Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Jeezus, this is some fucked-up, repugnant shit

You can argue all day about Ethan's book, or Malin's--& I'm not a fan of either--but they can at least draw at a professional level.

Jon of the Rice is literally laughing in his paypigs' faces by publishing this garbage. This is Wart the Wizard /Vagrant Queen quality "art." Fucking shameless.

Is this SGM-related? I feel as though it might be SGM-related.

As a Canadian, she's likely more liberal anyway, so this might not have been directed by DC, but it does send out an unmistakable virtue signal to those who bitched about her being on Catwoman. Why else make an anonymous, CG-esque DM public?
What do you know, another "conservative" Comicsgate-adjacent creator peddling black lives matter and pro-faggotry propaganda. Strange how all these "conservatives" in CG virtue signal just as much as the SJWs they claim to be against.

Really gets that noggin joggin.
I've been following this very interesting eBay auction for the past 7 days and it just ended. Looks like the entire first Cyberfrog IGG package INCLUDING a headsketch. Reserve bid started at $110 with a Buy It Now price of $176... The headsketch alone cost more than the reserve.

Zero bids. Not a good sign.

It was just relisted for another 7 days. Opening bid lowered by $1.
Excellent find! To my knowledge this is the first headsketch of any campaign going to ebay and I've been eagerly awaiting to see how they'd perform. Most of the big name books do appreciate, so far standard $25 versions of Bigfoot Bill and Earthworm Jim hold the record by selling as high as $200-$300 respectively.
I take no pleasure in this as I'm currently holding a few of both headsketches myself for speculation purposes.
I take no pleasure in it either, I have headsketch versions of Bloodhoney, Lonestar, Graveyard Shift, Earthworm Jim, Bigfoot Bill, Black and White Remastered, The Berserkonaut and Red Rooster (if it ever arrives). I was speculating on those doing well, but judging from this example it might have been better to have just backed the $25 signed tiers instead.
Frog's CG is a cult of personality no different than Tom Cruise or John Travolta. Just look at the difference between EVS's campaign and the rest of those boot lickers.

Out side of Yah Boi, the next big named "CG" guy is Malin but he's 20th on the list. So :achievement: to Doug pointing out that Frog is a "short cut" to fame.

If I was Doug T (Wormie) *uno reverse card* Frog's point by pointing out the whole Stealing Solo debacle being on Frog's head because HE said the Jeff's art was Joe Quesada level and HE supported Mitch's Red Rooster for the longest of times despite Mitch back stabbing backers. He promoted both those train wrecks and I've got my  ready when Cecil's book fails to deliver due to Cuck Prince Delay's fingers falling off from Diabetes.

As much as I would like Nasser and Doug T to NOT interact with Frog. The indie pond is the only thing that protects creators against twitter mobs and that Whisper Campaign thing that has popped up.
Some interesting data, it appears that the cap for talented CG pro's like Malin, Breitweiser, Miller, Ritter and Fraga seems to be between the $160K-$190K range, with the average falling in around the $170K mark. Zack's books are depreciating with every campaign, which is a troubling sign, I doubt he'll ever reach the high of his original Lost Souls campaign again. The Expendables should have outperformed Lost Souls in my opinion at least bringing in BloodHoney to Earthworm Jim kind of numbers since it's an established IP.

Sean Gordon Murphy, Doug T and the guy who did Icarus and the Sun prove that you don't need Comicsgate to succeed. All it takes is some level of talent and a dedicated loyal audience who are genuinely interested in your product.

Shots fired @TheCosmicWarrior, your rebuttal?

Are those final sales to end customers or the sales forced on comic shops by the publishers which then sat on their shelves unsold to end customers? There's a very big difference.

If it was the bestest year ever why did so many comics shops go broke?

Who needs comic shops when there's a Scholastic book fair?

Let’s take a look at the Top 20 best-selling items on the 2019 chart; it looks like this:

I've seen way worse. This is leagues better than modern Marvel, especially their Star Wars garbage where it's traced from lego sets.

Based Dog Man saving the comic book industry.

it reminds of 80’s marvel art only with all the cool sucked out of it.

