You know a Biden victory would not be the end of America. If you look at Obama he was blocked in Congress for most stuff. He did get Obamacare through, but only in a watered-down way. He clearly wanted single-payer but what he got was a mess that worked within the existing system and the only real change was the individual mandate, aka a fine from the IRS if you don't buy insurance. That fine ended up being more than the cost of insurance because Obamacare got rid of the cheap plans and was nuked once the GOP regained the White House. And you've got DACA which was an executive order because he couldn't pass it through Congress. However, what can be done with 'a pen and a phone' can be undone the same way. He got gay marriage but only in a really devious way - he got elected saying he opposed it but got a case through the Supreme Court making it a previously unknown constitutional right.

And Trump has been blocked with most big picture stuff too - there's no wall for example. The only thing he got through was tax cuts before he lost Congress.

Now I despise the Democrats more than is healthy and if I had a vote I'd vote straight GOP. It's better to have someone at the top trying to do things that you want, even if they get stymied by the system than have someone try to do things you think are a bad idea because some things will get through. It's also a bad idea to get convinced that the outcome of the election is certain - most US elections are decided a tiny percentage of the population and you never know if your vote will be part of that. And there are definitely long term consequences for US elections in that they affect the US Supreme Court which has degraded into almost pure partisanship for contentious cases.

The most dangerous things the Democrats want to do - amnestying illegals to gerrymander themselves a majority probably won't get through in one term and if the pendulum swings back they'll get reversed. Same with gun control. The most they managed was the assault weapons ban which expired. I'm not sure if it is possible for them to stack the Supreme Court, though it would admittedly be disastrous if they did - you'd see existing rights they dislike being reinterpreted away and novel rights being invented.

Basically the US system is designed to protect the status quo and given the Democrats are running on a platform to overturn it this will work against them. Unfortunately, it also means that any attempt someone like Trump makes to radically change the status quo will also most likely fail. I think as US politics becomes more polarized the system will react to stop radical change, as it is designed to do. What will probably happen is that it will move into the postmodernist politics phase where both sides promise radical change secure in the knowledge that even if they are elected it will be blocked or diluted. The alternative - where both parties realize that cooperation and bipartisanship could deliver radical change, seems further off than ever.

I'm not saying you shouldn't vote or care - far from it. What I am saying is that it's not particularly healthy to think that the next election could result in an outcome that destroys the country. This is what all those fucking idiots who were wailing in the street after Trump's victory thought, and you don't want to end up like them.

Really, I think the online discussion and sensationalist media coverage of the riots has probably devolved into a mix between a meaningless media circle jerk at this point.

A lot of TV and radio outlets aside from the CNN/MSNBC/Fox News 24-hour cycle channels are starting to focus more on the COVID-19 fears since we're seeing a second spike and the riots and BLM shit is fizzling out overall, with Seattle and Portland being the only real areas of consistent Antifa/BLM activity getting any coverage.

There was that flareup in Detroit recently, but honestly everything's falling apart and slowing down and the corporate bigwigs are flocking back to the pandemic as the main news story

Are Italians white? Are the Irish white? Are Greeks white?
