If your research is his mother's maiden name being Italian that doesn't mean half, it just means her father's side has some Italian in it. Phil's own claim is one-quarter Italian and I can't imagine him rounding down something that's such a big part of his identity.



The only other time I am aware of is the 'tism sauce. He makes a huge deal out of using canned tomatoes imported from Italy (the brand is San Marzano, many US grocers carry them) and insists the recipe is an authentic Eyetalian one passed down through his family. None of his other cooking is Italian or even East Coast Italian-American based.
