Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I just noticed how piss-poor the designs of the whole trilogy were. everything is either same but BIGGER, same but BULKIER same but BULKIER AND BIGGER BUT BLACK or some kitbash like the new x-wings some kid in kindergarten could probably do better. and everything that doesn't change stay the same so hard it makes zero sense. rey keeps her same fucking hairdo (which is retarded on a desert planet to begin with) outfit since she was was a child, wears the exact same outfit on ilum starkiller base with enough snow that it's desert's planet temperature in negative values, and keeps wearing it till the end as some form of jedi robe or some shit. is there a rule that you can wear whatever the fuck you want as a jedi or does it have to be the shit you were wearing once you heard the word jedi the first time?
I also never noticed how shit it looks in TROS, they somehow managed to make it worse. what's up with that fucking collar? and why does it have a hood? because jedi's have hoods? even ruin johnson changed her look and style enough to make it distinguishable (and even if you want it to excuse for leia reshoots, plenty of scenes afterwards without her).

fucking slice of life anime takes more care of their characters, bloddy hell...

The book that never was I would most like to read is the one they cancelled on the making of Rogue One, I am fascinated to know the full story of what happened with the making of that film and what the Director's original cut of the film actually was. It is clear they dont want the public to know the true story on that.

same. I enjoyed it enough for what is, a better handled production can't be worse than what we got with the ST. at least solo had the gritty war bits down in the trenches (and it fucking worked).

It's not surprising since some slice of life shows actually do really well in avoiding the "everyone wears the same thing everyday" since some shows will have the girls wear several different outfits (when not in school uniform) or change their hairstyle occasionally. Even if they're just moeblobs at the end of the day, in that aspect of character design it's very well done.

JW Rinzler's video is out.
He reveals a lot but not too much as he is still bound by a non-disclosure agreement, but to summarize the questions and answers in the video:

1: For those of you who don't know who JW is, he is the writer of The Making of [insert SW movie name here] books and basically was the keeper and new publisher of SW's production history starting from 2001 when he was first hired by Lucasfilm until getting canned by Disney in 2016, giving him a 15 year run with the company, and aside from writing reference books, he was also the mind behind the creation of SW: Visionaries, pitching the original idea which he then wrote the introduction for.

2: His last job at Disney-Lucasfilm was to write The Making of TFA, however it was clear from the beginning that Disney did not want this book to be made and simply went along with it for a while, and eventually had someone else finish it for JW, but even then JW was allowed to finish it, but Disney in the end chose not to publish it due to "policy" reasons. The production of TFA was apparently very troubled as was the conversion of Lucasfilm into a Disney company which officially began in 2014, with the internal culture of the company going through much change in 2014, which aligns with Disney's "Canon/EU Purge" at the time.
1593664419610.png

3: After getting canned from Disney-Lucasfilm, JW began writing his tell-all blog which he dubbed "The Rise and Fall of Star Wars" and it would've covered everything starting from the beginning of his career with Lucasfilm in 2001 to his parting in 2016, with the blog itself being over "10 chapters long" and mostly covering how drastically things had changed after George foolishly sold the company, however while writing it, he was contacted by Disney's lawyers who then warned him in the "nicest way possible" (obviously doesn't want to break that NDA here lest he end up in debtor jail) to keep his mouth shut. He admits he was too naive to realize just how seriously Disney would take a blog which was apparently not even hateful or damaging, since he assumed the NDA was only to prevent talk that would reveal too much financial information or defame executives or something. He thinks the NDA is unfair and his agent told him to take down the blog because otherwise he would be forced to pay up 20,000 dollars. Since he didn't have the money, he gave up and shut down the blog.

4: He's asked if he liked or hated the Disney movies. He admits he only saw TFA and Rogue One but they weren't his cup of tea. Personal tastes aside, he also states that it was hard for him to enjoy them because "he knew what was going on" and the movies were not made with visions in mind. Both films (since these were the only ones he was a part of) were conceived by committees in a boardroom (to no surprise from me). We know this to be a fact with Rogue One, and as for TFA there are contradictory accounts but judging from JJ, Kennedy and Kasdan's comments, this is likely accurate for TFA as well (of course you don't need someone to tell you that based on what a soulless and corporate-approved retread that shit was, but it feels good to see it being openly stated), and that while he knows that George is not perfect, George would've been preferable. He hasn't seen TLJ, IX or Solo since he has no personal investment or involvement with those.

