managed to simmer down a bit, though I'm not holding my breath on that. This kid barely over the legal age to drink was filled to the brim with hate for white people, as if she wasn't one of the whitest motherfuckers you'd ever meet.

I can buy that there's some obscure made up fake holiday I'd never heard of.
