Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Remember that the 'Spanish' flu epidemic got it's name from the fact that the news and reports of the flu were suppressed and censored by the countries currently engaged in WW1, and only the neutral Spanish newspapers reported on it.

With that flu, they didn't need media fear mongering to convince people, because it was actually deadly enough that people personally knew many others who died from it, and it was even deadly enough to completely wipe out some remote Alaskan native towns.

Fuck the news, you don't need to convince people when it's a real epidemic because everyone around you will start dropping like flies.

People in the US don't know what a dictatorship looks like, and this is a bipartisan problem (like the people who thought Obama was a Marxist dictator who ANY DAY NOW would put Christians/Tea Party members in Walmarts converted into FEMA death camps). Their idea of a dictator (when it isn't the current president) is like a cartoon version Hitler or Stalin or some Latin American/African general with a bunch of medals on his chest. They don't actually know how those dictators ruled or what it's like to live in a country under their rule. They don't know that pretty much every dictatorship from Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union to North Korea had or has elections and often a constitution granting their citizens rights and privileges.

One of the easiest and most common ways for dictatorships and authoritarian regimes to emerge is declarations of martial law needed to respond to threats. Often at first the threat is said to be temporary, "don't worry citizen, we're taking away your liberty because there's communists/enemies of the working class/whoever who will do even worse if we don't do this." But then goalposts get shifted, "yeah, we've been throwing a lot of communists in jail lately, but the remaining ones are getting really desperate and dangerous, things have never been worse!" Eventually this ends with mass executions, death camps, and a knock on your door from the police saying "you're under arrest, we know you're a communist" and next thing you know you're being tortured for hours to spit out the names of every communist you know before you get a helicopter ride.

COVID-1984 is pretty much the perfect disease to use as a pretext to destroy civil liberties and conduct widespread societal engineering and experimentation. It's just dangerous enough that it produces a noticeable amount of death and hospitalizations (and is by all means pretty shitty to catch), it's novel enough that people don't know what it is ("coronavirus/COVID, sounds scary") but relateable in that it's compared to SARS (by all means a worse disease), it spreads well enough with the asymptomatic shit that the media can instill fear in people that they might have it and kill their family, but not dangerous enough that it would kill or incapacitate too many people and genuinely become a truly dangerous plague.
if we really lived in a dictatorship Florida would be under total lock down, riots would've been stopped on day 1 and chaz and chop wouldve never been a thing. All we are is one mutation gone wrong away from absolute calamity. besides the fear mongering I've seen first hand that coivd19 can and will fuck you up if your health is bad enough. Some who go under and hooked on an a respirator have came back retarded. All you need to do to stop this is not gather in huge groups wash your fucking hands wear a mask and not coof on others. Also if your in a humid hot area store your masks in your car, heat kills any corona virus and your car gets hot.

Found this on another board. Makes a lot of sense. Might be worth sharing.

In 4 months, the U.S. transformed into an obedient socialist country. Government dictated what events are acceptable to attend.

Violent protests that instill fear are OK but church services, family funerals and patriotic celebrations are dangerous.

And you bought it without a fight.

Standing in a graduation line is a "safety hazard".

Small businesses were forced to close but crowds to support the corporate money machine at WalMart, Lowes and Home Depot are OK.

Come on. It's "just a mask" & "safety precautions".

How about a little hush money. Here's $2,400 that we stole out of your pay check in the first place. Enjoy.

Buy something with it.

From a big corporation.

Cash is dirty. We can't give change. There's a coin shortage. Use your card.

In 4 months, they convinced you to use a traceable card for everything.

In less than 4 months, government closed public schools then "restructured" education under the guise of "public safety".

In less than 4 months, our government demonstrated how easily people assimilate to "guidelines" that have NO scientific premise whatsoever when you are fearful.

In less than 4 months, our government successfully instilled fear in a majority of the population in America that allows them to control every aspect of your life.

Including what you eat, where you go, who you see and your toilet paper.

And the most dangerous and terrifying part?

People are not afraid of the government who removed their freedom.

They're afraid of their neighbors, family and friends.

And they hate those who won't comply.

It's absolutely terrifying to me that so many people don't question "authority".

They are willing to surrender their critical thinking skills and independence.

They just… gave up without thinking. Without a fight.

Do you know what's coming next?

"It's just a vaccine. Come on. It's for the greater good".

Wait until you're told that you can't enter any store or business without proof of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Wait until you can't go to public events or get on a plane without proof of receiving the vaccine.

To everyone that doesn't believe this is possible - DO YOU UNDERSTAND that government successfully dictated to people WHEN they were allowed to be outside, where they were allowed to go, and how their children would be educated in less than 4 months?

And that a majority of the population followed blindly because they were told to do so.

You're kidding yourself if you think this behavior won't be repeated with a vaccine. Or whatever the next step is.