5: His cats are doing fine, but Stinky died... His new Aliens book is dedicated to her.

6: He was part of the season 4 writing team of Filoni Wars. George picked JW to "rehabilitate" Jar Jar Binks, which resulted in the Jar Jar and Windu arc, and he was the one who created a love interest for Jar Jar in the form of Queen Julia. However, despite being credited as the writer for both episodes, JW claims his original scripts actually went mostly unused or were completely changed, with the only thing that stuck was Jar Jar's gf and nothing else. Personally, I can only assume Filoni chopped up whatever JW made as Rinzler lists him as the head writer (he compliments him and says it was an honor being at the same table as him, but then he pauses and swallows nervously as he mentions Filoni being the "head writer") and the episodes themselves also heavily retconned the Phuii species which I can only assume is Filoni's doing since Rinzler created a whole new planet called Bardotta named after Brigitte Bardot to serve as the main setting rather than use a familiar world to fuck over. The name of the planet was kept but they brought in the Phuii which feels like something Filoni would do since he likes taking "unused" concept art for alien designs despite that a Phuii did get a brief appearance in TPM despite his larger scene being deleted.

7: JW Rinzler wrote a novel called All Up which is a fictionalized version of the space race which will be receiving its first paperback and audiobook in August and September, and it has an SW easter egg. This might be related to Bongiorno's Supernatural Encounters story which will also be getting released around the same time.

8: Someone asks him a dumb question and then he waxes nostalgia and blabbers on about his fellow authors, experiences, meetings, licensings, etc...

9: He closes the video by mentioning how appreciative he was of George and everyone at old Lucasfilm, and that George was very creative, always going into a lot of details on aliens, planets, myths, etc, and JW apologizes that he couldn't do more for fans during these times but it seems like he might make more of these videos in the future.

10: Expect Doomcock to cover none of this.

And that's that...

With that out of the way, I'm going to assume the thread's calmed down enough now that I can probably continue the cosmic shitpost. If anyone doesn't remember the info too well or if there are new arrivals who want to know what the fuck I'm talking about, I can link the previous pages again if needed.

If a movie is going to flop, it's going to be the Eternals. I read the comics (or at least I did) and even I can't find it myself to give a damn. Black Widow will probably do fine though I'm probably not going to see it out of apathy. Shang-Chi won't be big in the US but maybe in China. The only interesting one for me is Dr. Strange. Black Panther II will make bank, though. Every melalinated individual will spend every bit of their reparations cash in repeated viewings.
Agreed, Eternals looks so so very bad. It boggles my mind that Feige is letting that one go thru as it is because there's just nothing about that movie that interests me.

Like let's just talk surface level since that's the only real info we have on the movie. There's seriously almost no sex appeal in that whole movie. The youngest woman in the cast is Gemma Chan who is 37 and frankly is just everyday pretty as opposed to classic Hollywood beauty. Angelina Jolee and Salma Hayek were goddesses in their day but now they are grandma aged women and it shows.

Yes you can make the argument that Zoe Saldana who was in her 30s was the only sex appeal in Guardians of the Galaxy, the redhead in Doctor Who doesn't count as she was covered in heavy makeup to appear as an android. But Zoe Saldana was straight up one of the prettiest women of 2000s Hollywood.

Disney-Marvel likes to pretend that they've defeated sexism. But no audiences still want hot chicks in their blockbuster movies. I hate her for how she conduct herself with PC platitudes but Brie Larson is still a sexually attractive women. Does anyone think Captain Marvel would have made bank without her looking cute?

It's telling they didn't demand that they didn't force her to get a pixie cut and kept her with long hair. It didn't save the movie in terms of interest for me, because while she's not bad looking (besides no ass), she is a massive cunt, which cuts attractiveness down by a good half to a third for me.

Dumb bitch got an industry award, thinks it means she's better than any of the other meat puppets in Rapesville.

I have a long drive ahead of me. So quick question: is this worth converting into a podcast to listen to or just save time and read this post?

What I have always thought about the ST designs is that they are just simply their arrogant (or ignorant) versions of all previous ships, droids, objects, costumes etc. To me it was like you had a room of people who had never seen the OT and gave them sheets with general written descriptions of X-wings, star destroyers, etc. and said "what do you think these look like?"

All of this was done with no regard for the established aesthetics of the Star Wars universe. None of their designs fit in, not even the costumes. This is why the Falcon looks so out of place when it is on screen.

