Man, I really don't want Vic to get sick. He's part of the at risk group and I don't want anything to happen to him. We don't need 2020 to get even worse, if you know what I mean.

He's 57 years old. His chance of catching it and it going wild on his system is at about 5% I believe. He's also healthy as a horse and takes care of himself. He's also a faithful man, and that adds a bit to a body fighting anything that comes in.

Many Trump supporters online seem to think covid is a conspiracy and it's the Democrats trying to stir up panic.

We live in polarized times, we cant simply have people do the right thing without forcing them. One side wants to force others and usually overreach in their attempt at controlling and the others are literally kids going "Ill do the opposite because nobody tells me what to do!"

I know it is hard to trust new sources nowadays, but reading both sides of the mask argument and watching how cases unfolded leads me to believe that masks do help. There are a lot of people that will think it's not real until it directly affects them. A lot of people will change their tune if they get it or someone close to them does. Unlike the flu, this thing has killed more Americans than the flu does in a year, and we are only halfway through. Also unlike the flu, there isn't much in the way of treatments and there is no vaccine for it yet. People shouldn't panic over it, but people should take precautions and take it seriously. I've seen enough to come to my own conclusions that masks and social distancing do prevent the spread.

I think the fight against masks is idiotic. It would be like if people started protesting against seatbelt laws. Those laws exist for safety reasons. Unlike seatbelt laws, masks are only temporary. But the longer people fight against wearing them, the longer these mandates have to be put in place. It's stupid. It is also utter foolishness to promote social distancing yet allow thousands to gather in protest. I certainly believe that the protests added to the case numbers we are starting to see blow up. It's not the sole reason, but definitely a part of it. People just need to be smart and avoid crowds and wear a mask out of courtesy for now. We all live on the same planet, we should all be looking out for each other.

In regards to Vic, this virus is a bit of a wild card to me. You can never be certain if someone is going to be okay or not. Health and age is a factor, but it still has taken younger and healthier folks too. So, I can't say with 100% certainty that if someone catches it, they'll be fine. It just seems like something I'd want Vic to avoid getting altogether. Those who have survived have suffered for many days... weeks... sometimes months. Lots of days in the hospital. It just sounds awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Vic should be cautious and stay safe.

And other countries like the Netherlands almost did nothing and the cases still went down. The science can't agree on anything when it comes to the virus. No matter how much they like to pretend to, the scientific community does not know as much about the virus as they would like. And judging by other posters here it seems like it isn't the only group of people who think they are smarter than they are.

If Vic is healthy, the mask can't help him. Masks are for sick people to not spread the virus, that's how masks mainly work. And I've seen him liberally using things like hand sanitizer before all of this, so he seems to have a basic grasp on how to preserve himself when meeting large numbers of people.

Turning this into a trump supporter thing is fucking gay.

When you get "medical" advice that's taking "political ideology" into account, it's hard to view it as impartial science. I don't think COVID-19 is a "hoax" but I do think people are overly paranoid about it. I wear a mask when I go out, because I'm not bothered by it and if it puts others at ease, then fine. But with increased testing, altho the case count is rising, the mortality rate (deaths as a percentage of cases) is going down. COVID is a medical issue that we should confront, but I don't think it's a good idea to totally nuke our society for an entirely indefinite period of time to do it.

Seriously this virus shit ain't anything to shake a stick at. I know it's easy to feel otherwise especially if it hasn't personally effected you or someone you know. Obviously don't start living life in a bubble but be safe about the things you do.

There's a lot of information and research coming in since it's new, and a lot of doctors are obviously going to be opinionated in favor of personal politics. We live in the age of science and facts being offensive so it's no surprise that we are once again getting mixed information in addition to media sensationalism about this virus.

I know it's optimistic to think y'all will listen to a random kiwi. I've got nothing to gain or lose by saying what I gotta say in the end but it ain't hard to actually sit down and find what doctors who are working the front lines are actually saying and not some media spin on it.

It's why I'm concerned about most people getting it. Vic is healthy but I've seen plenty of healthy people get absolutely thrashed by this virus. I've also seen people who had little to no real struggle after getting a positive test and from what I've been able to find in research is they thought they found a link to how severe a case can be based on blood types but that became obsolete.

Anyway ramblings aside I just hope nobody is actively avoiding protecting themselves from it spreading in favor of gambling with chance or "conspiracy" or whatever.

Actually here. There's been hospitals that have lied about deaths to get more money.

Basically their have been deaths that were unrelated to Covid. That the Hospitals lied saying it was, so they could get more money out of it.