"I don't like to think about it."

6 million Jews were exterminated in Germany because 97% of the population cowered to populist control.

Nobody wanted to think about it.

It's easier to just ignore it.

But that couldn't happen here, right?

They got you. Without a thought.

Without a fight
I'll always be convinced that we're a spoiled rotten country who don't know any 'real' issues. At least for the people who buy into this narrative.

I guess we'll see at the polls if people learned anything from this, but I have my doubts.

I do have a story to tell about how I am affected by Virus. No, nobody I know has died--what is happening right now, death would be a mercy.

My uncle has been suffering from neurological issues for decades. Eleven brain tumors, two strokes and now Parkinson's. He suffered a fall which broke some of his facial bones. Prior to this, he was blind in one eye, but now he is totally blind.

In these days of VirusRegime, ironically the last place you want to be is a hospital. Because it was a legit emergency my aunt had him rushed to the hospital. As far as I can tell, he wasn't magically coded as "a COVID" but because of Virus, he's had no visitors. I had great anxiety at the possibility that some misguided doctor, nurse or technician would euthanize him, but fortunately my aunt made it absolutely crystal clear that she would not consent to such a thing.

I must pause here because what separates Christians and non-religious is that the latter generally believe that there is no dignity in suffering while the former (especially Catholics) believe in redemptive suffering. "And [God] said unto me, 'My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Corinthians 12:9) If nothing else, by sticking up for her ailing husband, my aunt makes good on her commitment her marital vows until the very end.

Fortunately, my uncle was transferred out of the hospital into a rehab center but still, he gets no visitors. Because he's blind, and his wife is not by his side, and because the only thing he can sense is the screams of other elderly people also tormented by their isolation, he is stuck in his own little hell on earth. I pray for him constantly because I worry and there is little else I can do.
I'm sorry that your uncle is going through a hellish nightmare like that without you and your family visiting him for emotional support. Seriously fuck this lockdown restrictions. The government never considered the psychological effects from this bullshit.

REMINDER TO ALL MICHIGAN KIWIS
A petition is being circulated to repeal the 1945 Emergency Act that Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) is claiming gives her unlimited emergency authority. You can order copies to sign and circulate here.

After Governor Whitmer sent out an emergency alert to Michigan cellphones announcing her new legally-dubious mask-wearing order, Republican legislators are working on a bill to limit the sending of such alerts to "time-sensitive emergencies or natural disasters." The men in question are Sen. Peter Lucido, R-Shelby Township [in Metro Detroit], and Rep. Bradley Slagh, R-Zeeland [southwest coast of the Lower Peninsula].
Republicans have control of both houses of the Michigan legislature, but their majority is not veto-proof.
Senator Peter Lucido said:
[T]he governor has gone beyond the scope and intent of the law and is now somewhere over the rainbow and approaching Oz.

Famously conservative Hillsdale College is planning on holding an in-person graduation ceremony tomorrow, July 18, which Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) has called illegal. Masks and social distancing will be required.

[Edit for longer, more detailed article]

Rex Gomoll, 68, sentenced for wiping his nose on the shirt of a store clerk in Holly [near Detroit] who asked him to wear a mask. Along with a one year probation sentence, Gomoll will also have to attend “life adjustment” counseling and comply with all local and state mask-wearing policies.

Milwaukee requires masks now, inside all public places and outside if you're within 6 feet of another person. I walked to the corner sans mask, saw everyone in the store without one, didn't put one on. I took one with just in case the owners requested me to put one on, but I won't do it if I don't have to. I don't go anywhere but the corner store.

CVS, Target and Woodman's are requiring masks. Target is starting AUGUST 1. How long do they expect this to go on?

Oh and this weekend is the hottest so far. Humidity bringing the temps up to 100 degrees. So what happens? A "sewage spill" occurs and our most popular beach is now closed. Fuck this and fuck the politicians keeping this farce alive. It's all done on purpose, that's clear to me now.

Even the Meijers out here are jumping on the mask bandwagon. Pretty much cuts off any grocery places. Except for Cincinnati's local grocery store, Jungle Jim's. You still have to wear a mask, but he jumped on no bandwagons. If the counties he was in dropped off the red county list, he'd drop the requirement. Probably can get away with claiming asthma, if you want.

All doomer bullshit aside, what's actually happening in Florida? Are the hospitals really near capacity?

India appears to be catching the infection.
from what I can tell Jacksonville is on a hiring surge. nurse cnas doctors of all professions.

