Was this intentional?

To get a little personal I didn't recognize how I felt about my gender until I was well into high school and I didn't come out about it until my senior year. The main thing that really bothered me was that I was working in theater and had recently started jazz dance, and it was around this time I started to actually grow in height and muscle mass. I was really bothered by it and kinda felt disgusting mots of the time. I've had issues since then dealing with my body. A lot of the BS on tumblr is actually really offensive because it's similar to the "Homosexuals choose to be gay" stuff. It's basically saying you choose to be looked down on and oppressed (though it's not as bad as it used to be). It's like ADF saying he's transblack and is being discriminated against because of his race (though not exactly. It's not the best comparison but I think it's the closest one to be understood).

It was during college on my part, probably because I don't really think of myself all that much, certainly nothing helpful. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who would describe their feelings mainly as "disgust"

Some of the other guys made some good points but there's another thing worth mentioning. See, there are people who will gatekeep, such as parents especially, because they're just plain bigoted but those like medical professionals and truscum? You could say they're gatekeeping, yes, almost literally in the former's case but there's a huge difference in intentions.

Pop quiz, what do you think happens when someone who experiences no dysphoria goes ahead and changes their sex?
That's right, they get slapped with dysphoria. And while "detransition" exists, the original process is still largely irreversible. So it's important to make sure it's really necessary for that person's own good.

Harsh thing is, we soon won't know which ones would be deserving of sympathy (confused with gender roles, maybe just wanted to crossdress, wasn't entirely sure about themselves all along) or not (HAHA DIE TRUSCUM dysphoria is cissexism!)

And yes, there's many of these Tucutes that will outright call for the mass slaughter of "truscum". Pretty sure there's a tumblr called "violentantitruscum" or something solely dedicated to collecting these hideous wishes. They update very frequently.

Don't forget Mr. Slave

Mr. Slave isn't trans, he's homosexual, but still less of a faggot than Sophie.

What's really disgusting is that people like Sophia (the author of this shitshow) glom onto terms like "truscum," which are used to insult and demean people who insist that, in order to be transgender, you should probably experience some kind of body/gender dysphoria that makes you want to be another gender (because if you don't feel that discomfort and unhappiness, why change genders in the first place?). To give Sophia credit, she's genuinely transgender, but most of the people who hurl abuse and vitriol at "truscum" are bratty teenagers who are totally fine with their vaginas/penises and don't want to do any transitioning of any kind, but also demand to be referred to as "glitterself" or "foxself."

I imagine some transgendered people identify with these terms because they experienced gate keeping and don't want others to go through the same struggle. What they don't realize is there's a huge difference between only opening the gate for people who meet specific criteria and opening the gate for literally anyone. It's the same idea as being so open minded that "your brain falls out."

Many online communities, bronies and furries in particular, have poisoned themselves by being far too accepting of anyone who wants to join. Imagine if homosexuals acted the same way. Oh, you're metrosexual? Welcome aboard! Who are we to police your identity? Oh, you feel marginalized for your attraction to young boys? We feel your pain! Join the movement! Oh, you're gay and you get a hard-on for catching and spreading AIDS? That's okay, we don't judge, join the party!

(Incidentally, this is probably why homosexuality is still more accepted than being transgendered.)

I absolutely hate to burst your bubble but literally all of those things are happening and the gay community is being expected to open up to all the other kinds of "queer" in the world. Like queerplatonic, where you have a very bestest friend (no homo). Or "demisexual", where you only wanna bang people you know well. I can practically feel the gay rights movement being thrown into reverse when I venture into the ballpit.

Or the attempt to make "gay" into an umbrella term for anybody who isn't strictly heterosexual... meaning I could theoretically be "gay" even though I'm a woman married to a man. Words don't have to mean stuff! Postmodernism!!~~~

There are also tons of straight girls calling themselves gay men because they're tomboys. I'm not even making this up.

I think the difference is the gay community already has established and largely beloved role models like Neil Patrick Harris, George Takei, Stephen Fry, and Tim Gunn. You also have outright heroes like Alan Turing. Off the top of my head I can't think of any prominent members of the transgendered community that I could admire or even like.

what kind of doctor would put an 11 year old on testosterone blockers?

There's actually a documentary about a trans girl who wouldn't wear 'boy' clothes, even from a young age, and felt totally at home dressing and living as a girl. As I recall, this child had a lot of psychological evaluations and it was deemed an appropriate treatment to delay puberty via injections to block testosterone production and give the child a little more time to decide if this is really the path she wants to take, presumably to avoid regrets later on. The parents don't really seem like SJWs either, this was 100% the kid's choice. Fascinating stuff... unlike this drivel.

People still use LiveJournal? Also...

Well anyway, now that I have found my own personal gender identity, I feel like I should just get on with my life. We can’t force anyone else to see us as we see ourselves unfortunately.
I am thinking maybe my gender identity “thing” is connected with female Asperger’s Syndrome which is completely different from male Asperger’s so don’t expect me to recite PI to 100 decimal places. I have read up about Asperger’s in women and so much seems to fit like a glove. Although nobody will believe that I have Asperger’s because I am so high-functioning. But look at the length of this rant about my gender!

Dee Palmer is pretty cool and did some great work with Jethro Tull. Rae Spoon is another great musician who just happens to be trans. Beyond that I'm really in the same boat for the most part, doesn't mean I'm unwilling to befriend anyone who is trans though.

I thought we, as a society, had finally moved past the Fake Bisexual craze.

... And onto the Fake Made-Up Sexuality craze, as we are experiencing it now.

How disappointing.
In my spare time I'm involved with a youth theatre group and the number of "bisexuals" is exponentially higher than the number of people who've slept with or dated a member of the same sex. All that's changed is that now we're also getting a lot of "asexuals" and "pansexuals."

This comic immediately reminded me of Calvin and Hobbes because of the vocabulary.

Without sperging about how awesome Calvin and Hobbes was, the major difference is that for all his eloquence, Calvin was often wrong.

Well, the author is taking sides and actively tries to portray the main character as "right"

What might save this comic, or at least make it bearable, would be if the main character was wrong occasionally. Or at least ran into obstacles. For instance, if when he visited the doctor he actually accepted that he's biologically male. Or if he stopped to think about some of the contradictions in his thought process (e.g. the fact that he insists on being treated as a girl but whines about gender as a concept). It would deepen the characters and open up more story possibilities than "person accidentally does something that is normal by the standards of modern society -> child chews them out about it -> shit punchline."

And yet the trans people who were praising it said it's primary benefit was in explaining trans concepts to adults. Notwithstanding the fact that 99.99% of preteens don't give serious thought to this shit.
B-but it doesn't explain trans concepts to adults. Demonising people for not instantly being on the same page as you with regards to a subject that's unfamiliar to most people is of no value whatsoever. Nor is spewing a bunch of bizarre terms that no one uses outside of university or Tumblr. If you want to explain trans concepts, just fucking explain them. Show people your point of view, appreciate theirs and keep things simple.

I'd list Wendy Carlos, who used to be Walter Carlos, as an example of an admirable trans person, but wtf? She sued the shit out of Momus for writing a song about her.

Carlos is most noted for electronic music such as that in A Clockwork Orange. Oh, and the score of The Shining.
