Waffleimages was supposed to be a distributed image host, stored on mirrors hosted by volunteers. Everything was coordinated by a single server which also had a website where you'd upload your image and get the url to put in your post. This worked great until the original Waffleimages guy took down his server and broke all of the embedded images. Some of the mirrors still stayed up for a while, and people figured out that you could edit the url to an existing mirror and get the image back. There's still at least one mirror up to this day.

This is going to be a total shit show Jeffrey is a spastic, the forum is on borrowed time since the fall of FYAD. The only thing which worked was lowtax's apathy at the wheel limited the amount of damage the shitty mods could do now. Just wait 3-4 months and we'll have resetera except infinatly more misrable.

Supposedly the one pill missing from his prescription refill was some painkiller but he'd been on phen and the really fucked up part of that drug is it apparently lasts for days.

It didn't even really kill FYAD either, they created their own forum where they continue to shitpost until this very day. One of the funnier things about SA is that a few of the off-sites will almost certainly outlast the actual forum.

There is actually few in the professional world and HR that knows what Something Awful is so LowT can just modify that as CEO or something of Something Awful and he's good to go to look for a job as a manager or something before they find out that he's awful at real work.

I remember it became a catch phrase cause some goon posted a story about how his brother wouldnt stop jacking it to the family computer in the living room and turning around and yelling "DA JOOSE IS LOSE" I figured that was the source of the phen being called da joose.

yep, CN. I had forgotten the name. I barely used SA in the end so it didn't really matter. I mostly looked at posts that other people had sent me which were particularly interesting or funny. I was a bit afraid of posting because I was aware of how easily people get banned.

It was a real boiling-the-frog-slowly kinda thing, but IIRC, GBS was already insufferable by 2008 with half the userbase spreading their cheeks for Obama, and by the 2010s I was just sticking to a handful of threads. The hard and fast rules about how trannies can do no wrong came after I left in the early '10s.

I used to read D%D united states politics thread back in 2007-2010 and just kinda flitered around the forums.

I dont like to say they self radicalized but they kinda did. Each months thread OP would have links to documentaries and stuff. I would like to say that there were pretty good sources. I remember one was a documentary called called slavery by another name "https://www.pbs.org/show/slavery-another-name/"

I also got exposed to a lecture give by elizabeth warren (remember this was during the housing bubble, occupy walstreet, etc.)

Now that I think about it this was just before identity politics took off.

But here is the amazing thing. They often mocked the right wing for being spazzes about obama, If obama did something they would post articles from sources decrying it and someone would be able to explain the reasons for the policey just like that big deal about saluting with a coffee cup.

THEN TRUMP happened and the mods have been having trump derangement syndrom ever since. and I still cant believe how after 8 years of laughting at the conservatives being insane about obama they jump on that mentallity harder then any other group.

I was pretty left wing until Bernie bent the knee to Clinton. After that I really had to take a hard look at my side and admit that I had tried to ignore the anti-1a sentiments (hate speech, no jokes etc), and that I honestly found Trump hilarious and refreshing.

Its a tired cliche, but the left left me. I suppose that for a lot of people, they just continued accepting and then internalizing the cognitive dissonance.

I also think a big part of it is that IdPol/cancel-culture relies heavily on your investment in your identity, so SA was essentially the soft-target to *chan's hard target. You already had a culture of deference and extreme enforcement of rules, the history of digging through people's posting history, and the :10bux: buy in.

I forget when it was but after GBS had been basically just reposted news stories for a few years, Lowtax came back, and made it so GBS had no rules except don't say Nigger or something like that. Then people had too much fun I guess, and the mods reversed everything and from then on just got shittier and shittier. This was in my opinion, the beginning of the end.

I mean, no rules GBS was a long way away from the funny years of SA, but it was at least about having fun, even if that fun was extremely stupid. Krusty meme was dumb, but the mods banning it was mad gay

That was a move in the right direction for Lowtax to do that, it was tough to post at all in GBS otherwise because you'd get in trouble if you didn't basically follow a strict formula to where every single thread became the same thing. So many people were white noise posters because it was practically the one and only way to post at all that guaranteed you wouldn't get in trouble. I ate so many probation after I quit giving a fuck and just started posting whatever I wanted - not even trying to break the rules or anything, just, not white noise posting anymore.

I know one of my longer probations was for "backseat moderating" for telling someone that something was a bad idea. What a fucking gay rule.