Weren't a lot of medical employees laid off in the initial lockdown due to elective surgery bans? I know a lot of smaller hospitals in rural areas really suffered because of those policies.

the hospital I work for in NYC did a mass hiring as soon as wu flu became a problem. small doctors offices don't deal with the worst of it and people on ventilators require round the clock supervision. nurses unions also require staffing quotas as reasonably a nurse can handle only 2 patients at a given time. smaller offices arent going to be hiring if wu flu continues to rage unchecked hospitals will if they are smart be hiring more than normal least they face ire from the nurses union. basically bigger hospitals will need warm bodies to monitor possibly a lot of people on ventilators and deal with a surge of patients.

They obviously never know how harder life is in other places, and continue this victim complex. Or they act like this guy:

If the science is settled and the masks are an absolute godsend to combating the virus, then why was the majority of the world told by the likes of Dr. Fauci and the WHO that the masks were unnecessary ... Until they suddenly were? Look it up: ALL of them are on record saying this stuff, as they were on record saying the virus itself was absolutely nothing to worry about as late as February. And back in April and May, Fauci was on record saying that the masks, while not really affective, make people feel better when they see others wear them. He essentially called them placebo when he was making his media rounds.

Fast-forward to now, and people aren't allowed to question these people even for a second after the government mandates to wear them or else? Come on.

In times where there is no pandemic, the masks serve as an effective way to prevent spreading bacterial infections, as bacteria has much larger particles than viral infections do. Viral particles are roughly about 1000x smaller than bacterial, thus making it insanely easier for viral particles to escape masks. So, if you're wearing the masks in a crowded store, I think it's not insane to assume that they're ineffective. The effective thing to do is to social distance, mask or not. In a crowded situation where you can't social distance, I don't think that the masks do much of anything. Especially when concerning the cloth/homemade masks ... As I said a few pages ago, I guarantee that people aren't washing those masks. Those actually have the potential to do more harm considering how the virus lingers on hard surfaces. You touch your dirty mask, and then you touch other things that other people will touch. Sounds harmful, actually.

But, you know, I'm just an "anti-masker." Hurr durr durr! Nuance doesn't exist, I'm just evil and a moron who wants people dead! Can't question anything!
I love the part where everyone magically now knows how small coronachan particles are, but always glosses over what size shit like the masks they're buying can actually prevent fromt entering.

I'm not sure how this article got published. Archived because of fucking course.

It's so disgusting how these ghouls seem anxious and excited for people to die. It can't just be seen as a positi that less people are dying from it, it's gotta be an issue and they start with the 'wAiT tWo WeeKs!!1' bullshit. It's just fucked up.

Today, Walmart corporate has announced that masks will be required to shop within their stores. This includes both Walmart and Sam's Club. This policy will go into effect beginning July 20th.

A Simple Step to Help Keep You Safe: Walmart and Sam’s Club Require Shoppers to Wear Face Coverings

View attachment 1449926

July 15, 2020
By Dacona Smith, Chief Operating Officer, Walmart U.S., and Lance de la Rosa, Chief Operating Officer, Sam’s Club

From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our focus and priority has been and continues to be on the health and safety of our associates, members and customers.

As the number of confirmed cases has spiked in communities across the country recently, so too have the number and types of face covering mandates being implemented. Currently about 65 percent of our more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is some form of government mandate on face coverings. To help bring consistency across stores and clubs, we will require all shoppers to wear a face covering starting Monday, July 20. This will give us time to inform customers and members of the changes, post signage and train associates on the new protocols.

While we’re certainly not the first business to require face coverings, we know this is a simple step everyone can take for their safety and the safety of others in our facilities. According to the CDC, face coverings help decrease the spread of COVID-19, and because the virus can be spread by people who don’t have symptoms and don’t know they are infected, it’s critically important for everyone to wear a face covering in public and social distance.

In addition to posting clear signage at the front of our stores, Walmart has created the role of Health Ambassador and will station them near the entrance to remind those without a mask of our new requirements. Our ambassadors will receive special training to help make the process as smooth as possible for customers. The ambassadors, identifiable by their black polo shirts, will work with customers who show up at a store without a face covering to try and find a solution. We are currently considering different solutions for customers when this requirement takes effect on July 20.

To help ensure consistency with this new process, all stores will have a single entrance.

At Sam’s Clubs, associates at the entrance will follow the same process with members, politely reminding them of our requirement to wear a face covering when shopping with us. Complimentary masks will be provided if the member doesn’t have one. Or members can purchase masks in the club.

We know it may not be possible for everyone to wear a face covering. Our associates will be trained on those exceptions to help reduce friction for the shopper and make the process as easy as possible for everyone.

As we have seen in states and municipalities with mask mandates, virtually everyone either brings a mask or readily complies with the requirement, and we anticipate that to happen in other areas as well.

We know some people have differing opinions on this topic. We also recognize the role we can play to help protect the health and well-being of the communities we serve by following the evolving guidance of health officials like the CDC. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our customers and members in wearing face coverings to protect their safety and the safety of our associates.

I wonder how people are going to take this news and if more incidents like this are going to occur.
