The thing I have noticed about the GOP is that after the elections, the losers lose all their value. There is no loyalty. It's almost as if most GOP candidates who lose, lose largely because they are such blatantly unprincipled hacks that nobody wants anything to do with them if they can't even win an election. Romney and McCain both ran campaigns with policy platforms that were nebulous at best. McCain blatantly aped Obama's platform of change, and the voters were not impressed. Romney could not maintain a consistent position for five minutes straight. He also couldn't explain how he was going to pay for tax cuts. Neither came across as consistent enough in their beliefs to actually fight for change. Obama, by contrast, had a clear policy and goal in mind. Half the country was rightly apprehensive of said policies, but the half that wasn't happily turned up to vote for him.