It definitely should remind you of 80s marvel. That's not only the aesthetics I go for, but the artists I like to work with. The 90s is what destroyed comics on every measurable level, so unlike the failed-CG "pros", I don't long for those glory days, but my style brings it back to when comics were actually good.

If you knew who the artist was you'd be gushing but because it's my project you have to shit on it cuz them's the rules here. Artist has to remain anonymous for their safety cuz @FROG will harass anyone who works with me.

Have you considered doing braille comics? Your fans are legally blind anyway.

You seem to be tolerated here and don’t get as much flack as EVS. I agree with you about protecting your people. Just next time spend some money on an artist whose style appeals to more people. There’s a reason why 90’s style art has made something of a comeback while the 80’s aesthetic has remained a novelty. I know you don’t care about money, but better art means more people will want to read your books.

I’m not trying to come at you like an asshole in this particular post, even though I am one. I am coming to you as a customer offering you feedback.

I'll hire who appeals to me artistically. Thank you for the concern though.

With Dynamite Thor, it was a pleasure to work with my favorite living artist (since obviously I can't get Ditko) Ron Frenz for the cover.

He's never listed in "top artists" but he's better than anyone from the 90s forward. My rule of thumb is if someone started working in the mainstream comics industry after 1985 they're likely just part of the problem.

But then again, folk would probably tell me to hire someone with "more appeal" than Ditko too if it were possible for me to work with him. After all, his crowdfunds only make $2-5K. Which is why I have my other rule of thumb: I don't listen to random internet comments at all as most people have no idea what they're talking about.

I do art for me. If I were interested in being commercial I'd be posting Black Lives Matter all over everything and #PrideMonth like Blake Northcott. But I won't sell my soul for a few bucks.

so in your mind, this

I can see why your campaigns perform the way they do.

also, don’t think I don’t know about you bugging Ethan on twitter to let you in his group so you can get a bigger piece of the pie And bitching at him til he blocked you. Cuz you know, you only do it for the art, right?

Yesk it is. Dark oversaturated colors in Batman there are difficult to even make out images and boring to look at and it's a guy just standing there whining and gritting his teeth and doing nothing vs. a guy with dynamic action and bright colors. Thank you for illustrating the point perfectly. Batman there is EXACTLY why comics suck since the 90s. And it's exactly why books lost the audience and sell in the 10s of thousands instead of millions. It's terrible and not fun at all.

but... isn’t Batman supposed to be dark and over saturated? I mean that’s been his thing since he was created in the 40’s. Also, comics started declining when they became less about heroes and more about spreading left wing political messages. I mean that is why Comicsgate became a thing, right?
And to take the examples further to the point, and out of my work to why I'm fighting against this absurd comic industry:

if that were true, you wouldn’t have tried To capitalize off of Ethan’s success by stealing E.J. Morgues‘s character and creating a knock off comic in the form of Robotoad. And Preston is who you chose to make the hero in your book? That aged real well, didn’t it?

Doh!
Carl Barks is infinitely better than 99% of the artists that came after him and his stories still hold up to this day.
EVS will be a curiosity for future pop culture scholars.

Hey, future fine arts student who is doing their dissertation or late 10's artistic movement of comicsgate and is reading this thread to make heads or tails out of it, please quote this post

Comics started declining in the 90's when the speculator boom went bust. The 90's esthetic in comics made them virtually unreadable. Artists were all flash with terrible story telling. No one cared because covers and splash pages were the new selling point for comics and story was no longer a priority. Crossovers and events destroyed narrative story telling and shit like the Clone Saga became the norm.

Kids stopped reading comics in the 90's and I don't blame them. They were expensive, good comics were hard to find and were almost never cape comics. Nothing worked. Comics made a brief revival in the 2000's before editorial decided constant event crossovers were the way to go.

JDA is a loser but he's right about that Batman page. It's an entire page of Batman standing around doing nothing. In the 80's artists had to much story to tell with action to spend a whole page with the hero posing and filling the panels with exposition. That's lazy writing and weak uninspired storytelling from the artist. Literally nothing happens on that entire page that couldn't be summed up in a text box or be covered while engaging the reader with the art advancing the story as well.

It's pretty though.

JDA's page isn't great but at least something happens on it.
