At some point earlyish, I noticed Marl wasn't really spending time with our dog, Apollo. I told him he had either better treat our dog kindly, or that he needed to be rehomed so that he actually got the attention he needed and deserved. Eevee also noted that they apparently didn't know Marl was training Apollo for sex acts till a few days ago. When Pengo clearly knew, BigFluff's logs have him outright saying that he was considering using the dog that way ect. So...yeah. Hard to know if Eevee was willfully being ignorant, or a bit dim.

Eevee oddly never questioned why Marl suddenly changed his tune and relaxed the rules on his relationship with Glip, Nor seemed to notice anything wrong with her when Marl did upset her, while I'm sure Glip did mask what she was feeling - I just don't buy that there wouldn't be patterns of behaviour that wouldn't of become certain tells. There are a lot of people who go "but it's a manifestation of trauma" about art like that and, hey, I get it; I did that shit way back in the day too because I didn't have a safe outlet to express what I was feeling at the time.

The thing is, though, that re-contextualizing and romanticizing trauma you've experienced in a "safe" manner through art or writing or any other creative, personal outlet often doesn't actually make it better; it just allows you to trick yourself into believing what you went through wasn't as bad as it actually was. In my case, it made me think that what had happened to me was not only acceptable but entirely justified, even though it absolutely wasn't.

I had to spend years in therapy after the fact working towards reconnecting with my actual, in-the-moment feelings with regards to what happened in order to properly conceptualize why I was still experiencing trauma symptoms while enjoying my "safe expression" hobby. It's basically brainwashing and gaslighting yourself into accepting and fetishizing what was done to you in order to cope; this can work as a short-term method for daily survival, but long-term it can be unbelievably damaging to your psyche and open yourself up for further abuse, and unlearning that shit is incredibly difficult to do when it's coming from yourself.

There are a lot of kids who express their emotions and experiences through art and writing and other creative hobbies, and I don't really blame them for that at all; most of them are going through school or have a shitty homelife or both and don't have the resources or ability to deal with personal trauma on top of trying to graduate or start work, and if art or fiction or whatever helps them get through it at the time then it is what it is. But when these kids grow into adults who start escalating outside of their "therapy hobbies" and start dedicating time, effort, and money into enacting their traumas for sexual satisfaction instead of getting help or therapy, that's when you get fucking sex offenders and people like Glip and Eevee who are willing to rugsweep if it means maintaining their delusion that, as long as they can express themselves in art or fic or whatever, they aren't capable of hurting anyone.