Quick question: Does Force Push your opponent out of the building count as a win? like when Maul did to Grievous during the Second Battle of Dathomir, only because he got distracted by Count Dooku screaming in pain.

Yeah it does, but then Grievous retaliated by climbing back up and quadruple penetrating Mauls mother. The real question is: Was it worth it?

Also just wanted to share this photo below because it funny how Star Wars fans will say thing like this, acting like Grievous never won a single duel and they always make sure they used Filoni/Lucas version of Grievous (Filoni Wars) which is unfair for Grievous. That why the comic book portrayed him better, as I said before I wouldn't be surprised if we see more Badass Grievous in the future.
BTW you don't have to agree with me

With the Prequels the designs of the spaceships made sense, they're the prototypes or previous models of the ships we saw in the Original films. There were proto-Star Destroyers, proto-A-Wings, proto X-Wings, proto-Imperial Shuttles, proto-AT-ATs, proto-AT-STs, it gave the films a feel that technology had streamlined and advanced in the past 20 years much like real world vehicles and military tech where an F-22 bears some resemblance to the F-35 but they are clearly different planes. Like you said the Sequel trilogy is making the OT ships bigger and badder with more crap on them and not reflecting the 30 year technological and engineering differences that would happen in real life.

From a marketing standpoint there's an actual reason to put your characters in different outfits. A SOL Moe anime can sell more figures or posters by having the characters dress in different outfits, same with Star Wars different outfits means different Action Figures to buy. Much like how School Uniform Yui and Death Devil Yui can sell merch, or Illya in different outfits can sell different figures, Rey in different outfits could have been used to sell more toys or dolls. Have Rebel fighter Rey in tacticool gear for the boys and Jedi Mistress Rey in a pretty dress for the girls. Hit all demographics in the toy department while giving the films a little more character.

At one point Grievous kicked the crap out of a psychic assassin and an immortal alien who could only be defeated by kicking him out the airlock into the gravitational pull of a star. The guy was clearly originally supposed to be more than what he wound up as.

This confirms that George didn’t make a good decision with selling to Disney. I hope he can finish up the book because I want to read it badly.

Was KOTOR 2 the only real good deconstruction of Star Wars that was respectful and good? I played through it a bit and really like Kreia and how she sort of was above light and dark side nonsense. Sorry for the derail I just thought of it and was hoping people had a similar experience. Sick of watching Star Wars and media in general burn.
Yes

KOTOR 2 and the Plagueis novel were the best deconstructions in the franchise imo. A testament to their effectiveness in that area is that people still talk about them to this day and even all the /v/s on every imageboard that haven't died out still have Kreia philosophy threads every month or so.

Darth Subversion.jpg

It was also handled in such a way that their subversions don't actually represent or devalue the setting, but serve as unique views for the characters that add more dimensions to their inner mental workings.

I think its safe to say that out of all of George's bad ideas, selling to Disney was undoubtedly his worst.

Depends on what his goal is.

If he wanted to become beloved again and have everyone appreciate the prequels, it was a genius move.
After the fiasco that he went through post RoTS it very well may have been something just like that. Sell a tiresome franchise for billions and just fuck off, forget the internet trolls and kick up your feet. I don't blame him.

Also laugh at the suckers who bought it when the mob goes after them next.

So I'm a bit late on this, but I've seen the 5th episode of Jedi Temple Challenge:

I guess Episode 4 was a one-off... at least for now. This was one of their good episodes, since while Mary has a couple of catty moments, she directs them at Ahmed, which makes it work better. The previous cattiness I think was based on how hard it was to make the kids actually fucking do the show.

The kids giving a shit really helps with this episode, because that apathy from the previous episode drained the show throughout the whole thing. The kids fucking tried, and it showed in this show. You will see near tears of frustration in this one.

The story is Nu Wars, but it actually is told pretty well IMO. It's an actual finished story and everything too, thus making it better.

Hell of a lot of close calls in this episode. I actually felt tension and was cheering and shit. Very good episode, and the only thing they need to do is change shit up again soon.

Definitely a step up from the last crappy one. However if their views don't improve, I don't see this lasting much longer. Also...

Figures they'd find some fucking way to shove that pirate in there... The story didn't seem particularly nu-wars though when compared to the last shitty episode which featured Filoni references throughout. I think this is the first mention of the old canon Technicians Guild in Disney shit too which was only referenced twice I think.
